“Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

I stayed at Mata Rocks at the end of the slow season/start of the busy season. I searched and searched not knowing anything about the town. It was for our honeymoon and they only had the balcony room available for part of our stay so we stayed poolside. They did not offer to upgrade at any point. The prior visitors took the keys with them so Mata Rocks had to go have another key made so we couldn't leave our room for about an hour. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. We had ants, but i don't think that is unusual. I was prepared with bug spray. The rooms was on the south end about a half an hour walk from town, in fact there is not much around the hotel, so plan on walking (with a flash light after dark) or biking, however the bikes have to be in by 5:30. The bikes were a nice perk from the hotel. You can also rent a golf cart about $65 for 24 hours. In the US we think of a resort as big with alot of amentities. The Mata reminded me of a Ramada Inn type hotel in the states. There are other hotels that are still out of the main stream but closer to town.

We usually don't have housekeeping services everyday so when we let them know we didn't want any they did it anyway once. They also totally opened the blinds so our room was wide open for everyone in the pool area to view inside our room. That was a little embarrassing. Lesson learned a) even if you don't want room service you might get it and b) don't leave your bra lying on the bed for the world to see.

We stayed 7 nights and the price was right. Wireless was spotty but worked 90% of the time, which was nice. The staff didn't seem overly friendly. If you asked for something you got it, but they didn't seem to say hello or good morning, but others on the island were alwasys pleasant.

This place is awesome. period. after spending four nights in western Belize, the next four nights were spent on San Pedro island at the Mata Rocks resort. We were upgraded to suite #2, which was gorgeous with an awesome balcony overlooking the ocean. The resort grounds were immaculate, it has a great palapa bar where it's nice to chat with the other visitors, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and they make things very easy for you once your there. you want to snorkel at shark ray alley? no problem, just walk down to the bar, let them know what time you want to go, and then a boat will come and pick you up right at their dock. you want to rent a golf cart, they'll have one delivered for you. you want food delivered, they've got all the local menus. it's on an quiet section of the island and you can walk either by beach or street into San Pedro. We walked around that island every day and every night, drinking belikins and taking in the local cuisine. Mata Rocks was an incredible home base, and I will stay there again when we make it back to Belize. definitely.

Room Tip: i had secured a balcony room, but man was I happy that we were upgraded to a suite. I think it woul...

Stayed 4 nights at Mata Rocks and it was a wonderful experience. Very nice rooms, most with an ocean view balcony. Far enough away from the heart of San Pedro to avoid the hustle and bustle but only a short golf cart or bike ride away. Nice clean beach and pool conveniently located next to the small beach bar where you can enjoy a Belikin or a tropical cocktail. Rooms kept nice and clean daily, staff is very friendly. Only thing is privacy can be a tiny bit of an issue as room balconys are very close together. Not much of an issue for us though. Activities can be arranged by the staff, golf carts can be rented by the hour or by the day. Overall a GREAT experience. Would recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in San Pedro.

My boyfriend and I just got home from a wonderful week at Mata Rocks and we wish we were still there!

Pros: Clean, wonderful and helpful staff, on the beach
Cons: I'm struggling to think of one...

The hotel is about a mile from San Pedro and this was perfect for us! We walked to and from town at least a few times a day (or you can take a free bike or rent a golf cart) and we loved getting the exercise! The staff helped arrange a few trips for us and gave us helpful advice. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to my family and friends.

Room Tip: Our room was on the ground floor right by the pool and not far from the bar. We were concerned that...

This is not a true resort, so if that's what you're looking for this is not the place. But this hotel is amazing. It's right on the beach with a nice (though small) pool. There are comfortable beach chairs and loune chairs as well as a nice dock to walk aling. There's a great bar area that attracts a lot of interesting and talkative people. The rooms are spacious and the suites have their own patios which is really nice, particularly for your morning coffee. There are bikes to use for free which are more than adequate means of transportation to and from the center of town. We really loved the place and highly recommend it.

Smaller resort located about 10-15 minutes away from the water taxi terminal. Rooms were nice and had beautiful views. They work with a number of tour operators as well so if you want to do any tours (i.e. snorkeling in Shark/Ray Alley, Diving at Blue Hole, etc), they will come via boat and pick you up right at the dock.

This resort has a nice little bar out back where you can have delicious drinks (the best dirty banana I've had since I was in Jamaica). They also have a few food items that you can order.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms have a good view so you can't go wrong.

We went to Belize, because we wanted to know the arrecife area and snorkel, the hotel its perfect if you dont want to pay too much, but you want something nice and clean, theres beautiful hotels but too expensive and cheaper are ugly. The room has everything: tv, kitchen, fridge (we bought different brands of beers to try), hot watter, and beatiful view. The shore of the beach of the hotel is not too clean, but it has a little and cute pool and you has a basic breakfast, but who wants to eat to much when you are going to swim all day!
We went all days tours, theres a different places and beatiful, so we spent all the time out and we arrive at afternoon. A recomendation, if you want to save some money take your snorkel equipment with you, so you dont have to pay the rental of these each day.
Note: Belize is not cheap, if you buy things at store it is too expensive food, drinks, camera, sunblock. But swim with sharks and manta rays, and watch the turtles, the big fishes, and the colorful little one, was the Best! I went in May and the weather was great and temperature of water delicious!!

Room Tip: The Second floor in front of the beach, if you loved the sounds of the ocean, this rooms has a litle...
