This was "boys only" trip.
My buddy and I took our sons (12 &14 y. o) there for a Thanksgiving weekend diving trip. Stayed at Ramon's for 5 days. We purchased the "fly, room, dive and breakfast" combo though my local travel agent - Lenka Travel. The price was right.
Ramon's Village is a very cozy, clean, no frills dive resort. We stayed at the "garden view" cabin. We all shared 1 cabin. 2 double beds for adults, 2 mattresses on the floor for the boys. It was a little tight, but just OK with us. We did not spend any time in the cabin during the day time, and it was fine for us to sleep there for a few night. There is a restaurant and a bar at the resort. Both are decent. All foods are prepared fresh, but are fairly simple, and the portions are moderate, so are the prices. We ate breakfasts there (included in our package). We dined there once. There are more interesting places to eat along that beach in San Pedro. (See Fido's Bar and Grill).
The bar has nothing fancy on the selves, but the local beer is $2.25 and it was OK by me.
The restaurant and the bar settings are actually very nice. The restaurant is set around the pool under the palapas. Right there, there is about a dozen of lounge chair facing the ocean. A nice place to chill with your after-dinner cigar. That's all the resort you get there. It is clean, quite, simple and very pleasant. All the staff is supper friendly and helpful.
The Ramon's dive shop is the best on the best on the island. Very well organized and managed. All equipment is well maintained. The boats are new, fast, and again, clean. The divemasters know local reefs well, and took us to some amazing diving spots just 5-15 min boat ride from the resort. The shop offers the trip to The Great Blue Hole too. For scheduling reasons we went to the Blue Hole with Amigos del Mar (also very good and competent).
The island and the town of San Pedro is very much safe for tourists. The local Tourism Police is keeping an eye on things. We felt very safe walking around town, and even hanging out at the town fair in the park, watching the local Martial Arts tournament. A few local "businessmen" offered us their "good", but once declined, they did not approach us again.
In summary: On the entire island of San Pedro there is nothing to do, but to dive, fish and relax on the beach. We had a great trip with our boys. The diving is awesome with very competent Ramon's Divers guides. Very relaxing and pleasant atmosphere at the resort with friendly staff.
Looking forward to do it again sometimes soon.
Heads up: the San Pedro airport strip is right behind all the hotel along the beach, including Ramon's. The first flight out is at 7am. Since those are small turbo props airplanes, they are not too loud, but you can definitely hear them on take-off.
