“Grand Caribe is sheer paradise - you won't want to leave!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2011

As I looked at the photos of Grand Caribe on its website before we booked our trip, the bright blue of the sky, the inviting swimming pools and the appealing architecture of the buildings and rooms all seemed too good to be true. But after staying at Grand Caribe, I can assure you it is as beautiful as it appears on its website.

We were a three-generation family of tourists: grandparents, children and grandchildren. Our goal was to find a place on Ambergris Caye where we could all be together in one dwelling, but still have privacy and space, too. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominium/apartment with full kitchen at Grand Caribe was perfect for us. Note: Grand Caribe has three and four bedroom units, too. Many amenities are provided, which are noted on the website.

On our arrival we were warmly greeted by staff members and then led to our immaculate first-class, well-equipped condo with its amazing view of the pool, the beach and Caribbean Sea. We took full advantage of the beach, three swimming pools, two hot tubs and Sea, as well as the small restaurant/bar by the main pool, which served up a delicious menu. My husband, an avid kayaker, was able to rent a kayak to paddle out to the reef. Diving, snorkeling and mainland jungle excursions are also offered.

One day we rented a six-seat golf cart to ride into the town of San Pedro (about a 20-minute ride south of Grand Caribe) and enjoyed the shops, restaurants and ice cream parlors. There are no shops in the near vicinity of Grand Caribe, so if you are a shopaholic, or want to stock up your kitchen, you will need to rent a golf cart to get into town. (Grand Caribe will buy and deliver groceries for a charge.) There are a few restaurants within walking distance of Grand Caribe, including a great BBQ place not five minutes away, which we enjoyed twice (even though it is open only from 11 am to 6 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

We feel that we spent four days in paradise at Grande Caribe and highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed if you book your next vacation getaway at Grand Caribe.

I selected Grand Caribe from a list of resorts on Ambergris Caye off of the Internet. I liked the look of it from the pictures, but that isn't always a true representation. In this case it is 100% accurate, and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. Both my boyfriend and I agree that the Grand Caribe was the best resort we saw on the island (and we looked at others while we were there to make a comparison and judgment for subsequent visit options), in terms of location (easy beach walk, bike ride and/or jog into town), and amenities (Poolside Bar and Grill, On Site Concierge/Activity Coordinator, 24 hour security staff, and daily housekeeping). Although an exercise room would have been nice, we made do with daily runs on the dirt/sand road that runs North and South, which provided some interesting scenery. The entire staff at Grand Caribe was friendly and very accommodating. Eli set us up on two wonderful excursions, one for a half day private sailboat/snorkeling charter, and the other for a mainland Mayan Ruins full day tour. The entire trip was one of the best birthday celebrations I've ever had, and we left the island feeling more satisfied with our experience than we had even remotely anticipated. We came home raving about it with lots of photos, and our friends are now eager to arrange their own trips to Grand Caribe.

My family and I stayed at the Grand Caribe the week before Christmas (2010) and had a fantastic time in Ambergris Caye. It is easy to see after exploring the Island that Grand Caribe is one of the premier properties on the Island. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath on the second floor and loved it. Our Condo was detailed with everything you need for a turn key perfect vacation. The condo was spacious, clean, new, beautiful, and had an abundance of staff and security. Everyone was friendly and truly seemed excited and welcoming. I have traveled all over the world and these are some of the friendliest folks I have ever encountered. It is great to experience a stay in a several hundred thousand dollar condo for a relatively nominal nightly fee. Trading money for this kind of luxury and adventure is money well spent. We made arrangements with management as others have done and enjoyed drinks, fruit, snacks, and food being selected and waiting on us when we arrived. For those who want to be pampered and for those who enjoy convenience, it’s the only way to go. We did a few tours which we enjoyed, Hol Chan, Shark ray alley, and Lamani which were all great. Swimming with nurse sharks is amazing, and I’m scared of sharks. We met other Americans in San Pedro who talked about not having to rent a golf cart because they stayed in town. I honestly think part of the charm of this small Island is the golf carts. The entire family enjoyed loading up on the golf cart and going to dinner or exploring the island in between snorkeling, swimming, jet skiing, building sand castles, etc. I'm going to St. Martin in a few months and I bummed that I wont be cruising on a golf cart. To give a fair and balanced review, the only thing that I would have preferred at the Grand Caribe is to have had a safe in the room. I would have liked having a place to lock up my cash and valuables while on the beach, although nothing in our room ever went missing. Additionally, the views are beautiful, but there is sea grass along the sea floor which seems a bit mucky, which is thoroughly noted in other reviews of Belize. My impression was that most swimming in the sea is done off the boat docks. Overall, it’s a great place to stay and a great Island that has a charm that is difficult to describe. Ambergris is a special place. I will definitely be returning for another vacation at Grand Caribe, and possibly to discuss a condo purchase.

We have been traveling to San Pedro for nearly 3 years and have stayed at various resorts. Our stays have been from 5 days and up to 1 month.

Grand Caribe is a spectacular resort with all of the amenities you need and more. The staff is helpful and gracious. We have booked many excursions through Grand Caribe and have always been pleased with each one. The new pool bar and restaurant have fabulous food and a friendly staff. The road is a little bumpy to town, but it's not bad and part of the adventure. There is no need to go into town frequently or you can take a water taxi if you don't want to rent a golf cart. The distance from town is nice because it provides some peace and quiet. The water is the most beautiful blue I've ever seen. Snorkeling and diving are both superb. Fishing is fun and we always catch a lot of fish.

Not everyone will love Belize, but it is our favorite place to visit! We'll be going back in February!

We Stayed over New Years and had a Total Blast! There were 3 Couples in our Party. We had a 3 Bedroom on the top floor (No Elevators though). The Suite and the Views were absolutely breathtaking! The Staff was attentive and Genuine. I have travelled to nearly every island in the Caribbean, and I have stayed at the 5 Star Ritz Carltons and Four Seasons resorts. This was just as nice without all the amenities like room service. Marlon at the front desk did a GREAT JOB taking care of all our reservations and needs. Ambergris Caye with its charm and dirt roads is a great destination and Grand Caribe is the Best on the Island

What a beautiful place to take a holiday. The setting is fantastic on the beach with a wonderful pier for boats. The people are so helpful and kind. Eli the activity director booked us great trips. The rooms were so clean and outstanding.

Thank you for your review and compliments! It was wonderful to have the 3 of you stay here with us at Grand Caribe. Between the cave tubing, zip lining, sailing & fishing excursions we kept you busy! It worked out wonderfu that you could fish in the afternoon and Shelly our private chef could prepare your "catch" of the day within an hour! We look forward to your return stay. Tropical regards! Just finished 12 days of heaven in Belize. And we LOVED the Grand Caribe. It is a beautiful development, with modern, comfortable rooms. We loved having a kitchen that was stocked with all the gear you need to cook.

I would encourage anyone staying here to get a golf cart. It's a bit north of town, and relying on water taxis isn't always the most fun way to spend your vacation.

Also - plan to do your shopping. The Sunrise Package they offer, while convenient, is a rip-off. We saw our food receipt for $301BZ, but were charged $577BZ with the upcharges and fees. It's easy enough to get your own food at any of the nearby grocery stores.

Jessica, thank you for choosing Grand Caribe as your vacation destination and for your review. Your one bedroom condo is privately owned and fully stocked for guests as all of our condos here in our rental program. The owners have paid attention to every detail! The price list you are referring to was items bought in Belize City....mainland..... Those items are purchased, and transported to San Pedro via plane or boat, picked up, and transported once again up to the resort. This requires someone to personally go to the mainland and shop for those items . Our purchasing for the guests ahead of time, saves them the time of having to go to several different grocery stores and fruit markets as you can not purchase ALL those items in one location here on the island.....thus allowing our guests to have more time having fun exploring and experiencing the island rather than spending there time shopping from store to store. For example....grapes on the mainland are $7bz a pound and out here on the island they are $13 a pound. 50 to 100% more out here. The lower price you mentioned was BEFORE the extended costs, freight and stocking. We thank you once again and look forward to having you return to Grand Caribe. Eli and all of the Grand Caribe Staff!
