After researching many places to stay on Ambergris, we settled on Bermuda Beach (C1) at The Landings. We made the perfect choice for our family of 3. The unit was comfortably furnished, clean and fully equipped plus, steps away from the pool which our 8 year old really enjoyed the ground floor access to. The pool was clean and I read many reviews about folks saying it was too cold but we found it perfectly refreshing! The view of the water from the units patio online is much closer in reality so we were really thrilled. The location of Landings was the perfect choice for us as we were away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro Town but with easy access only 5 minutes away by cart.
We rented our cart for the full 10 days and it was worth it to zip back and forth. You will find supermarkets all over the Island and being a foodie I will say you need to go to a few different stores to gather supplies but that was half the fun! Casa Pan Dulce Bakery for breads and flan is excellent. Greenhouse on Main Street has some of the best produce in town (I had a hard time finding salad greens and avocados) This place has best selection at reasonable prices, they also have some great frozen seafood in the freezer section. Meat can be purchased from Linos Butcher but I found decent meat at the little market behind the landings, ground beef for burgers (sausage factory brand) along with nice deli ham. Over all, groceries are quite expensive but you learn to eat like the locals and buy the fresh tortillas which are cheap, fresh baked goods, canned salsa etc somewhat affordable.
Our top places to eat where - Elvis kitchen on Main Street - Amazing coconut shrimp and fish dishes, good quality chardonnay (I am picky and this was the only decent wine I could get at a restaurant on the Island - there is a wine shop see below for tips)
Blue Water Grill - Great breakfast
Ramones Village - good steak, terrible breakfast
Estels by the Sea - amazing breakfast (try the fry jacks! yum!!!)
Hidden Treasure - South of town, residential area, great ambience, romantic and quality lovely food, well worth a trip
Aji's - North of The Landings - Amazing outdoor setting with twinkling lights, great service, excellent menu... note you will need bug spray to dine at night,,, we got bitten alive
Palapa Bar - Great location just minutes north of The Landings, friendly staffm great conch and shrimp cerviche, decent white wine, awesome cocktails (Manango) fun to float around in the inner tubes.
Wine De Vine - Great little wine bar south of airport on Coconut Drive, good selection of American wines, along with Chilean and Argentina brands too. Great selection of cheeses and amazing fresh cheesecake (try the pina colada one)
Coco Locos Bar - in the complex itself is small, owners are friendly, pizzas are great but limited selection. White wine was terrible!
Things to do:
Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley an absolute must! So happy we snorkeled that day, it was a real once in a lifetime experience!
My hubby went on 7 dives during our stay, a couple of local reef dives which were fun and then a trip out to blue hole which was an all day adventure with 3 dives along the way. He really wanted to get down to Turneffe but none of the dive shops had enough divers interested to make the trip. We saw an abundance of sea life from green turtles, morays, sharks (reef and nurse) rays and colorful fish. If you love to snorkel and dive then Belize is the place for you! Susan and Roger can arrange all your tours which makes it effortless!
Boca Del Rio park, is a fun beach area that our son enjoyed swimming with the local kids, it's shallow, sandy and safe.
Drive up north in your cart for a wee adventure, although not much to see up there, we were in search of the Butterfly Farm at Rendevous Winery but I believe it is closed, as is the Blue Morpho Butterfly farm which was a must see in our Lonely Planet book, so that was the only disappointment of the trip.
The flight over from Belize City is an aventure in itself! very quick flight only 15 minutes and well worth it!
Weather was perfect, only rained once or twice during our stay but quickly cleared up, pack light and forget dressy clothes/shoes as you will end up in shorts, sundresses and flip flops the entire time! Roger and Susan were the perfect hosts as you will read from every review on here! Everything was taken care of in a friendly yet professional manner from our intial trip planning right up to the email thanking us for our visit upon our return home! Now that is service!!!!
We cannot wait to return!
