We just finished our honeymoon at Ramon's Village and have to say it has probably the best combination of ammenities and location in all of San Pedro. Yes, some hotels may be a little nicer for us Americans (Victoria House and Capricorn to mention a few) but those hotels are far from San Pedro (either water taxi, regular taxi or golf cart rental ($70 US per day)) and it is an effort to get into town.
Our package included breakfast which was really good (excellent breakfast burritos and loved the fresh papaya). Other than that, don't waste your time eating here. The food is very average and the prices are very expensive. I recommend you vist some of the places in town (details below).
Not the best prices in town ($4 US for a Belikin Beer and $9 for most blended drinks) but the quality was there. Our favorite by far was the Purple Parrot. It's basically a Pina Colada with Bailey's and boy is that combination dangerous. Also the bartender's are a really good group and every seems to have a great time.
Our rooms was very cool with 2 recliners on the balcony and a gorgeous view of the ocean (it was a mini-suite). I especially recommend a second floor as you have a huge vaulted ceiling with a view of the palapas way better than the lower room on the bottom floor. We had a seperate bathroom with a nice shower and good hot water. In fact, there was a water shortage on the island during our stay but Ramon's has it's own tank so we never ran out of water. The maids are very helpful and friendly and cleaned our rooms daily. Finally, if you plan on visiting make sure you request a refrigerator before you come to Belize as they try to charge $5 a day when you arrive.
Local Food Recommendations
WE highly recommend Elvi's (local carribean flavor) and Caramba's (Mexican/Carribean Flavor) for reasonably priced local food. The Reef (Seafood) is also pretty good as well as the Jambel Jerk pit (Jerked chicken and seafood). Don't miss the chicken drop on Wednesday night as it is something not to be missed. Where else can you bet on where a chicken is going to defacate? Answer is Louisianna as the Pier Lounge is the only place in all of Belize that is allowed to run the game.
For a special night out I highly recommend 2 favorite spots. Casa Picasso is a great place for Tapas and strong Martini's. Not in the best location but defintely worth the visit. Finally, take a romantic boat ride up to the Capricorn resort ($30 US for 2) and watch the sunset and the moon rise. Definitely not to be missed.
Finally, recommend you dive with Amigos Del Mar as they are a first class organization ask for their special drink on the way back, the panty ripper ;)
Don't miss out on Tikal it is by far the most amazing Mayan sight (better than Chichen Itza).
Either way Ramon's will be a great way to spend your vacation.
