This was our first stop on our honeymoon and we loved it! This place is exactly how it appears on the pictures! The buildings are in great condition, the rooms are clean, nicely furnished and spacious. The staff is very friendly and accomodating, and the customer service in booking our reservation was great as well.

When you arrive, you get a cell-phone with 10 minutes pre-paid on it, and a bag to lock valuables in that can be placed in their safe. They will happily arrange any trips for you. They offer free airport transfers, and also have a free shuttle into/out of town every night (really saves on cab fare as it is $20rt to town). It is a bit outside of town, but we enjoyed it because it was private and quiet.

They don't have a restaurant there (they do have a good bar), but it is a ten-minute walk on the beach to Victoria House, and 5 minute walk on the beach to Fido's (great new place!). The water there is decent for swimming (just have to pass a patch of seaweed), and their pool is nice as well. The only thing I think could improve is the addition of a restaurant. I think they may be starting one, though, because we saw some signs going up advertising it.

We had stayed Caribe Island several times since 2001. We were quite disappointed in the change since our last visit in July of 2005. The restaurant on the pier is sorely missed and requires that you leave the resort for all meals unless you want to eat the same bar food day after day. The bar is not the same without Albert. He was indeed the "magic" there.
The little nicities that the former management supplied such as teak lounges and decent towels were gone.
The current manager changed our reservation to accomodate a guest who would be paying more (we are a relative of an owner). We needed a three bedroom unit (we were traveling with our 16 year old daughter and her boyfriend) which we were to move into on our 3rd night. But when the time to move came we were informed that we were NEVER supposed to move. Our reservation was made by our owner relative who had confirmed our move more than once. Being in a predicament we were helperd out by a former manager who still manages a few units. She placed us in a 3 bedrm unit she managed. Instead of being grateful for the help, and the potential of maintaining a guest, the management began to cause us nothing but trouble--she called the "tourist police" and E-mailed the owner to make sure it was OK. Our staying there had already been cleared by the owner. She then called us into her office and told us we would have to vacate the unit by that evening. This was untrue and unnecessary. This would have never happened in the past. The rest of the staff is pleasant and we had no problems with them. The management also seems to be charging a premium for anything they arrange such as golf cart rentals or tours. It is much cheaper to arrrange them on your own.
We are going to Belize this week and are staying at Banyan Bay. We are looking forward to being able to stay at the resort for breakfast as well as having ample lounge chairs to accomadate the number of guests. We do miss the old atmosphere at Caribe but will not be returning there until they work out thei issues.

We spent a week at Caribe Island Resort and can't wait to go back. The staff are exceptionally polite and cordial. The office staff made booking tours a breeze. We were very pleased with the tours we arranged through CIC. The office staff were very friendly ,very helpful, very professional. The rooms are clean. The furniture and fixtures are all in very good condition. The maids even take their shoes off to avoid tracking any sand into a room they're cleaning. The ocean view is terrific. CIC is a quiet, family oriented resort; exactly what we were looking for. Great lap pool for swimming. Good snorkeling out front. Ocean swimming is good but you do have to get beyond the seagrass beds to get to hard pack sand bottom. Being able to borrow bikes for free was a plus. All-in-all we think Caribe Island is the best place we've stayed in San Pedro; the rates are reasonable for the quality of the rooms, service and ambience.

We chose the Caribe Island Condos after doing a lot of research about hotels on Ambergris Caye, and unless you're looking for something close to town with lots of action and nightlife within walking distance, this may very well be the best place to stay on the island. The condos are on the south end of the island where it is quieter, but any of the tour operators will pick you up right at the hotel's dock, and there's a free shuttle into town each evening for dinner and shopping. The entire staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and they can arrange all sorts of adventures on and off island for you. We had fun riding the free bicycles into town and exploring Ambergris Caye, and the trip to Lamanai was well worth it. The condos are roomy, clean, well-equipped, and the prices were very reasonable. Our vacation at Caribe Island Condos was very relaxing and simply couldn't have been better. I highly recommend the place.
