“unBELIZEable - diving, kayaks, Mayan tours, and fantastic resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2011

The resort was amazing - the rooms were great, the staff fantastic, the pool, restaurant, and room service were all wonderful and soooo accommodating. Don't miss a massage in the spa (or on the pier) as part of your stay. Check out the kayaks and catamarans, snorkel, or visit the White Sands dive shop next door; the dive trip rates are really reasonable for some of the most fantastic diving on the second largest reef in the world. We also caught a Mayan tour and our next trip (going back? definitely!) will include cave tubing as well as (hopefully) the ATM Mayan tour... and absolutely more scuba. Loved it.

What an amazing resort. It was very clean and well maintained. It is a small enough resort that you get excellent customer service and get to know all the staff. The location is ideal, walk of the pier and jump in the water to snorkel. The resort offers many trips and organizes everything for you so all you have to do is show up. The rooms and beds were so comfortable, the accomodations were like those of a major city. Completely furnished and very spacious.I can't wait until I can go back!

Room Tip: Both ocean view and courtyard are available.

We visited Belize with diving in mind, since it is a superb dive location. Las Terrazas is located next door to an uber-friendly dive shop (White Sands) which makes diving very convenient and accessible.

Upon landing, the cab driver stopped at a grocery store in town where we purchased
a few snacks and drinks before heading to the water taxi. We arranged the transfer from the airstrip through the hotel, and this was a very nice feature.

The layout of the hotel is very smartly done with large units fully equipped with washers and dryers and full-service kitchens. You truly feel like you are in your own "Island Home" in Belize. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom Verandah unit that afforded privacy to of each us with the bedrooms and attached bathrooms separated by the kitchen. The unit sizes are truly spacious and thoughtfully planned. The decor is tasteful and elegant. Although we did not have a direct ocean view, we were able to see the ocean from a couple of angles from the living room and terrace. The terraces (hence the name) are spacious and open, and we enjoyed the morning sun from ours.

The "O" restaurant is a wonderful place and the food was very good. As with the hotel, casual elegance is the theme. The grouper and the pizza were outstanding and the salads are very fresh. The tables outside to the left of the restaurant are underlit and give a nice glow when dining al fresco in the evening. The entire restaurant sits on an island in a pool of water with spouts of water on either side. It is a very engaging and interesting design.

The wind was blowing consistently during our stay, which kept the mosquitos away
which was quite refreshing on an island vacation where they can be a nuisance.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There were some minor maintenance issues in the unit, and were addressed by the front desk within an acceptable time frame. The one point we noted is that all the staff did not have information readily available when asked.
Having run a number of upscale hotels in the States, we have noted that a very important factor for higher standard hotels is to make certain that any and all questions can be answered on the spot and correctly by all staff. This gives the guests a sense of
confidence and can relax knowing that they don't have correct information or need to
follow up.

Note that almost every hotel along the stretch of beach, including Terrazas, has turtle grass in front of the beach. If you're looking for a white-sand/blue water wading experience directly from the beach, know that this isn't the case. The hotel gives you kayaks and hobie cats at no cost and you can take them to where the water is signature Caribbean blue. Note however that there is extensive and frequent boat traffic in that area. We went swimming, but tied the Kayak to our life vests to mark our position in the water to oncoming boat traffic.
We found that our water shoes came in very handy.

The boat traffic is in large part water taxi service, as there are no cars allowed on the part of the island where Terrazas is located. The one-way cost to San Pedro town at the time of our stay was $7.00 per person one way. You can also purchase a weekly pass if you are traveling back and forth a lot. The hotel offers bikes or golf carts to get around if you feel like exploring. Alternatively, the hotel offers a number of excursions around the island.

The gym is a small exercise room with 3 cardio machines, weights and a couple of
Altius exercise balls that were under-inflated. You can get a workout in if you really want to, however we found the room is very small, but nice that it is provided. Instead, we opted for a power-walk along the beach and bike rides because we have plenty of gyms back home!

It is important to know that the government tax in Belize is 12.5%. The hotel charges a 12.5% service charge as well, making the effective tax 25%. We had 'sticker shock" at first, but also wanted to note that the 12.5% service charge is not for the servers. It is split amongst all the staff of the hotel, insuring that even the staff you don't see that make your stay a pleasant one is taken care of. Any additional tip over the 12.5% will go directly to your server.

Overall, it was a fabulous experience, and we would recommend Las Terrazas for a casually elegant stay on Ambergris.

Room Tip: Ask for the townhomes closest to the beach

What an absolutely beautiful resort. The rooms are huge, even a dining room attached to the main living area. You could have a full sit-down family dinner! Bedroom was very plush and the bathroom had a full view out to the reef. The deck outside the bedroom had the same view as the bathroom and perfectly private. Just a few steps out of the unit was the lovely pool and restaurant. Poolside fresh juice and delicious food, loved the fresh grouper and snapper. There was never anything out of place and fabulous service. Just remember this is a destination resort, from San Pedro's airport you must get to a dock to catch the resorts water taxi or the local intercoastal water taxi.

Room Tip: Any beachfront room - views to die for.

We just returned from our stay at Las Terrazas, and I only have wonderful things to say about both the resort and San Pedro. We had such an amazing time. The staff at Las Terrazas were helpful, kind, and friendly. Since the resort is pretty small it allows for a very personable experience. Sully, at the front desk, was especially helpful! She was great at assisting with whatever it was we needed!
We rented a golf cart for our week's stay which enabled us to come and go as we pleased. We traveled with another couple so it was totally worth the extra money. We went into town every night for dinner. I chose the restaurants based on Trip Advisor reviews and I have to say that one restaurant was better than the next! We had great food and great drinks everywhere we went. The town of San Pedro had a lot to offer as far as shopping, dining, and night life as well.

I vacationed with my wife, 5 year-old daughter, and in-laws for 7 days in April and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. We returned tanned, well-fed and rested. The location is spectacular and really caters to those who enjoy snorkeling, scuba, sailing, kayaking, etc. If you simply want to lie on the beach, I would not suggest Ambergris due to the sea grass immediately offshore. The staff was welcoming, attentive and very professional. Manuel at the front desk answered our questions and impressed me with his dedication to friendly and thorough service. We had some initial problems with the a/c and ice maker, and these were immediately addressed. We took advantage of the spa services multiple times and were fully satisfied...Mel did a fantastic job! Note that the resort does not have a spa per se (no hot tub, sauna, relaxation rooms, etc.), but it does offer a full spa menu. Food at the restaurant was high quality & delicious and we dined there several nights. Before arriving we arranged for grocery delivery through Mata Grande Grocery, and so our place was fully stocked when we walked in; if you are staying more than a few days, I highly recommend this service. As the resort is not bargain-basement, don't expect to pay budget prices for cocktails and dining; you can eat & drink on a budget in town, but will need to take a water taxi to get there. Housekeeping was very friendly and outgoing, and having a washer/dryer available in the units was a plus. Overall a memorable visit.

We visited Las Terrazas Resort for one week. My husband and myself, his sister and husband and their son who is 16. Having to take a small plane from Belize City and then a water taxi is a tiny price to pay for a little slice of paradise. We were greeted at the Resort dock with rum punch drinks and refreshing wash clothes(not to mention our sister-in law who also brought us drinks!). The private beach, pool and overall grounds were kept impeccable. Our 3 bedroom unit was very tastefully decorated and provided all the amenities of home. I would recommend you use the local grocery service to have grocery delivered prior to arriving, that was nice! The entire staff was amazing, they made sure we were enjoying ourselves every day...every hour. Anything we needed, they were there to provide. Ishmael, Rroddie, Ronnie proved to be quite entertaining and accomodating at the same time. They really left a lasting impression on us! We got a couples massage, excellent, highly recommended. The town of San Pedro offered many wonderful restaurants although it was a little expensive to get back and forth to town ($7.00 per person if you use the resort taxi, $5.00 per person if you call Dave's water taxi), this is each way. Thanks to all the staff for making our vacation very enjoyable! Kirk and Violet
