“Great Hotel - All the comforts of home”

Mayan Princess Hotel

We booked a dive package from The Mayan Princess from their website (great deal and diving with Amigos Del Mar that are about 100 feet away from the Hotel). This is THE way to go if you are planning on diving Ambergris.

Our room was very comfortable and clean (we even had The Movie Chanel, HBO I think, and news from Denver CO). AC worked fine (but was a little loud). I slept fine on the bed (which is unusual for me when I travel).

We got a room on the third floor. The view was great but might be a problem if you have trouble with stairs.

Very highly recommended and I look forward to staying there next year!

My husband and I stayed at the Mayan Princess from November 3-10, 2007. We enjoyed everything about it!

As others have posted, the hotel is in the middle of town. It's within walking distance to several restaurants: Reef Restaurant, Lily's, Elvi's, Jambel's, Fido's, etc. It's also close to the Island Ferry if you choose to go north or south of the island. Additionally, Amigos del Mar Dive Shop, is almost in front of the hotel so that's very convenient if you are diving with them.

The hotel has three floors. We stayed in room #18, which was on the third floor. The hotel does not have elevators but the staff brought our bags up to our room. Our room had a king size bed (which was a bit hard but was tolerable), a kitchenette, a sitting area with a hide-a-bed, TV, two chairs and a coffee table, a small bathroom (tub/shower/toilet) with the vanity outside the bathroom and a very niced sized balcony.

The kitchenette had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, two-burner stove and glasses/plates/silverware for four people, one pot and two fry pans. Definitely enough to make breakfast every morning (which we did after purchasing food from "Super Buy", which is about two blocks away.)

The refrigerator was a decent size for a weeks stay. It had a small freezer where we were able to put a small bag of ice in and also were able to put the ice trays in. In the rest of the fridge, we were able to almost fit a case of Beliken's and liter bottles of Crystal water (both purchased from the distributor at the south end) along with a dozen eggs, some ham, bacon and cheese.

The balcony, with it's french doors, had a plastic table with four plastic chairs. It also had hooks that you could hang a hammock on (get the hammock from the front desk.) We used the hooks to hang our dive gear on. (We noticed a lot of dragonflies in the morning from the balcony flying around but they didn't bother us.)

The shower worked fine and we always had enough hot water and water pressure to do what we needed to do. The only complaint we had was we never got fresh towels. We probably could've asked for them but we always found other things to do than worry about fresh towels.

The A/C worked great and sometimes, we even turned if off at night and let the doors open to catch the breeze. However, at times, Fido's was a bit loud or the next door neighbor's dog was barking and we'd just close the doors.

The beach in front of the hotel has some older lounge chairs. You can get pads to put on the chairs at the front desk. However, most of the time, we noticed locals using the chairs so really, there wasn't anywhere to sit. This didn't bother us too much since we spent most of our time diving. Other than that, the beach is somewhat clean. As far as swimming goes, there's some weedy areas but as long as you avoid those, you should be okay. We also noticed three sting rays in the area.

The hotel offers continental breakfast with breads that you can bring up to your room to make toast, zuchinni bread, carrot muffins, ground coffee (to make in your room), orange juice, bananas, oranges and apples.

They also have one PC with free internet access from 7 am to 9 pm daily.

There is no hotel bar but you can either buy/bring your own or just take a quick walk into town or on the beach and you'll be having a cold Beliken in no time.

Overall, we would definitely stay here again. It's location, cleanliness and staff's friendliness was perfect!

“The perfect hotel in San Pedro”

Mayan Princess Hotel

We have stayed at the Mayan Princes for many years. It is our favorite vacation spot. The hotel is right in the center of San Pedro so everything is within walking distance. The rooms are clean and comfortable and all of the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. The best dive shop on the Island is right in front of the hotel so diving, snorkeling or just a boat ride is easy to arrange. The main water taxi service is also close by. The best restaurants are just minutes away. What more can one ask for in a small personable place to stay for a great vacation on the Caribbean.

My two adult kids and I went to Belize to enjoy some great diving. We were not disappointed and our stay at the Mayan Princess was excellent. The location couldn't be better for diving and dining options. We stayed on the third floor in a corner room--we'll ask for it again when we return.

Stayed here for the second time, same room and absolutely loved it! The location is perfect. Stay on the top floor for the view... although there are no elevators, so if stairs are a problem, you should stay on the bottom floor. The rooms are very clean, kitchens are equipped with service for 4-6 persons. The bed was NOT comfy at all, very hard, but clean. They were a little stingy with the towels, but when I asked they were happy to accommodate. The AC works perfect, at least in room 18! The staff was very helpful. I felt perfectly safe (as a woman) staying there mainly by myself as my son and his friends were out at the clubs till all hours. San Pedro is awesome. The reef is unbelievable! Must eat at Curumba's.... fish burger to die for!!! Everything is within walking distance, including bank, laundry, had to walk a while for milk for my coffee, but it's a wonderful place to wander. The people on the island are truly one of the nicest on this planet. I will be back next year. Someone have a rum punch for me!!
