Sweet Tomatoes is a buffet-style chain restaurant, with most of its locations in the southwest. The only locations east of the Mississippi are in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. We visited the location near North Point Mall in Alpharetta, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.
Don't dress-up when you come to this restaurant. Most of the year you can wear shorts and sandals and you will fit right in. We arrived about 3 p.m. on a Sunday and found this restaurant not crowded, but fairly full.
When you enter the restaurant you first see a huge salad bar filled with many varieties of fresh, raw vegetables, and some fruits. There were three prepared salads, including Caesar salad, but mostly it was do-it-yourself. You are presented with a wide variety of choices, but surprisingly for a restaurant named for tomatoes, only one variety of tomatoes.
This restaurant is not exclusively salads, however. Also available were several soups, pasta, breads, and deserts. While a vegetarian will find many choices at this restaurant, beef chili, chicken-noodle soup, dishes containing bacon, and tuna salad were also available. I found that all of the foods I chose were of excellent quality.
According to the information on a flyer we picked up, the menu does not change much, with only a few items having limited availability. Unless you really like salads, you might get bored with the menu fairly quickly.
I would return again to this restaurant, but probably not very often.
