“Relaxing and Peaceful with Plenty to Do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon at Las Terrazas-it was perfect! It was our first trip to Belize, and we were blown away by the level of friendly, professional service. Everywhere! After passing all the resorts north of San Pedro on the boat ride to Las Terrazas, there was no doubt that we picked the best one!

The beaches were raked every morning, and beautifully white, the staff were extremely friendly and the welcome drink upon arrival was great after a long day of traveling. We loved that the dive shop was right next door; we went on 2 snorkeling trips which we highly recommend. Carlos and Jerry were our guides; they were such a blast! And excellent instructors. We took full advantage of the complimentary use of their kayaks, free movie rentals from the gift shop and the pool bar, that opened at 10am. There were also iguanas hanging around the resort that were entertaining to watch.

We stayed in a Garden Villa, steps away from the pool and beach. We absolutely loved the fully furnished unit, it was cozy and inviting with plenty of space (2 bathrooms and a walk-in closet!) We borrowed bikes (they are free for quick trips or around $7/day) and rode to a local market to get some things for the kitchen. We cooked dinner only once because food at the O Restaurant was so tasty. We even had a private beach dinner planned. Manuel discussed the menu with us when we arrived and the next night we enjoyed a wonderful 3 course meal under the stars.

The pool was amazing! And kept at a refreshing temperature. After a dip, we'd return to the beach. There were always beach chairs available for lounging among the palm trees. There was a swimming area off the dock which was nice if you wanted to experience swimming in the warm Caribbean.

The city of San Pedro is about 4 miles south of the resort. We went twice. Once by golf cart (we rented from Las Terrazas) and once by boat taxi. Both very fun experiences! We ate the best pupusas and burrito at Waruguma in town. You must try it!

We were told Las Terrazas was "our home away from home." Between the friendly staff and relaxing environment, it truly was. We had a wonderful, unforgettable experience.

The resort was great. They kept telling us how crowded it was, but it seemed peaceful and relaxing. We were there as a couple, and there were lots of families with gaggles of children (that did not seem bad as there was plenty to keep the kids busy and their parents watched them). It is out of the way from San Pedro, which I at first thought was bad, but later decided was great. It is hard to get to anywhere else on the island without a long walk (although a long walk on a beach, so just depends on your attitude), a bike ride (you can rent bikes during the day), a golf cart ride (also can rent, but the road is terrible), or a boat taxi (we never tried). The rooms are actually apartments so they have bedrooms, living rooms, and kitchens - not your typical hotel room. There were always beach chairs to sit and relax in, the Hobie Cat to sail in - it was great for relaxing. We had the penthouse with a soaking pool (nice idea, but we only used the soaking pool once because we felt we should since we paid for it, but definitely not worth it).

Room Tip: Penthouse with balcony is not worth it. I like the rooms with an ocean view because you can relax fr...

Let me start by clarifying that this is probably the best location on the island if you like quiet and privacy. The hotel is located north of the town. There are many comments here about the location from town, but like other island resorts, if you want to visit the town you take a cab and pay a fare. In this case the "cab" is a water taxi. You can also get to town by golf cart; which is part of the adventure of being in another country; and one that is third world (translation: roads not paved and many pot holes). We enjoyed being away from town and the feel of being on a private beach as not many tourists or locals walk along this part of the island. The town is small. Once you visit it one time there really is not a need to go back. If you don't want to eat all of your meals at O Restaurant there are other restaurants you can walk to (Rendevous next door, Capricorn, the restaurant at Coco Beach). Ask the front desk staff.

Probably best resort due to the location, size of the rooms (full size town homes!) and the staff. The pictures and descriptions on their website are accurate. Everything you need plus more are provided for you in the units. The water is drinkable (if you are not comfortable you can buy bottled water for your room), coffee is provided, kitchen is stocked, bathrooms have first class amenities (plus blow dryers), there is a safe in the bedroom, bathrobes, even washers and dryers (we brought some laundry soap from home and washed all of clothes before we left the resort). The staf is incredibly warm and friendly, which we found throughout the island. Curl, Manuel and Ovel greeted us each day byb name and seemed to know all of the guests staying there.

You can be as active as you want to be or as "chill" as you want. We did both. Loved lazing on the beach in the big lounge chairs. Yes, there is sea grass on the beach, but the staff cleans it regularly. All of the resorts we saw seemed to experience this at one degree or another. Highly recommend the cave tubing and zip lining (on the mainland [ we were picked up at the resort and returned to the resort). Not only is that a fun trip for the day but you get to experience more of Belize than just the beach. We also went reef fishing. The highlight of the trip was having our catch (Snapper and Baricuda) prepared by Chef Patrick for our dinner.

One last thing. There are some comments on the transfer from Belize City by boat. I can only assume this is people who make their reservations online and never contacted the reservations office. Lorraine in their US office will arrange transfers for you. It is a quick 15 min plane ride from Belize City to Ambergris Caye. They have a driver meet you at the airport in San Pedro who takes you to the little marina and Las Terrazas' boat takes you staright to the resort. Amazing start to the trip and very simple.

Las Terrazas was a great spot for a spring vacation. We had a large group (over 20 people), so the 2 and 3 bedroom villa options were great. Really enjoyed the beautiful pool area as well as the complimentary use of sail boats, paddle boards and kayaks. The beach attached to the resort was very nice but the water was filled with sea grass- so not the best swimming experience in the ocean. Had to go pretty far out to get to a sandy bottom. Only other major downside is that the resort is isolated. You have to take a 1.5 hour boat transfer to get there from the main airport and you have to take a $5 per person water taxi to get to town or any other restaurant besides the one on premises. (You can rent bikes or golf carts to go into town, but we only tried this during the day.)

Thank you for taking the time to post your positive comments regarding your recent stay at Las Terrazas Resort. As you experienced, our two and three bedroom extremely spacious town homes are ideal for family & friends; especially those who want to share a unit and possibly split the costs.

The good fortune of having the second largest barrier reef in the world 1/4 off of our shoreline is the reason for the growth of sea grass along the entire island of Ambergris Caye. The waves break at the reef providing us a calm shoreline which promotes this growth. The sea grass is important as it is the spawning ground for the plentiful conch and many of the fish species that inhabit the reef. Although it is illegal to remove the sea grass from the water, some resorts do this anyway to make a swimming area. In addition to our 70' infinity pool you enjoyed, we hope you took the time to use the swimming area which we created at the end of our dock.

Based on your comments, it appears you elected to arrive at the resort by ferry from the mainland and were able to enjoy an hour on the beautiful Caribbean as a start to your trip. The majority of our guests opt for the Air Transfer we book for them; which is a 20 minute commuter flight over the Caribbean followed by our driver meeting them at San Pedro Air strip and then a quick 10 minute boat ride to the resort; a great way to start a vacation!

In addition to our on site restaurant, O; there are options within walking distance of Las Terrazas as well as two restaurants further north that provide complimentary boat transfers to enjoy dinner in their establishments plus a restaurant in San Pedro that will provide complimentary cab service to dine with them. Of course the town of San Pedro has many fantastic dining options too. Our Front Desk team is full of great recommendations to enhance your stay with us.

Again, thank you not only for your comments, but for selecting Las Terrazas Resort for your spring vacation. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any personal assistance with a future reservation.

Kind Regards,

Went there as a huge family, and rented 2 apartments for 12 people and a great time! The hotel was nice and quiet, the pool was delightful along with the wait staff! The private beach was great to relax at and the resort supplied paddle boards and kayaks - so much fun! And the nice part about the dock was the swimming area at the end !

This is a hard review to write because there were some amazing things however the negatives out weighed the positives. When we booked we were told that we had a 2 or 3 bedroom suite with a minimum of one king bed and queen bed in the other bedroom with 2 full bathrooms. There was even mention of an outdoor shower? When we checked in they took us to a 2 bedroom lagoon view on the ground floor with the balcony backing on to the dirt road with a king bed and 2 singles in the second room. When we asked to be moved we were told that we could for an extra 108.00 a night. They did push the 2 single beds together. What made this worse was that a couple on their honeymoon told us that they were just upgraded from a 2 bedroom lagoon view to a 3 bedroom with a view at now charge! HMMM?

Then for the rest of the week the hotel had water problems to the point of shutting off the water for 3 days in a row. The hotel did offer us a free lunch and gave us a 1 gallon jug of water for drinking for 4 people. It would of been nice to have a jug water everyday in our room since the water had strong sulfur smell. We ended up purchasing jugs of water for the entire week.

I would expect a "luxury" hotel would have done a bit more with these issues. We found out at the end of the week that there empty 3 bedroom suites while we were there.

FYI

Las terrazas is about 5 miles north of San Pedro toll bridge. yes a toll bridge it $2.50 US each way. it is 1.5 hours to walk the beach or 30 minutes by golf cart. the golf carts cost between 200.00 and 300.00 per week. the cart is must if stay here.

Don't get me wrong I loved my trip to Belize and can wait to go back. But we will not be staying here. We checked other places while on our trip. They were all closer to San Pedro and cheaper. Captian Morgans, Phoenix, Ramons, Coco Beach to mention a few

As we mentioned to you earlier today, the travel agent you utilized booked the room through a Wholesaler. The request we have in writing from the Wholesaler is for a 2 Bedroom Laguna Residence; which is what was provided. According to our Front Desk Staff, we offered an upgrade to the next available rate category with three bedrooms (Veranda unit 242) when it was known that the travel agent apparently made an error. We also mentioned that the rate difference would apply for the upgraded unit and the move was declined. We are truly sorry that the travel agent did not properly describe the original unit location and number of bedrooms. Laguna Residences are our lowest priced room categories. This unit is booked regularly to many very happy guests.

The honeymoon couple referred to booked and paid the three bedroom upper Lagoon unit and were indeed upgraded. We discovered that the shower glass door in the Lagoon unit was shattered and could not be replaced for 3-5 days and as we had no similar unit available they were moved to a Veranda unit. I am not sure why an oceanfront three bedroom was mentioned….perhaps just miscommunication. We had two ocean front rooms booked during your dates and both guests paid full rate.

It is also a fact that we did have an unanticipated breakdown of our reverse osmosis plant and it took a nine days to get repair parts from the USA. During this time our team worked diligently every day hauling water from nearby resorts and properties in an attempt to keep up with the demand. We did run out for a very short time and offered free bottled water until it was restored. The free lunch was a token of appreciation for the guests' inconvenience.

We offer our apologies for the reservation miscommunication by the agent as well as the water issues we unexpectedly experienced. We do appreciate the comments and the opportunity to address them; both by e-mail to you today and this public forum.
