We have just returned from Alpharetta, Ga to celebrate my daughter's 10th birthday with the American Girl Experience, hence our stay at this hotel. We had the double girl "American Girl" room complete with pink duvets, doll beds, pink trashcans, robes for the girls and their dolls, etc. There were plus sides to our stay, as well as a few downsides. First the PROS: Great location, not far from the American Girl store at Northpoint Mall. Indoor and outdoor pool were nice but BOTH pools had extremely COLD water, and this in early August! Surprised!; the breakfast buffet which came as a part of the package deal was very good with an ample variety of food. Probably our biggest rave for this stay was the breakfast buffet this morning. Now, for the downsides. We had to get a room with 2 beds and thought they were queen sized. They are Double Beds, which was terribly uncomfortable. I don't see any reason why they could not replace all their double beds with queens. There is enough space in the rooms to accommodate. Also, it was not until we turned the lights off to go to sleep that we realized the only pillows on the beds were the big square euro pillows, which are really used as shams for decoration. Very hard and cumbersome to fit under your head for sleeping. Who sleeps on Euro pillows? Mine are strictly for decoration. We called the front desk to request some regular, standard-sized hotel pillows and they brought them right up. The other negative was an ant problem around both pools. We spent about an hour outside first until the mosquitos ran us into the indoor pool area, and we assumed the indoor pool would be heated since the outdoor pool was freezing. Both pools had ants crawling all over the pool furniture. From tiny ants all over the chaise lounges to big giant army ants crawling around my husband's feet. Not fun!
Overall, it was a good stay. The hotel was clean. Elevators are lightning fast. We were on the 4th floor. They definitely have their act together with the whole pomp and circumstance surrounding the American Girl experience. My girls LOVED it! Really good customer service from the front desk to the housekeeping dept to the restaurant staff. Worth the money. We will return if they upsize to queen beds. And all beds should have regular standard-sized pillows to sleep on behind the Euro pillows.
Also, there is not clear signage outfront telling you wear to turn into the property. We missed the only entrance on the first time and what we thought was the entrance to the Marriott property turned out to be an interstate on-ramp. Could be clearer signage where to turn in.
