“Coco Beach Resort - A magnificent paradise.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

We have been guests at the Coco Beach Resort from 12/25/2012 - 1/3/2013. The resort has amazing picturesque views, beautiful and clean accommodations. Coco Blanca, the hotel restaurant, is spectacular and the food is delicious. The host, bartenders and staff were super friendly. Once you are here you will not want to leave. Special thanks to Ben the General Manager, Claire the hostess of Coco Blanca; Mac, Joe, Milton, Amir, Armando, Alex, Jose, and Monch the resort's bartenders, waiters, and staff for providing excellent service.

Thank you for making this the best trip ever.

Evelyn, Mel, Katharine

We stayed at Coco Beach for seven days and had an amazing time. It was our luck that the restaurant opened the same day that we arrived. We decided to give it a try and it by far exceeded our expectations. The food was incredible and the service was excellent. We had Armando as our waiter and he was great and gave us helpful advice regarding exploring Belize. We came back to the restaurant three times during our stay and were never disappointed!!! The manager and chef were so sweet and passionate about the quality of food and presentation. We were pleased to learn that you can also order the restaurant food poolside!

The pool bar staff ( Amar, Dion, Armando, Joseph, Milton, Mike) were fun, welcoming, and always prepared to meet our drink needs. Go down the pool water slide at least one time during your stay. :)

Lastly, look for Nick or Zoby if you need anything. They were both very helpful and insightful, and continued to check in with us to make sure that our stay was perfect. We look forward to coming back to Coco Beach soon.

Although the rooms at Coco Beach are comfortable and clean, overall the negatives sadly outweigh the positives.

Negatives:

First, the food: When my wife and I stayed in early November, the on-site restaurant was not yet open so we had to walk through a construction zone to its sister property to eat and the food there was terrible. Of course, going into town is an option but that means summoning a water taxi every time for the 10 minute ride back and forth.

Second, the beach: A narrow strip of hard sand unsuitable for laying out on and the water is replete with sea grass. Therefore, you can neither lay out on the beach nor take a swim in the nearby ocean. The resort does offer kayaks, ostensibly so one can paddle offshore a few hundred yards (to clear the grass) if ocean swimming is desired but who wants to go to the trouble just to cool off?

Third, location: Since the resort is located on the caye, even basic excursions, such as snorkeling trips, are very expensive since they must include the costs to cover a 20 minute commuter flight to and from the mainland. You could take a boat to the mainland but plan on a 2-3 hour ride each way.

Positives:

First, Courteous staff. To his credit, the manager of the hotel was sympathetic to our dissatisfaction with the resort and graciously let us cancel the remaining days of our reservation without penalty.

Second, pool area: Although we didn't actually take a swim, (we didn't stay long enough) the pool areas seemed nice enough.

Thank you again for taking the time to review your stay at Coco Beach Resort. We wanted to provide you with some updates on the property:

1. We are pleased to confirm that our onsite restaurant has been open for some time. In fact, we have two onsite restaurants and as you will note from recent reviews our guests enjoy the food.

2. With the real estate boom in Belize, construction continues to be an issue country wide. Our guests can simply walk along the beach should they wish to dine at our sister resort where our guests also enjoy signing privileges.

3. Two water taxi companies currently service our resort and we think taking a boat to/from town is a great way to have an authentic island experience. That being said, with our onsite food and beverage offerings, amazing pools, on site massage service, complimentary kayaks and paddle boards and a very fun bar scene, some of guests never leave the resort. Additionally, the road from town is now paved all the way up to Coco Beach so many of our guests rent a golf cart to travel to/from San Pedro town.

4. In regards to the beach, it is VERY important to us that our guests realize that Belize as a whole is not known for those traditional walk in beaches like you might find in Cancun. The reason is that Belize enjoys the protection of the World's second largest barrier reef system. This means that we don't get strong wave or undertow action which makes for warm, calm and grassy shallows. Sea Grass or what some call Turtle Grass thrives and is in fact an important part of the ecosystem. For most people they don't care to shuffle through the Sea Grass as it feels strange and/or tickles their feet, so they prefer to enter the water off of a dock where the water is deeper. Our sister resort, Belizean Shores, has a great swimming dock and then of course we two of the island’s favorite pools onsite.

5. Yes, we are located on the island of Ambergris Caye, we are not located on the mainland, It's important our guests realize that. Still, many of our guests enjoy traveling to the mainland for tours on a daily basis and we arrange this for them via the flight so they do not have 3 hours of lone transportation added to the trip.

We are happy that you found our staff to be courteous and thank you again for your valuable feedback.

It was excellent. Like a DREAM. Met and exceeded my expectaions. Hotel not only beautiful but all staff was exceptional. Zoby made us feel welcomed and at home. The restaurant was opened just the day before our arrival but it was superb!! Our waiter Nicholas did an awesome job as well. Very kind, polite and professinal. Most beautful and well decorated restaurant in the Entire country. It was not just dinner it was an"experience" but was not expensive for the decor and service. We truly loved every moment of it and wanted to stay longer. Couldnt wait to get home and tell our friends and family about it. Score 15 on 10 point scale

Great rooms - Flat screen TVs, King-sized beds, sauna-like showers, balconies that overlook the pools (wading and swimming). The staff is even more impressive than the rooms - Zoby (she helped me track down a dentist in San Pedro), Deon (bartender) and Michael (bartender) were absolutely a ten on a ten point scale suggesting drinks, food, and making conversation, Larry (pool guy), Noel at the front desk, and Tula (the manager). These are all quality employees of the resort and are equally impressive as people. I would not hesitate to go back and I would recommend this resort to anyone that wants to spend some time at Ambergris Caye. They never talk down the competition and they make great recommendations for activities. You need something, they make it happen. See Oscar on the wharf for snorkeling suggestions.

The only downside and this is something people mention in other reviews is that the restaurant is not yet open. But, Emily and I happened to go in to see what it looked like and it's beautiful. As I understand it, it's only weeks away from being completed. Was it a problem not being open? Not really. There are plenty of places to get something to eat up and down the beach. Coco Beach is an easy walk or bike ride into San Pedro (by bike along the beach about fifteen minutes). There are good restaurants there, as well. There is also a pretty decent grocery that is about 100 yards down the beach toward San Pedro. It's near Captain Morgan's. Go there for rum, souvenirs, water, cokes, snacks, etc. It's painted light green - ask for the green grocery. Breakfast? There's a neat little place for breakfast (croissants, cinnamon rolls, great coffee) on the beach and near the green grocery. The young woman that runs it is fantastic! Sit on the front porch for the ocean view.

Coco Beach Resort - Safe, beautiful, and accommodating - Go!

Belize is an amazing country but can be chaotic and confusing. Coco beach resort made it amazingly easy to just enjoy our trip and not waste any time. Larry the pool guy is a gem, as well as all of the front desk crew and esp the bar tenders at the swim up bar. There is no restaurant but great ones nearby and you can go into town which itself is fun for the kids. Tuff n nuff is seconds away and can handle any trip or request. This place is worth every penny!

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must. Splurge for the kitchen not the casitas. We stayed in D1 and loved it,

My Dad, brother and I travelled to Belize for a relaxing week of scuba diving. We found a nice deal on this resort from bookit.com. From the tripadvisor reviews it sounded great.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a two bedroom villa and it was fantasic. Clean, modern and luxurious.
Our villa looked out over the beach side pool. Since our main reason for coming to Belize was diving, we chose to use the dive operator at the resort. This was Tuff Enuff diving. They were just a short barefoot walk from our room to the dock.
The resort restaurant is at the resort next door and was pretty good for on-site dining.
The grounds were very nice and the pool with large swim up bar was beautiful.
I would absolutely stay here again.
