“Great Island. Great Resort!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

My wife and I spent a week at Ramon's. It is extremely convenient to the airport, town and restaurants. The minute you enter the resort, the bustle of the town and main road melt away. The grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained. The beach is manicured every morning. Seagrass is prevalent off Ambergris Caye and washes up daily but these guys keep it in check. The rooms are nice. Nothing extravagant but it's a beach resort. How much time are you spending in the room? They are clean with comfortable beds, tiled showers and hardwood floors and cabinets. My wife dove three times. Due to inner ear issues, I stick with snorkeling. Both were fantastic and the team at Ramon's dive shop were great. The pool is gorgeous. The wait staff are great. Who cares if they say "Un-Belize-able" or You better Belize it"? They are proud of their country. We had the prepaid breakfast every morning which was great. No hassle.

Now, the only negatives... We ate one meal outside of breakfast and it was mediocre at best. Also, it's extremely overpriced. In reading the other reviews, it's time to change chefs. Feel free to hire me! JK. The food should match the other high marks, but it doesn't. Second, the bar just sucks. It's small, with no bar stools. Crap liquor with very little choice. A high class place should have some high class liquors. Absolut vodka as top shelf is not top shelf. No Patron or Don Julio Anejo Tequila? I understand the owners frown on alcohol and are religious, but you are providing a service. Not to mention, if you are going to sell liquor, sell the good stuff.

With that said, there are plenty of places to eat and drink outside the resort. It is what it is. The staff are great. The owners are friendly and approachable. Ramon himself is fantastic. We made many friends at the resort, including the twisted sisters, Captain Al, Mark, Charlotte, Justin, Stephanie... All and all, fantastic vacation. We will definitely go back and if they improve the food and bar, it's an easy 5 stars!

We stayed at the resort as a group of 6 for 10 days. The resort was convenient to San Pedro and the airport. We stayed in a room that looked at the beach - beautiful! Two of our group had requested two bed and when we arrived they had only one. The resort was able to accomadate the request after a short wait, but needed to have them move five days after we arrived. Unfortuately, the second room, though lovely, backed up to the street and the nearby bar. I was loud and there were even ear plugs provided in the room drawer. My only issues were lack of accessible electrical outlets and the lighting at the bathroom sink.
The grounds are well maintained, but the sand does get everywhere - you are on a beach! the beach is raked every morning and the sea grass is removed.

Since several of us were there to dive, we did have the breakfast. Nothing spectacular. I did bring my own coffee and filters ( I like flavored coffee). We did eat at the restaurant one night, but chose to eat in town the other nights since there were so many options. We did bring snacks and got rum at the local store and had our own happy hour before venturing out for the evening.

I do want to mention something about the dive operation. While we were there, we were on the dive boat that went to the Blue Hole and diver from another resort that joined us on the trip had some type of dive accident. I do not know what the final cause of the accident was, but the crew on the boat acted completely professional and helped all of us through a very difficult time. My special thanks to Earnest who checked on me during that day and the next.

Room Tip: Stay off the street side of the resort . The bar across the street can get loud.

This place is excellent in every way. The rooms are good size, well decorated and maintained. We stayed in 118 right on the beach with our own deck to sit and watch while we had coffee in the morning. The grounds including the beach which is very nice are groomed daily. There is a great pool, bar and restaurant with exceptional food. The service from the time they picked us up at the airport and delivered us back there was absolutely outstanding. Additionally we are also scuba divers and the canyons, reefs and marine life we saw were first rate. The dive shop which is on sight does an amazing job. The boats and rental equipment were very nice. The packages they put together for the different dive sights show their experience.

Room Tip: The extra for a beach front room is worth it

Well maintained...a little cheeky and commercial jungle like appeal....but excellent. Best beach area. Can swim off the docks. Extremely well maintained. All of the staff were very helpful. Steps from the beach. Huts are roomy and convenient. We stayed in 134 with our own porch and 1 hut from the beach with a nice seaview.

One block from "downtown" and the beach in itself is used as a "street" to eat and shop from day and night.

We opted for the breakfast included package and were very satisfied especially with the morning breeze wrapping us with our first meal. We didnt have lunch there and checked out more island places to nosh. Our one dinner at the hotel...was ok.

You are literally 1 shorty block from the Tropic Air/Maya Air landing strip...the plane sounds you barely if ever notice. But super convenient...and...the hotel will come get you and take you back.

Busy "town" lots of shopping and more golf carts than people...golf carts are the main means of transportation second to walking :) The hotel has the best of the golf carts to rent.

I encourage you to shop the local grocery store for your snacks and your liquor. You'll save more money to invest in other adventures.

Room Tip: Closer to the beach is always better. The paths are narrow...at night we felt safe in the resort.

The best thing about Ramon's is that the beach in front is nice and accessible. One misconception about these islands is that they all have wide open sandy beaches- not so. They are rocky and not easy for beach activities. Ramon's clears their beach of rocks and someone goes out daily to prune the seaweed that tries to grow, so its nice. The rooms aren't bad- very basic, really, but if you have an ocean view room it won't matter much, you'll be out on the beach all the time. Don't bother with their restaurant! its terrible, except breakfast is okay. The waiters will bombard you with things like- "Its unbelize-able!" and "You better Belize it!" which grows old, but you have to laugh and smile like its hilarious or they will be bummed out. We enjoyed watching storms rolling in at night- lots of lightening- which was especially dramatic from the end of the pier. Definitely go snorkeling! if it were not for snorkeling and the lightening and of course my travel companions!! (oh, and the alligators in the lagoons up the island a ways by golf cart), I would have regretted going to Ambergris Caye. Ramon's was the best there, by far, from what we could tell.

Room Tip: Get an ocean facing room!!!

Our stay was very relaxing. The room was perfect, the staff was friendly, and the beach was well maintained. They really do their best to make your stay as easy and enjoyable as possible. The resort restaurant is good, but there are plenty of other great places to eat on the island, so be sure to venture out!!

So my wife and I spent 4 days in the jungle and 4 days on the beach at Ramons. We were excited after reading all the reviews about the staff and how amazing it was. However, we didnt get any of this. The staff at the front desk was just ok. They seemed bummed whenever you had a request and it was a big deal for them to have to work. The resturant, Pinapples, was the worst. Everyone but the two younger waiters were rude and the service was terrible along with the food being well over priced and well below average on taste. I think it's important to note my wife and I are a younger couple in our mid 20's. We observed that the staff were much friendlier with older couples. The rooms were like a cheap motel except the roof was different. The bathroom was dark and the toilet barley flushed making that an adventure each time u used it. They say the water was purified however it tasted like crap and was dirty. The view from the beach view suite was amazing and they do have the best beach in San Pedro but it still wasnt anything to brag about. They do offer a lot of activities however, based on our overall experience we chose not to use them and use other companies instead. Overall, overpriced and lacked anything better than a typical motel. I recommend exploring all options before choosing Ramons.
