“I couldn't have asked for anything more...Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2010

My husband and I spent 2 weeks at the Matachica Beach Resort for our Honeymoon in December.
We couldn’t have asked for a better honeymoon. Everything was wonderful!

The staff were Amazing and extremely accommodating in addition to being very personable. They worked very hard to make sure we had a wonderful honeymoon and after spending 2 full weeks with them they felt like family! Thank you again to Myra, Abbey, Isadora, Ishmael, Ossie and the others that made our stay so amazing.

Matachica is home to a restaurant called Mambo. As part of the honeymoon package, we ate breakfast and dinner there daily and never got tired of it. The food is Amazing. Try the chocolate chip and banana pancakes for breakfast and you can’t go wrong with any of the selections on the dinner menu.

The Casitas/Villas are cute, clean, comfortable and spacious. We were upgraded to an beachfront villa for part of our stay both casitas were perfect.

You can do as many activities or as few activities as you would like. We loved having the option to simply lounge on the beach, read and relax or to take the kayaks out to snorkel at the reef or participate in a previously scheduled tour (Snorkeling at Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley and Mayan Ruins Tour). No matter what it was we needed, there was always a staff member there to help us figure it out.

Overall, we got exactly what we wanted and couldn’t have asked for more. We will definitely be back!

We have been here twice and love it and the people. Great food excellent chef who prepares our catch for our dinner, nice presentation! Fly fishing tour guide was excellent. Many newlyweds come here after the jungle tours, quiet private and beautiful setting! Fishing off the pier at night is very good, you never know what might hit: huge jacks, barracuda bring a heavy spinning rod and some hopkins spoons, then hang on these fish really fight. Ask for Manuel for fishing guide service,he is fantastic. The Staff at the Matachica is second to none, from the grounds and house keepers to the front desk you will not find a better staff willing to make your stay special.

The Matachica resort is an absolute gem on Ambergis Caye. Adorable, cosy casitas on the beach, a lovely communal dining area and bar, with adorable friendly staff who really made the trip. Simple luxury - no TV or telephones in the room, but a fully kitted out media room to use computers or watch a DVD, with WiFi access everywhere. The beach is stunning and you can do as little or as much as you want, with snorkels and masks, kayaks and sail boats all available for us. I have done diving in some beautiful locations, but this was the best snorkeling I have ever done (see Hol Chan marine reserve), and there are plenty of fun excursions they will arrange for you as requested. The food was great as well, with plenty of seafood and plenty of family friendly options as well for kids (pizzas or pasta). I would recommend this resort for large family groups as well as couple for a romantic getaway. Complete relaxation! We will be back.

Mata Chica is a very special place.
The rooms were up to date, cozy and very nice.
The bathrooms were very clean and served its purpose.
This is a more rustic/bohemian experience so if you are looking for modern chic...don't even bother.

The staff could not do more for us. We were always being asked if we were enjoying ourselves or needed anything. As well, you could tell all the staff enjoy working at Mata Chica.

The Beach loungers were amazing! I did not want to get up to eat or do anything.

The food was incredible. I am a very picky eater and there was always something on the menu for me. You have to keep in mind that the resort is more remote than other resorts and restaurants. Mambo restaurant does a very good job under their circumstances.

The owners were extremely kind and you can tell they put their heart and soul into this very special place.

Enjoy!

If you are looking for wild nightlife, long lines, places for the kids to play, and a tevelvision....Matachica is not for you. If you are looking for solitude, a beautiful ocean and reef at your front door, and jungle excursions a short flight away; it doesn't get any better than Matachica. The beachfront casitas were very comfortable, private, and cleaned very well every day and included fresh new flower arrangements.(sand is hard to get out of a room and they do it!) The food was fantastic. We stayed for 7 nights and ate all but three meals at the Mambo restaurant. The menu was extensive and well presented including many fish dishes as well plenty of dishes for those who do not care for fish. The staff were very attentive and very friendly and did everything they could to make your stay more enjoyable and stress free. You are missing out on a great experience if you do not take the time to get to know them!

We came to Matachica after spending a few days hiking on the mainland. We were so amazed at the mountain region of the country and all its beautiful waterfalls, ruins, plants, and animals that we thought we might be a little disappointed by San Pedro, which we knew would be more tourist-y.

Fortunately, we were wrong. We were totally blown away by Mata Chica. Not only is it incredibly beautiful, but the staff is spectacular and the food practically melts in your mouth. The front desk staff, the tour guides, the waitresses and waiters, the management, housekeeping, and absolutely everyone else who works there are extremely friendly people. They are constantly smiling and anticipating your needs.

Myra and Abby were especially friendly waitresses. Anita at the front desk was very helpful. By the time we left, we had spent so much time talking with Ishmael, the bartender, that it was like saying goodbye to an old friend. We even played pool one night with Alex and Alex who work in the kitchen. Overall, I think it would have been impossible to be treated any better than we were, and in such a warm and genuine manner.

As for our activities, snorkeling at Hol Chan marine preserve was fantastic and so was Shark Ray alley. I could have easily done both again while we were there. Mexico Rocks was also a fun trip. The food at the restaurant was fantastic. We actually regretted not choosing a more all inclusive option because the food in San Pedro is good, but not as good as the food at Mambo. My husband and I still talk about how good the chocolate souffle was.

San Pedro in general was a fun retreat for a trip or two, but we were honestly pretty happy about being on the secluded north end of the island.

We stayed in one of the Seabreeze casitas, and they were nice, but my one complaint is that mosquitos seemed to make their way into our room a lot and we had a good number of bug bites by the time we left. If you can, spring for one of the beachfront rooms. One of the other couples staying in a beachfront room told us that the breeze from the ocean seemed to keep the mosquitos away.

Our trip was pretty excellent overall, and I would do it all over again, even with the mosquitos. Thank you to all the staff at Matachica for a very special honeymoon. We hope to be back one day.

We spent our last summer vacation in Matachica. We stayed a bit over a week and would have stayed much longer. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were particularly delighted by the professionalism that emanates from the team, directed by Maître-D' Gricel. The staff was smiling, courteous, discreet and helpful.

We were long overdue for a much needed vacation and Matachica provided us with the peacefulness and serenity we were looking for. Matachica is a unique setting that combines a romantic ambiance, but yet is able to satisfy the most activity savvy traveler. You can either choose to spend a day on the beach, and enjoy the spectacular view, be nourished by the sea breeze and the calming sounds of the waves, or decide to go about the many activities that are offered. Matachica provides a wide array of activities, whether it be kayaking or sailing along the spectacular reef or snorkeling amongst the Belizean marine wildlife. If you enjoy fishing, you will well served by spending a few hours with "Chocolate", on his boat, catching barracudas, snappers or bonefish. We particularly enjoyed many of the expeditions offered by Matachica and were pleased to be accompanied by Matachica's experienced staff.

We also highly recommend that you do not leave Matachica without experiencing a complete body massage at the hands of magical Louisa, a professionnal therapist trained in indigenous and modern massage techniques.

Matachica serves delectable food, wondefully prepared by a skilled chef and served in magical Mambo restaurant, by especially friendly and warm staff.

Every detail at Matachica is well thought of. Everything, from the luxurious and soft linens, to the exotic and tasteful decor, to the music that accompanies you throughout the day, demonstrates a keen sense of know-how. Above all, Matachica possesses a beautiful and profound spirit that makes the place lively and wondeful to enjoy.

We loved our experience and consider Matachica our destination of choice for vacation.
