We has booked two nights in this hotel on the internet, planning to stay in the first week of Feb 08. Arriving on the boat, I immediately spotted the hotel as its right next to the boat dock on the beach. I was surprised to see , right next to the hotel, a large construction site where the neighbouring bar is being redeveloped. It was Sunday, but work was in progress, with a deafening drill being employed. There were two rooms, right on the beach, next to the construction site. "i bet one of those is ours", I (half!) joked to my partner. We approached reception and my fears were confirmed--one of those rooms was ours. I said we were unwilling to stay next to a building site and would like to move. (The hotel is quite large and I'm sure rooms at the other side would be unaffected.)Also I complained that no mention of the construction site had been made when I booked the room two months before. The receptionist said the construction hadnt begun then but we were later told it had been like this for some time. We were told that it wasnt possible to move as the hotel was full. The room wasnt ready anyway so we used this as an excuse to look elsewhere.
We found another hotel further up the beach and checked in there. Upon returning to the Holiday Hotel and asking for a refund (my credit card had aleady been charged) we were told that we COULD now move rooms. Why this option wasnt offered originally I don't know and we'd now paid at the other hotel. We had to ask for the manager and she agreed to a refund less 10%, so we lost about $25, which I accepted.
The hotel looked quite nice, and a good location, though I didnt see in the rooms. I would advise anyone booking in the first half of 2008 to make reference to the construction site and get assurances that they will be sitiuated in an area of the hotel away from that.
