“Xanadu - Quiet, Tranquil, Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

Xanadu is a very COZY resort. We've stayed in many hotels and resorts (large and small) throughout the Caribbean over the last 30 years. Xanadu is one of the nicest, coziest we've experienced. It's a short, fun walk or bike ride down the beach to the busier section of San Pedro. The staff are wonderful. There are several nice markets right next door, so it's easy to provision, and the kitchens and living rooms in all the rooms are very neat. (We visited several suites as we were there with a group.)

This was our second trip to Ambergris Cay, and we look forward to coming back soon!

I visited San Pedro just over a month ago to visit friends and family. We stayed at Xanadu Island Resort for a few nights just enough time to relax. We stayed in unit #19, which i think was a lovely cozy 2 bedroom unit, very comfortable beds, all appliances and luxury (ac, hot water, tv, internet, hammock). It does not have a view of the sea but of the mini jungle, it is nice if you like your privacy. The little bird walk through the trees was neat. The grounds were natural, clean and well groom. Not to forget the pool area was really nice, cool, beautiful and relaxing, there was enough shade and a slight breeze. I could sleep there all day long.

The front desk staff was really friendly and great, also very knowledgeable of the area. The location was just right, out of the town but close enough to walk, especially along the beach in the evening. I am sure to visit again soon and for a longer time. Enjoy......

Xanadu resort was fantastic. My wife and I were there for 6 nights on our honeymoon to Ambergris Caye. The staff was extremely friendly, they met all of our needs. Our loft apartment was always nice and clean when we returned from day trips. The resort itself is very well kept and it's a very safe place. There are a couple of different security guards stationed at and very close to Xanadu and they are very friendly and do a great job of keeping guests feeling comfortable.
The only "BAD" thing about Xanadu is the mosquitos, but those are nearly impossible to avoid in Central and South America, it's not really Xanadu's fault for the mosquitos. We never had any problems with any other insects in our apartment or anywhere else in San Pedro.
Xanadu is NOT an all inclusive resort, so make sure if you book with them you know that ahead of time. My wife and I loved that fact that it's not all inclusive. All inclusive resorts have a tendency of keeping you there at the resort and not really getting out as much to explore. We were able to eat anywhere we wanted, try the local cuisines, which by the way, are absolutely outstanding and just have the freedom to expolore and not have to worry about being back at the resort for lunch, dinner, etc......
I would highly advise staying at Xanadu Island Resort, it's close enough to the town of San Pedro yet far enough away that if you want to avoid all the golf cart and taxi traffic you can do just that. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent!

This was an amazing hotel. It was open and peaceful. We went spear fishing and brought the fish back and they cooked it right there for us. Was one of the best meals I had while I was there. I actually traveled there in 2009 but had to add this recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed in Ambergris for 3 nights in May at Xanadu. Check in was good and the room was very nice - loved the kitchen and the upstairs loft which made it seem more spacious. We did have some issues with the water heater and not having hot water for a day and half but staff was quick to respond and replaced it. Unfortunately, we encountered some rains so we did not use many of the ammenities (kayaks, pool) but we did book the snorkel tour through Xanadu which was AMAZING. They use Lil' Alphonse which was great because I had read he is one of the best to tour Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley. We also rented bicycles and rode around since golf carts were pricey and taxis were about $5 anywhere in San Pedro - bikes are FREE and good exercise.

We would visit again with family since this place is perfect for it and close enough to town without being too close!

Room Tip: We were in room 6 which overlooked the garden and partial ocean (2nd floor). It was great!

My husband and I stayed at Xanadu for 12 nights in early May. The staff were always super helpful - whether it was scheduling tours, looking for a restaurant, or just wanting to chat. Pool was awesome since the swimming isn't the greatest around most of Ambergris Caye due to the sea grass.

My husband and I traveled here in May. They upgraded us to a 2 bedroom suite - nice, large kitchen and porch area with hammock and tables. Had some loud kids upstairs, but nothing unmanageable. The staff was friendly and helpful. Rented a golf cart so we could go to the Palapa Bar (recommend that!) and to explore the island. Bikes only available until 5 pm, I think, so you have to walk or take a taxi/golf cart for meals. Hotel was right on the beach and hotel had its own dock. Perfect for the snorkel trip with Alphonse that the hotel arranged. Strong a/c was relief from hot, hot weather. Believe the owner's grandson was getting married at the resort the day we left, but wedding preparations did not get in the way of everyone's use of resort facilities.
