My husband and I always make the best of a vacation, but for the first time I was really depressed about how much money we spent on this place! I rarely give a bad review, but I really don't want other vacationers to go through what we did. They definitely spruce up the resort in the pictures. This place is far from paradise!

The Resort: We stayed in the rooms that were located at the back of the resort. We had a lagoon view, which basically meant a mosquito infested swamp view. The building next to us was run down with caution tape around it. It made us feel like we were in the ghetto! There was a huge dumpster that was located right in the path where we had to walk everyday and the smell was horrible. The beach was just okay. There was a ton of seaweed that was impossible to avoid. The resort wasn't very crowded so it was nice to always be able to have a chair. The pool was nice, but the swim up bar was never operating when we were there. From the looks of it, it hasn't been operating for years. The whole place shuts down too early! Everything was done by 9pm. Another thing to keep in mind: The resort was located on the North end of Ambergris Caye, which is 4.5 miles away from where any action is. Taking a water taxi cost $7.00/pp one way, which was way too much money. Walking took over an hour, riding a bike was damn near impossible on a horrible dirt road, and renting a golf cart was expensive. We opted to rent a golf cart in town for $240.00 because the resort was over priced.

The Room: SO DISSAPOINTING! Where shall I begin?? The room was old and not very well maintained. We had a problem with Red Ants and Black Ants in the shower. We also had lizards that came in through a crack where the wall met the ceiling. The showers had no water pressure and we did not have hot water for 2 days. It took three complaints before anything was done and it still didn’t fix the problem. A quarter of the balcony had a huge pool of water on it that came from the dripping air conditioner. The main window in the room did not have any type of shade, which meant that the sun lit the room completely every morning at 6:00 am. Every time we would pull the string to turn the fan/light on and off, it would electrocute us……no joke!
Our rooms were not cleaned until almost 2:00pm in the afternoon. There are no phones in the room, which really cuts you off from the rest of the world. The inconvenience of not being able to call the front desk when something was wrong was really a hassle.

The Service: The overall service was just okay. We can name about 3 people that were actually helpful, but the rest of the employees were indifferent. The main bar closed at 10pm, but if the bartender thought it was slow he had no problem closing at 9:30pm even if people were sitting there with drinks.

The Food & Drink: Mediocre at best. Breakfast & Lunch were okay, but dinner wasn't up to par considering the prices that were charged. We opted to travel into town to enjoy some authentic Belizean cuisine most nights. They ran out drinks! No beer or water starting around noon until much later than evening! NO WATER! How can a place run out of water?!! This happened twice while we were there.

The Excursions: The tours offered at the resort were actually jacked up by almost $100.00 compared to what it would have been to go through the tour company. We went into town to book all the tours.

Overall: Not good. There was nothing luxurious about this resort and I would save your money!

what an amazing disappoint. The website makes it look like the place is nice, but when you get there, the reality is disheartening. The place is very old and not well cared for, no amenities, no luxuries, no class! Big yellow caution tape around one building that looked liked a cheap motel.
The staff was superb, they did the best they could under some very trying circumstances. However, they were very upset , and worked slowly because of some problems with management not paying them fairly. According to a couple of staff this has been and on going problem. They ran out of some basic liquors, again some staff confided to us, that was because the resort was not paying their bills on-time, and couln't get additional credit. The rooms, the food, and the drinks were very overpriced for what you get. Needless to say we would never, I repeat never go back, and we suggest you stay away!

“Way below our expectations”

Where shall I begin with this review? The resort itself was far below our expectations. It was a terribly long journey to Journey’s End. We were greeted by the staff that generally all seemed to have ulterior motive sand I was very reluctant to let our luggage leave our sites. They showed us our room and my impression of this place fell to an all time low. The room was rundown at best; it looked as if the room had sat there untouched for six months. The floor tiling was cracked and missing pieces, there were dead bugs on the bed netting, room refrigerator with folded paper as a leg, hideous wicker furniture, and a tissue box that looked like it hadn’t been replaced in two years. The bathroom was just as bad with cob webs in the ceiling corners, old fixtures, broken shower drain that was sunk in the floor. The only good thing that I can say about the room was the bed and chairs appeared to be new. So I can tell you were not happy right off the bat. Outside of our room the resort was below our expectations, the grounds were decent they could have been better maintained. They had a garbage dump right behind these ocean cabanas that smelled and I would of hated to be staying in one of those with the stench. We stayed in the back “hotel” lodge which was in the back of the resort by the lagoon. There are two buildings back there and one of them appeared to be non-operational as door were busted of the rooms and banisters not on the stairwells. The ocean front was not that great. There is seagrass everywhere in the water, but that appears to be how most of the beachfront is in Belize. The ocean front bar was actually nice, it was always open when we needed and the service was good. The restaurant Luna, was slightly below average. What killed us most was how slow service was at the place. I have no idea what the staff did inside the restaurant but the service took at least 15-20 minutes to get a drink to your table, and it’s not like it was busy or understaffed, no clue what they did that took them so long. That’s just the drinks; the rest of dinner was incredibly slow!! I can’t stress that enough how slow everything was. The food was alright, not as much seafood entrees as we would of expected being in the Caribbean. Some of the wait staff was rude however I don’t want to include about two staff member who were always nice and cheerful. We ate some dinners and all breakfast meals there. We had vouchers for those meals but some dinners and all lunches we went elsewhere. The restaurant Rendevous next door was very good. The general service of the resort though was lousy especially the front desk and who appeared to be the manager of Luna was obnoxious. I had a few problems in which I had to go to the front desk and seemed as if you were such a hassle for even asking them a question. For instance, our room did not have any window covering on it, and I politely asked them for a blind of some sort, and I ended up having to put a sheet on the window that they gave us.

I could go on forever about our experience there. It was not a glorious trip. The resort was sub par, having no phones or communications with the outside especially after the office closes at 9:00pm you feel somewhat unsafe at night especially if there is an emergency. The closest resort is Rendevous right next door, and the next resort about a half mile down the beach. The resort again was nothing glamorous, most of the pictures you see are not the true Journey’s End, but rather airbrushed photos from the most perfect days there. I would definitely not recommend this place for anybody because it is not worth the money they charge. If you are looking for beaches to relax on you’ll find better groomed beaches in New Jersey that are hundred times better than any beach in Belize. I was flabbergasted by the non groomed trash filled ocean front as we walked up the coast in Belize. Don’t waste your time here, trust me on it. You don’t want to be us as we were looking for flights back home on our third day there. By the way the photos we uploaded are listed under the name “turbo747”.

“Enjoyed the peace and tranquility and terrific help”

Journey's End Resort

Feb 15, 2008

We just returned from our second trip to Belize. We enjoyed Journey's End so much that we stayed a second time. They have a peaceful pool area to enjoy and lots of oceanfront beach with chairs and hammocks. Everyone is very accomodating to your needs, if you only ask.
They take care of your rooms and keep everything clean.

We had a warm welcome from our long trip with a refreshing drink AND a plate of fruit!

And if we stayed much longer we would really have become attached to some people that we see so regularly...and who always had a smile and nice conversation for us.

Beautiful setting, you could see the sun rise over the ocean and set over the lagoon that was behind our back porch.

This resort was great in every way. When we got off our plane in San Pedro we had to wait a whole 3 minutes for our taxi to arrive. Then we were taken to the shore where a boat and our wonderful Captain, Andy, was waiting for us. The short ride to the resort he gave us a brief idea of whats what as we passed it. When we got to Journey's End Resort, Bill was on the dock to greet us. They took our bags and didn't see them again until we got to our room. We had a quick complimentary cocktail at the bar and he gave us a quick tour of the property.

EVERYONE was kind and very helpful. If there was something you needed, you just asked for it and you got it. There was no one that would tell you what you could or could not do (within reason, of course). We stayed in the Garden Cabanas and it was perfect. There was a slight issue with the toilet in our room, but it was taken care of. What do you really expect? You are on an island!

The restaurant, LUNA, was absolutely amazing. One of the best we had on the island. Although it is not cheap, it is worth it! Lunch was probably the least favorite there. But breakfast was also really good! I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone and would definitely stay there again!

Although this resort is a few miles from town, if you are looking to get away from the busy aspect of the town and do a little more relaxing, this is the place for you. You can always take the ferry or bike into town.
