“Wonderful place and perfect location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

We stayed here for 6 days with our family of five in a 3 bedroom 3 bath condo that was beautifully decorated with a spiral staircase and full kitchen with free laundry service. I mean they do your laundry for no charge! Great thing to offer in a hotel....you MUST have a golf cart here unless you have no intentions of leaving the property (which I don't recommend) the island is fantastic and easy to explore. It is safe and the restaurants in town are fabulous! We explored the entire island and we decided that the location of this hotel is the best, others are too far north and others are in the middle of town (which we do not care for) the Grand Caribe is right in the middle and it is clean with a great pool and bar that is swim up style. It also has a great pier that is a must in Ambergris Caye . An incredible amount of sea grass lines the entire shore here and you need a pier to walk on/jump off to swim and snorkel. This island is a divers destination but it is great for snorkeling too. If you don't dive and want to see the "Blue Hole" you can do so by helicopter. They serve pool bar food here and room service. The people are very friendly and helpful, the only draw back is the hotel is still under construction and has no restaurant at this time or spa (but it's coming soon) they need help at their excursion desk and need updated pricing and excursion photo's. We had to "wing it" and we were successful. We fished (inside the reef) and caught more fish then I have ever caught in my life, we also did shark ray alley and snorkeled a famous spot. We did it all on 1 excursion with a local guy who then cooked all of our fish with fresh lobster for lunch. This was the best day we had on our entire vacation...the local guy was named Tony and the girl at the excursion desk at the hotel recommended him and it was perfect! The boat was a bit old and funky but they are all like that in that area but don't be scared, just go for it. This island is fantastic and we just loved it!! We split it up with the main land too and it was a good mix and completely different, the puddle jumper is safe and super cool!!! Fly over from Belize City airport rather then taking the ferry...it's faster, cheap and super cool!

My wife, three kids (21,17 and 14) and I just returned from a great week at the Grand Caribe Resort. We have traveled quite often to Costa Rica, Mexico and Nicaragua, other travels have been to Tahiti, Greece, all over Europe, etc. We're not ready to rank our Central America vacations just yet we will defiantly be back to Grand Caribe and Ambergris Caye. As soon as we got off Tropic Air the service from Grand Caribe began. They had a taxi waited, loaded our gear and we were off to the resort. Upon checking in we were not just handed a key were escorted to our condo and were given an overview of the resort, the island, the activities, the dining, etc. We stayed in a enormous, well decorated, meticulously clean, 3br condo overlooking the beautiful coast of Ambergris Caye. First day upon landing and checking in we hit the pool and pool bar, be careful the $10 basic drinks, they add up very quick, happy hour with 1/2 price drinks is 5-7. Later that eve we walked down beach to Capricorn, a bit over priced for a tiny piece of fish with a lot of rice (our only poor restaurant experience during our trip). The food at the resort is ok at best, hopefully it will improve when the new restaurant opens. Our favorite for lunch was wild mango (try the fish tacos and fish wrap). favorite for dinner was Elvi's Kitchen, their curry fish plate was pretty darn good as were all of the other plates we had. The resort staff made renting a couple of golf carts a breeze, they lined up our various excursions which were all great, especially the snorkeling and 1/2 day fishing trip where we caught some great fish and took it to al local restaurant where they prepared it for us. Enjoy your trip. btw the weather was absolutely perfect.

Room Tip: get a condo that overlooks the ocean. the place is like a horseshoe with the lobby at the top of th...

We had a wonderful time on our family vacation. The staff at Grand Caribe is more than accommodating to their guests. Room service was very punctual. Having laundry done (included in stay!) while on a vacation is a dream come true! The facilities were very clean. The concierge will set up all excursions. Hotel is in a quiet area with beach access. Most excursions require a boat ride or plane ride to the main island of Belize - the same for getting to the resort after landing at airport on mainland Belize (boat ride takes 1 hour and 20 minutes vs. plane ride of 15 min (16 passenger plane). Resort will pick you up at airport on the island and take you back at the end of your trip. I would definitely stay again and refer to friends and family.
Thank you for a wonderful time.

Our family came in as guests for a very large destination wedding. We had a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom condo (H7) on the 3rd floor overlooking the water and it was just perfect! The condo itself was beautiful, so nicely decorated and very clean. We had 6 adults in the condo and there was plenty of room. We only had one minor problem with the upstairs bedroom which was taken care of immediately. The staff at the Grand Caribe could not have been nicer or more helpful and the housekeeping was second to none. We reserved a 6 seat golf cart for our week and were happy that we did. We made use of it at least once and sometimes twice a day to drive into town so we could try different restaurants and beach bars. The cart was always ready and waiting anytime we wanted to use it. Honestly everything was first rate and we left knowing that we will be back as soon possible. All around, a wonderful vacation for our family!

We absolutely loved Grand Caribe! It is ideally situated on the island - an easy drive to town if desired, but far enough away to enjoy GC's quiet tranquil setting. The road to town is not bad, though it does get worse if you try to go further north. There is a convenience store/grocery just before the bridge that we used several times.

The pools are beautiful, beach is very good for the island (though not swimmable). The pool bar restaurant was great and we used it a lot. The units are well appointed. We stayed in C1 and highly recommend it. We booked it on vrbo. Lots of restaurants within easy driving distance.

The staff was kind, efficient. We were impressed by how well things were done. We used them to book tours and were highly satisfied with the tour providers we used. However, like other reviewers have noted, the staff person in the concierge office is not especially helpful. She seemed somewhat indifferent. I guess I appreciate that she didn't try to push us to book tours, but if we hadn't known in advance what we wanted to do and what to ask for, I'm certain we would not have had much luck. As it was, we missed out on the Croc tour due to her lack of motivation.

The pool bar staff is great - Peter and Robert are the best. And if you go fishing, be sure to have Miss Charlotte in the kitchen cook your catch for you! Our best meal on the island!

You really can't go wrong with Grand Caribe. I think its especially family oriented. We were picked up at the dock for all our tours. If you kayak, be careful. We got one that was cracked and took on water. Overall, we loved this resort and plan to go back. Would love to buy a unit there!

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view, but most buildings don't have elevators.

We stayed in unit H1 for a week. The condo was right on the beach and the layout and amenities were first class. There were 2 adults and three kids in the 2 bed 2 bath with plenty of room for all. The staff were excellent but we would have liked the consierge to have been more informative on the excursions and possibilities available as we felt we had to draw the information from her at times. We would definitely stay there again and would be interested in investing there.

Stayed in Chico 1 for first week. Ground floor, right on the beach, a new building. Rented through vrbo.com. Owner gets backs immediately with any concerns, helpful suggestions. Moved to B5 to share with family for second week. Staff at resort are outstanding, so courteous, helpful. Got used to the maid service - they operate the washer and dryer in the unit, not allowed to use these on your own. It was quiet for the first week and then the wedding party arrived. The weather was wonderful - don't believe the weather app for San Pedro, it's for the mainland and rain forest, whatever they claim. A little bit of a sandy beach and then the sea grass so not a swimming beach but there are five pools at the resort. Ahi's and Ak'bol restaurants within easy walking distance along beach. The resort just completed a new building for a restaurant so the food options should expand from the pool bar offerings. Food is not cheap, either in restaurants or to buy. Bumpy ride into San Pedro on the golf cart, $5.00 USD return ticket to get over the bridge into town. They will not take "used" looking US money - want brand new and unmarked, small tears unacceptable too. Grocery shopping is interesting, expiration dates meaningless, expensive depending upon what you want. You want a U.S. brand name, you will pay over the odds for it. Great bakery by the toll bridge and cheap. Get your fruit and veg from roadside stands and quality/variety varies. One problem at the resort is that the water can smell of sulphur - it really was awful after the resort filled up. It's safe to drink but who wants to drink that or even brush your teeth with it. You get a free gallon of bottled water when you move in and then can buy more from them or bump it back on the golf cart from town. Golf car rental is EXPENSIVE. We went through the resort because they have them sitting there, provide the petrol and will fill it up for you if needed. You can get them cheaper [slightly] in town. You can rent bikes and ride along the beach or take on the dusty, rutted, pot-holed sand trail.

Room Tip: Not all the buildings have elevators [most don't] so if you can't walk up stairs you will ha...
