“Amazing Honeymoon!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We loved our unBELIZEable honeymoon in San Pedro! Mata Rocks is clean, in a convenient location to town (but still far enough away to get to relax!) and their staff is awesome! They made everything very easy for us! Very professional.
We loved that it is a small resort and we got to know the other guests there as well.
The only problem we had was we rarely had hot water in our shower... but we were hot anyway so it didn't really matter to us!

Room Tip: The suites were very roomy. You have a small kitchen and a nice balcony. I think they all overlook...

We had a great stay at this hotel! The staff was friendly and helpful, our room was perfect and the beach bar served great drinks. They will help you with anything they can. If you want to venture off the island they will arraign for you to be picked up right there on the hotel dock, safe and sound with no worries about anything. Free bicycles, and they also have golf carts for a small fee, which come in very handy there on the island. I highly recommend staying here!

Mata Rocks is the perfect no-stress vacation destination. The hotel picks up the tab to and from the water taxi or airport! Bonus. Free rum punch upon arrival. I can't say enough about the warm and caring staff here. Extremely clean rooms, fun bar and free bicycles. Only steps to the beach, pool and bar. Full on breeze from the ocean and fee wi-fi. I recommend you leave all your devices at home and just unplug. Staff will book any trip/adventure you would like and most trips pick you up from the Mata Rocks dock out front. Choose Mata Rocks. Perfect vacation location.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the balcony rooms with a larger kitchen. Sweet. Bring your own coffee and filters if you...

Great resort - pleasant, quiet, and the service is very personable and attentive. I booked originally for 4 days and then booked an additional day because I liked it so much. The resort is also across the street from Robin's Jerk Chicken - a local favorite and must-visit. Great value for the resort. Eusebio at the front desk is attentive and helps you book everything. I came to Belize with little to no agenda and had, through the hotel's assistance, booked several days of scuba diving, a visit to Caye Caulker, zip lining, and a trip to the Belize Zoo. A very full and satisfying vacation, thanks to the folks at this resort.

Stayed in smaller room downstairs. The room is perfect except when trying to sleep. The light is strong enough to read by at 1, 2, 3am...you get the point. Management was advised and offered nothing. Resort is great. Rooms on bottom floor=meh.

Chose this hotel because of recommendations from trip advisor and was not disappointed. The hotel is clean, quiet, comfortable, with accomodating staff. Everyone was so nice. They gave great recommendations for snorkel trips (George's sail boat) and lots of restaurants. The beds and pillow are very comfortable. We stayed in room 8. The Squirrels Nest Tiki bar has all you need to relax. Great drinks and friendly staff. People from other resorts stop by. The hotel is about a 25min brisk walk on the beach to town. Or take a cab or rent a golf cart. Breakfast is fresh fruit, juice, coffee and breads included in your room rate. Love this place and can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the second floors are bigger. Suites are lovely.

I was looking for everything BUT Marriott/Hyatt style luxury for this short trip to Belize. I wanted comfort, peace, laid back style and basic boutique type luxury....and boy did I win the lottery by choosing MATA ROCKS!.

Despite having problems with my room comfirmation, the staff was able to quickly sort things out and offered me to view three available rooms for the inconvinience. Though room 11 and 6 for nice, I was also offered to view S6, which I fell in love with. Both S6 and S3 (the latter upstairs) were basically small suites facing the ocean!. I paid the room upgrade and enjoyed a fantastic looking room with magnificent ocean views, really out of this world. outstanding!!

Staff at Mata Rocks smiles all the time and are 100% accomodating to their customers, all in a laid-back athmosphere. The palapa bar, which also serves as breakfast area, concierge, information, front desk, bar, lobby, all you can think of...... is manned most of the time. Breakfast was adeaquate and delicious but more so was the coffee.

Back in the room all was very clean, all was fresh and everything worked great: AC, bathroom, kitchen..etc. great balcony area with breath-taking views and piece. Towels were fresh and clean, so was the bed nice and comfortable. the local bath soap was outstanding so I purchased four bars for my family.

Access to the resort is very good though the property is not in the San Pedro city center. But you know what? that was exactly what I was looking for: peace, quiet, relaxation. You can rent a bike for free (need to be back by 5:30pm), you can rent a gas-golf cart, or you can take the taxi, which will average you $10 BZE.

The beach area in front of the resort is very nice as well: towels always available, palapas, hamacs, beer...yes delicious local beer. Grounds always raked; small and lovely pool area. Because of the resort's size and feel, all guests seem to act is if they were part of a big family; the place is such that is condusive to conversation.

You could see the staff maintaining and cleaning the property all day long. They were so proud to be working at Mata Rocks, you could feel they owned the place. There was a security officer on the premises all night long, which also adds to the good feeling of this resort.

I was lucky to experience a beautiful sunset on 1/20 and an even more gorgeous sunrise on 1/21 from my room's balcony. Clearly an everlasting experience.

Recommendations:
If you can, stay in room S6 or S3; still all rooms viewed are fantastic. Walk to El Divino for a good ceviche. Definitively take the SEArious snorkeling tour.

Pro's:
Boutique style resort that looks and feels like being in a family villa in Santorini, Greece. Do I need to say anything else??

Con's:
Nothing....for some people it may be the distance to town.

Room Tip: Small property with ocean views from at least one window. My favorites were S6 and S3
