“Terrific Accommodations in an Awesome Little Town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

What a great place - San Pedro, and especially The Phoenix! Our traveling group of four shared a two-bedroom condo and loved everything about it. The rooms are really big, well-furnished, immaculately maintained, clean and comfortable. The pool and grounds are lovely, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The area is safe and secure (we were never uncomfortable or felt unsafe in all of San Pedro), and there is a security guard patrolling the hotel area day and night.

Our ocean-view condo (A-10) could not have been better. The living area as well as both bedrooms had patio doors opening to an awesome, large veranda overlooking the pool, with an incredible ocean view beyond and to the east. We were on the third floor (no elevator, but not a problem for us - the stairwells are open, tiled, wide spaces) and had the amazing view on the veranda side and covered parking for our golf cart (you will need a golf cart in San Pedro - it's the way everybody - locals as well as tourists - gets around!) on the entry side.

The only complaint from anyone in our group was that the bed pillows are really big and fluffy (and they provide lots of them!); flatter pillows are not available.

Our favorite things in Ambergris Caye: The Phoenix!; exploring San Pedro and the areas north and south (take bug spray!) by golf cart; The Palapa Bar (north); snorkeling with the sharks with Alphonse and Ivor (ask the front desk); fresh, hot corn tortillas from The Tortilla Factory (north); eating at Elvi's; the chicken drop at Caliente on Thursday nights; groceries at The Greenhouse; lobster!

You can stop looking at other hotels... you've found the very best! The staff at The Phoenix is top notch and will take care of your every need from reservation to check out. My mom, sisters and husband recently spent 7 nights celebrating my sister's 40th birthday... and we didn't want to leave. The 3-bedroom condo was beautiful and was fully equipped with everything you'd need. Aveda bath products and super comfy beds with plush duvets made our stay relaxing and comfy.

We scheduled all transfer flights and excursions via the staff and were not disappointed. They work with the best and are full of recommendations to make your stay enjoyable. We dove 3 days with Amigos del Mar (including the big trip to the Blue Hole) and then took the a river boat cruise to tour the Lamania Mayan complex. Next time, we will be sure to take the cave tubing tour, to round out our experience.

Plus, Belize was an amazing country to visit. We loved the people, food and hospitality. We look forward to returning soon.

So we just returned from an 8 day trip to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize and we stayed at the Phoenix the entire stay. The Phoenix was top notch from before we arrived - with timely responses (my spouse posed bunches of questions), help in booking getaways (diving, snorkeling, Lamani, fishing, Belize Zoo, golf cart rental....) as well as dinners. We also changed getaways and dinners somewhat often - the staff always made it happen for us. The room we had was gorgeous and spacious - 3 TVs, full kitchen, wrap around veranda with patio furniture, dishwasher, washer / dryer (they provide all the soap - need more, just ask) and more. I can't say enough about the staff - twice a day maid visits, the friendliest and most helpful staff I've seen anywhere - front desk was phenomenal in many ways, pool bartender was the nicest, restaurant staff, pool staff, and the security staff - always smiling and offering a hand (I tried to move a pool umbrella once - which I could easily do - and 2 staff popped up out of nowhere saying that I was on vacation and making the move for m)) or pointing out an iguana or offering advice on a place to eat or go. No one puts outs out a hand for a tip or makes you feel like that is required. The beds (we had a 2 bedroom) were super comfortable. A couple of nice pools too as well as a pretty simple walk to most places (although we liked using our golf cart because we would always change our mind and do 3 things instead of the planned 1 thing). The free wifi and use of iPads was a great touch. The grounds were beautiful. We had one plumbing emergency and the maintenance person was there within 10 minutes (probably 5). Downside: no beach directly in front of the hotel (although that is rare anywhere south of the toll bridge). This was our second stay in San Pedro and we thought where we went last time was phenomenal - they were topped by a bunch! We prefer to stay near town to get 'stuff' - restaurants, grocery items, souvenirs et al. North of the tool bridge is pretty barren and lots of mosquitoes - but there are some really gorgeous hotels - but you are so far from everything else out there.

Room Tip: I would talk to the front desk staff when making a reservation - we took their advice and moved our...

Have stayed here four times now and it is still the best! View, pool, pool bar, condo, restaurant, room service, dependable wifi, staff.... The high end spa is here and is very good although not my absolute favorite unless there is no breeze outside on the beach but they will set up on the beach or come to your room if you don't want the spa experience! I just love the water and the view and the breeze...I can get a massage indoors at home! Red Ginger restaurant is one of the best on the island and I recommend the angel hair pasta with lobster, lobster dip, or anything as everyone's dishes were great! There is a full kitchen in every unit if you want to cook...

Room Tip: D-2 is a two bedroom, two bath beachfront that gives the most privacy, most shade porch right on the...

The Phoenix truly exceeded all of my expectations. This was the third hotel that my boyfriend and I stayed in while we were in Belize. We first ventured to Placencia, then came to San Pedro and stayed in a new luxe hotel on the North side. After having a subpar experience at Las Terrazas, we came here hoping things would brighten up. We were truly amazed to find a few complimentary things we missed at our previous hotel. For example, we received complimentary cellphones for our stay.. We didn't have to pay to rent bicycles.. We also received a 10% discount to the popular restaurants, Blue Water Grill, Caliente and Red Ginger.. In addition there was a complimentary happy hour at one of the restaurants. Also,. we arrived to cold towels and complimentary rum punch, we had more liquor waiting for us in our room. The final touch was offering a complimentary shuttle service to the airport strip.

The level of service was top notch.. and truly admired.

The location is something to strongly consider when visiting San Pedro. After having to rely on the water taxi.. we wish we stayed at The Phoenix the entire time. On the North Side, you are restricted to your hotel restaurant.. unless you want to pay $7 one way to take the water taxi to town every night for dinner. While at the Phoenix, we could stay out all night..and have our pick from the really good restaurants in town.

The suites are very modern and very chic.. I truly loved everything about our suite. The pool was amazing and big enough in the event the area is crowded. Since we spent a great deal of time in San Pedro, we checked out the surrounding hotels.. The Phoenix is by far the best choice.

Room Tip: The rooms with the pool view are amazing.

I stayed 8 days in one of the beachview 2 bedroom condos. The condo, grounds, and all amenities are immaculately maintained. The service staff was flawless and very polite; this coming from a world traveler. Location is also centrally placed in Ambergis Caye and although the island is very safe, 24 hr security is a plus. When I return, I will definitely be booking San Pedro. The only flaw is that you must travel to other parts of the island for more pristine beaches; not a bad trade-off considering the best pool on the island is here and it would only equate to a small travel to better access to the ocean. Red ginger did not disappoint during my stay either!
