“Great Staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

If the weather would have cooperated it would have been the best experience. The rooms are Large with a kitchen, dining room and living room. The pool is very cool with a swim up bar. Its a little far from town but you can rent bikes and ride down the beach to another resort, bar or town. To be honest the town is nothing to write home about. The other resorts have great restaurants and Captain Morgans has a casino which is not far from Belizean Shores.
Do not use TuffENuff tours which is connected to the Hotel. The tours in Town are better. TuffENuff shut down all tours during a little bad weather. We used Searius tours in Town. these guys are amazing!! They took us out snorkeling despite the weather. Made us fresh salsa, played music on the boat, and had a fully stocked bar. Great guys and very attentive to their guest.
The Hotel Staff is Awesome at Belizean Shores! We became best friends with Denis and Levi!! Coolest guys ever and so helpful. The bartenders at the restaurant are very cool too!
You'll be happy with your location and accommodations.

We went back and forth between this resort and its sister property CocoBeach next door. We are very glad we chose Belizean Shores. For our budget, we were able to stay in a 2-bedroom oceanfront villa for much less than a resort or pool view villa at CocoBeach. (Technically the resort calls it a one bedroom upper level seaview, but it has a loft with a double bed and twin bed--Unit 1D.) And by oceanfront/seaview, we mean approx 50 feet from the water! This is important to us because every morning we enjoy sitting on our balcony reading, using the Wifi, having breakfast, and watching life pass by below us while our kids watch their morning cartoons.

We traveled with our two boys ages 9 and 10, and there was a lot for them to do there. They played basketball, swam in the pool, warmed up in the hot tub, played chess, jumped on the trampoline in the ocean, jumped off the diving board and slid down the slide on the pier. We also had a golf cart for getting around and that provided endless entertainment for our family. We rode into town every day and then ventured north of our resort to a recommended shack of a restaurant that we loved called Auroras.

It has been discouraged by some on this site that one shouldn't rent the golf carts during the rainy season because the roads are so bad. Well, we did and are happy that we did. We wanted to be on our own schedule and not the water taxi schedule. Our kids can be unpredictable so we don't like to go by a set schedule. Yes, as soon as you leave town and cross the bridge, the road is not paved. It is a bumpy dirt road full of huge water puddles you have to navigate. Our golf cart did very well with it and we never got stuck or experienced any problems. The ride takes a while since the resort is 3.5 miles north of town traveling on this challenging road, but for us it became part of our adventure in Belize. Allow approx 30 min to get to town. But there are restaurants and bars along the way. And our kids, who can be whiny like the best of them, never complained about the time spent on the carts. We rented from Cholo's in town and paid $205 for a 5 day rental, including drop off and pick up of the cart at our resort. They were a great company to rent from.

Though it is not technically the rainy season in Belize in December, it has been unusually wet and overcast. We spent 4 nights in the Cayo and 5 nights in Ambergris Caye, and it rained every day. Sometimes a drizzle but other times, a downpour. It never rained for an entire day, but on our last day, it was rainy or overcast the whole day which was a little disappointing. Nevertheless, we got on our golf cart and ventured to a couple of restaurant and bars that we wanted to try out before leaving (The Lazy Croc and Palapa Bar--both great and worth the visit!). We never let the rain stop us!

The staff at Belizean Shores was top notch, particularly the ladies who manage and oversee the resort. Always friendly and calling us by name, they were great at making us feel welcome and comfortable. Though it is the high season and the place was booked, the pool was usually pretty empty and there was never any trouble finding a great place to set up. Likewise at the beach. We are used to going to large all-inclusive resorts where you have to get up early and claim your chair. This is not at all the case. Most people are off on excursions or in town, so the resort never seemed full.

The pool was nice and clean; the swim up bar convenient with a friendly bar tender every day; the beach was cleaned and raked every morning; and our unit was spacious and well equipped, with a VERY comfortable mattress. My only complaints are the following:

The unit's living room wicker furniture is not the most comfortable to lounge around in. We spent time sitting around during those downpours and the furniture could be better. The shower controls in our bathroom were challenging. You couldn't get strong hot water pressure. You had to sacrifice pressure for hot water. We didn't appreciate the fact that guests could smoke on the property, especially at the pool. None of these issues were that important to us but want to mention them nonetheless.

We booked a couple of excursions with Tuff Enuff and were overall pleased with them. We did have a concern about the snorkeling being crowded so we asked when the best time would be to go with a smaller group, and were told the afternoon snorkel at 2 was better than the morning. That was not the case, there were 20 of us crammed into the small boat and then separated into two groups of 10. Even with that it was crowded and we all kept bumping into each other to try to keep up with our guide and listen to what he pointed out. The trip cost $155 for our family of four. Next time we would rather opt for the 4-hour boat charter for $253 and have them take only our family out to do a combination snorkel and fishing trip. We did that the following day and secured our own boat with a guide to go reef fishing. That was a great outing! We had his undivided attention and we caught 5 red snappers that he fileted for us and we cooked in our unit that night. The restaurant will also cook the fish for you for a small fee. All the tuff enuff guides we had were great: Candyman, Dixon, and Dave. However, the woman who manages their books/schedules on the pier should be encouraged to be friendlier and a more helpful staff member. She's the only person we encountered at the resort who didn't seem to appreciate her job and did anything beyond what she is expected to do.

Lastly, the restaurant at Belizean Shores was decent. The food was surprisingly good but not worth the high prices. We went on the first night and that was it. It really didn't tempt us to go back. We had much better and cheaper meals elsewhere: Elvi's Ktchen, Waragumas, Bella Italia, Auroras, and Lazy Croc to name a few.

In all, a wonderful stay in a wonderful small resort full of friendly staffers. We are hoping to go back next Christmas again and plan to stay there again.

We have been to Belize twice. Our first stay was at Coco Beach. Gorgeous property but twice the price as Belizean Shores. I traveled with myself and my (4) teens+
We booked a (9) day stay over the holidays. Perfect accommodations for our family, the staff is definitely there to assist your every whim and are absolutely lovely. We travel the world and only return to a destination if it is stellar, this was for us. We had a ball.
**DO: Use Tuff E Nuff tours, awesome. Catamaran Tour over the top.
**DO NOT: Use Mata Grande Grocery, awful, overpriced, rude and (3) day delivery delay.
**DO: Use Village Grocery. Same day delivery, 20% less than Mata and 10x the selection.
This is a Big Helpful Tip *** Mata caused a lot of unnecessary grief to our stay. Our only hiccup in (9) days.
**Do: Dine at Capricorn Restaurant, delicious and great service.
Enjoy...

Being greeted on the dock with a rum punch by Marianne was just the beginning. (She, Levi and the rest of the staff are WONDERFUL) Room was super big, clean and the bed super comfy. Great kitchen with all needed to cook. The filtered rain water for drinking was awesome! Pool, hot tub, beach side, bike rentals. So much fun riding to town on the sand. I wouldn't bother with the restaurant (not very good) but there is some stuff along the shore and great stuff in town of many varieties. Get a breakfast burrito from the guy who sells them on the shore around 7:30 ish...so good, get two. We were totally happy with our stay here and would stay again.

We stayed for 9 days at Belizean Shores and loved the accommodations. The condo is very spacious and with your own kitchen you are able to eat in.. The pool is very nice. The on site restaurant was just OK. Tuff E Nuff dive shop is wonderful, very friendly and helpful staff. Boats have great access and must compliment the dive master, AC. He was awesome. The road to the resort is "horrible". But having said that you must challenge yourself to driving it with the golf cart. We loved exploring both north and south. It was rainy when we were there and the roads were more like rivers but it was still worth the trip. Met lots of locals and always had extra riders on the golf cart. The resort is very clean and we enjoyed walking the beaches. Don't expect "perfect" white beaches as there is lots of sea grass. This place can have lots of people but does not seem crowded.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the ground floor and were able to hang our dive gear over the railings.

My friend and I have been here two weeks and what luxury! This is a beautiful resort and kept up immaculately with raked beaches, maids which sweep your rooms, do dishes, and supply excellent morning coffee for guests to make in rooms. It is a sister resort to four other properties on the north shore and guests may use those restaurants and amenities. The Belizean shores has a nice lending library with good books and DVD's, a "swim-around" pool to the water bar, a luxurious hot spa well which we used several times a day, and lots of shade and sun lounging chairs. I noticed and talked to many honeymooning couples who seem to use this spot but there are folks here of all ages, and it is a bit quieter than the sister Coco Beach Resort next door.

We walked to other hotels and resorts nearby to sample a variety of cuisines such as Captain Morgan's, "O's", and The Rendeviex, a French-Thai restaurant. The only thing we did not like at our resort is that one had to walk three flights up to the Restaurant! Beautiful views but those stairs!

The staff could not be more gracious, greeting you when you arrive at the dock with an exotic rum drink and escort to your room. Lovely people.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor if you are older or disabled, but all of rooms are beautiful, modern, lots of l...

I just spent 12 days there and thought it was a really first class operation. The grounds are pretty, the units attractive and kept spotless. Pool and great hot hot tub. I am taking the time to write mostly because of the outstanding and delightful services provided by the staff. Every single interaction with all staff members was simply perfect: they were instantly responsive, always available and happy and cheerful. In hundreds of hotels I never saw a group better trained and motivated to provide such outstanding services. I can't imagine that anyone staying there wouldn't come away with a smile to have been treated so well in such a pretty place.
