We just returned from Captain Morgan's. I am so glad we didn't let the negative reviews deter us. If you are expecting the Hilton, then stay at a Hilton. This resort was absolutely perfect for the type of vacation we look forward to. Directly on the beach, 1/2 mile to the reef, two pools, attentive and friendly staff, clean rooms, good food.
Our unit had a kitchen and the resort had a store, so we ate our breakfast in the room and had snacks and beverages available also. We ate a couple of times at the resort restaurant. The food was good and the staff attentive. We also ate at a couple of restaurants within walking distance to Captain Morgan's (bring a strong flash light and you are fine walking at night along the beach). We did eat in San Pedro one night and made one trip into town to check out the shops. That was enough for us. The town is much to busy for our tastes.
Ana and Felix were so helpful in explaining the trips that were available and their input helped us to choose what was best for us. We snorkled twice, Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley and the best...Tranquility Bay! My husband loves to fish and the options are endless, beach, pier, flats, reef and deep sea. He was in heaven.
We were not at all pressured to buy. Lorraine extended an invitation to attend a preview of the new units and to take a tour, at our convenience. She was always available to help us with everything throughout the week and we enjoyed the time we spent talking with her. We did schedule a tour with her and ended up buying a timeshare unit. Everyone on the sales staff was courteous and professional. From our perspective there was no hard pressed sales pitch. The new units and their set up is great. Buying a 2 bedroom allows us a myriad of options to use, rent, or exchange.
We are planning on going back in June and hopefully again in January or February of 2008. I would recommend Captain Morgan's to anyone who wants a quiet location, a laid back experience and the option of nightlife via the water taxi into town.
