My husband and I always make the best of a vacation, but for the first time I was really depressed about how much money we spent on this place! I rarely give a bad review, but I really don't want other vacationers to go through what we did. They definitely spruce up the resort in the pictures. This place is far from paradise!
The Resort: We stayed in the rooms that were located at the back of the resort. We had a lagoon view, which basically meant a mosquito infested swamp view. The building next to us was run down with caution tape around it. It made us feel like we were in the ghetto! There was a huge dumpster that was located right in the path where we had to walk everyday and the smell was horrible. The beach was just okay. There was a ton of seaweed that was impossible to avoid. The resort wasn't very crowded so it was nice to always be able to have a chair. The pool was nice, but the swim up bar was never operating when we were there. From the looks of it, it hasn't been operating for years. The whole place shuts down too early! Everything was done by 9pm. Another thing to keep in mind: The resort was located on the North end of Ambergris Caye, which is 4.5 miles away from where any action is. Taking a water taxi cost $7.00/pp one way, which was way too much money. Walking took over an hour, riding a bike was damn near impossible on a horrible dirt road, and renting a golf cart was expensive. We opted to rent a golf cart in town for $240.00 because the resort was over priced.
The Room: SO DISSAPOINTING! Where shall I begin?? The room was old and not very well maintained. We had a problem with Red Ants and Black Ants in the shower. We also had lizards that came in through a crack where the wall met the ceiling. The showers had no water pressure and we did not have hot water for 2 days. It took three complaints before anything was done and it still didn’t fix the problem. A quarter of the balcony had a huge pool of water on it that came from the dripping air conditioner. The main window in the room did not have any type of shade, which meant that the sun lit the room completely every morning at 6:00 am. Every time we would pull the string to turn the fan/light on and off, it would electrocute us……no joke!
Our rooms were not cleaned until almost 2:00pm in the afternoon. There are no phones in the room, which really cuts you off from the rest of the world. The inconvenience of not being able to call the front desk when something was wrong was really a hassle.
The Service: The overall service was just okay. We can name about 3 people that were actually helpful, but the rest of the employees were indifferent. The main bar closed at 10pm, but if the bartender thought it was slow he had no problem closing at 9:30pm even if people were sitting there with drinks.
The Food & Drink: Mediocre at best. Breakfast & Lunch were okay, but dinner wasn't up to par considering the prices that were charged. We opted to travel into town to enjoy some authentic Belizean cuisine most nights. They ran out drinks! No beer or water starting around noon until much later than evening! NO WATER! How can a place run out of water?!! This happened twice while we were there.
The Excursions: The tours offered at the resort were actually jacked up by almost $100.00 compared to what it would have been to go through the tour company. We went into town to book all the tours.
Overall: Not good. There was nothing luxurious about this resort and I would save your money!
