“Beautiful resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2009

We read the reviews about Coco Beach before we stayed there and were happy with our choice. The resort is still a work in progress with construction going on behind the main rooms, but they were very respectful with the construction so it wasn't an issue. There is no restaurant on site (will be done in November) but the restaurant next door is really close and the bar has a reasonably full menu (food is sent over from the restaurant next door). We also ordered pizza from in town several times after long days in the water -- it was incredibly good and they deliver to the hotel (they have teenage boys that actually bike the pizza up the coast from San Pedro).

The hotel will arrange pick-up and drop-off in San Pedro via water taxi. Just let them know how you're arriving (air or water) and they'll make sure you're taken care of.

You have full access to the sister hotel next door for their pool but Coco Beach's pool is really nice and is the largest we saw on the island. The swim up bar is great, but the service is incredibly slow unless you get the female bartender who rocks -- the guys were slow even when you were the only person at the bar.

The hotel does not have its own dock yet (they were building it while we were there) but the sister hotel does and it is close by. We went on several trips with the tour shop at the dock -- the BBQ/snorkel trip was fantastic with Elias as the guide but we had a trip to Hol Chan and Shark Ray alley that was not so great because the guide was in a major hurry even though we were the only people on the tour. Take the tour to Bacalar Chico (not offered through this resort) if you have time because the snorkeling in that trip is great and it is cool to see the channel.

My husband and I are divers and the rest of our group snorkel. The resort booked a trip to the Blue Hole for my husband and me. It was a fantastic trip -- 3 dives in one day with the first being at the Blue Hole. I almost didn't go because I didn't think diving the Blue Hole would be that great (it is just a hole in the reef after all), but the stalagtites and stalagmites at depth are incredible and we shared the dive with several white reef sharks. We also booked a diving trip from the resort that took us out just beyond the reef -- I wouldn't recommend that one so much because visibility wasn't as good and there wasn't much to see.

Service at the hotel was slow. There were six of us in a 2 bedroom suite (kids slept on the sofabed) and they seemed to have a problem keeping our toilet paper stocked and the office kept running out of coffee and creamer. The room was beautiful though, wood trim and spacious with a great view of the ocean and a balcony overlooking the pool. We also had a full kitchen and basic dishes, dishwasher, full size refrigerator, etc.

Overall the annoyances were minor and we loved our stay. The food at the restaurant was wonderful even if service was Belizean. The view from the rooms was great, the quality and condition of the rooms was incredible, and we really enjoyed our stay.

We are scuba divers and are out in the hot sun all day, everyday. This resort is so nice, air-conditioned, beautiful pool and the perfect place to relax and rest for the non-diving times. We loved it!

Tucked in between Belize's main shore and the great Belizean reef, the keys (cayes) are perfectly protected and even the ocean becomes quiet here with calm breakless waves coming to shore. From your beachfront hammock, you can see larger waves break over the reef in the distance, and you look forward to tomorrow's explorations to snorkel, kayak or hopping a water taxi to town to enjoy all of the things this beautiful country has to offer. But today you feel comfortable in just kicking back by the amazing pool with swim-up bar, and chatting with friendly and helpful staff that can help make your stay the trip of a lifetime. The rooms are more like an oasis with cool air conditioning, fans, and views to die for. My friends and I had an amazing time and are already planning another trip back! Make Coco Beach Resort your home away from home in this tropical paradise.

Though many of the previous comments about 10 minute water taxi's to town, mild construction and other small little inconveniences this should not detract you at all from staying here. If you want perfection go to the Ritz. We stayed 2 weeks and would have stayed longer.
I have traveled all over the Caribbean and work for a large hotel chain so trust me when i tell you that the staff are some of the best you'll meet. There not high and mighty but there genuinely nice and personable.
I personally went for the diving and though Tuff Enough is a smaller outfit they provide everything you need.

We loved our stay at Coco Beach Resort! I went with my boyfriend and sister and we were weary at first since it was during the off season, but once we pulled up to the resort, we were blown away! Hands down one of the best places I have ever gone on vacation. The only down side is the mosquitos, but other than that, this was a great vacation! The rooms were impecable with everything you could need. Although they dont have the restaurant at this resort, you can get delivery and room service from the resort right next to it. The grounds/pool were georgeous! I cant wait until I can go back there again!

We live in Placencia Belize and just wanted a weekend getaway for our anniversary. This was the perfect place to relax. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night. It is out of town, so its best to take the water taxi in on your 1st day to purchase groceries. If you are pretty active, we recommend renting bikes at the resort and riding into town on the beach. Its pretty and a good work out. Dont take the road. There is only 1 restaurant next door open in low season, that is why cooking in your own condo is convenient. We saw pretty much all the other resorts on either side of coco beach, there is no pool that compares to this one. The rooms are very luxurious, which you do not find too much in Belize, especially at this price. The construction is not a big deal at all. We never heard any and does not disturb the relaxing atmosphere. We also had in room massages that were excellent by Rosie. We will definitely return.

First of all, it was a delight to find a place in Ambergris Caye that had quality customer service and a real website which provided information and made booking so easy. We arrived at Belize International and the Coco Beach staff took care of all of our connections! They arranged for a flight from the international airport to San Pedro and then we had a driver waiting there when we landed (the flight was maybe 15 minutes and fun). Then Coco Beach provided their own water taxi service from "downtown" San Pedro to the resort which was just a few minutes away. Upon arrival, we were met by staff and given the grand tour. "Grand" not being an understatement. Ambergris Caye is so beautiful that perhaps one cannot go wrong regardless of where they stay, but we felt like we arrived in paradise. Coco Beach resides next door to the Belizean Shores Resort (also lovely but Coco Beach is much nicer). At the Shores dock is Tuff E Nuff tours who can arrange any and all activities for you if you haven't already pre-arranged them. They also offer quick and easy transportation via an awesome 5 minute boat ride back to "town".

On our walk through the sand to our suite, you'll immediately notice the pristine and immaculate grounds. There is a new dock being built that by no means is an eyesore and not once did I hear any sounds of construction. I'm not sure what some reviewers were complaining about! Anyway, the pool and pool area are fantastic. The last thing I wanted to do while in Belize was check e-mail but there was even free wifi poolside.
Palms and sand surround the shallow pool as well as the volleyball net and the jacuzzi. The swim up bar is really nice. Water is deeper and the drinks are great!

Our suite was amazing! It had a dining area, living room, an amazing kitchen with all the amenities you need, beautiful and comfy bedroom, and bathroom with a gorgeous shower. I immediately fell in love with the place and suddenly found myself thinking of ways to quit my job and move to Belize! AC was pumping, ceiling fans were great too. If you absolutely must catch your favorite TV show or a big game, there were more television stations available then I even have at home!

Food can be arranged to be delivered or you can just easily pick up provisions in San Pedro. Lots of dining options in San Pedro by the way (look for Waraguma). Also, you can order food at the swim up bar or take a super quick walk next door to the Upper Deck Restaurant and Sports Bar. It is ultra convenient and the Belizean breakfast there is great.

When not snorkelling or scuba diving, etc you can easily relax by the pool, borrow sea kayaks, or bike into San Pedro. The option to cook your own meals or go out for local fare was a nice option.

When we finally had to leave, Coco Beach got us back to the airstrip and onto our connecting flight (to Belize Municipal as we were going on to Belmopan. They even made the second half of our stay that much easier).
