“Great mall location - rooms could be cleaner”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2009

Great location if you want to stay by the mall and only 15 minutes to Dolphin/Marlins stadium. Found the rooms to be a little dirty for Marriott standards. Breakfast and happy hour food was typical. Fitness center was well equipped with free weights and cardio but no H2O station. Overall not a bad stay but the #2 rating on TA I expected more.

I stayed at the Residence Inn, Aventura while my husband was in the Aventura hospital for 7 days. (This was after getting air lifted from Bonaire during our vacation.) The EMT in the ambulance suggested it over the Hampton Inn next to the hospital ( due to safety of the location) The hotel exceeded my expectations. It had a full fridge and even a dishwasher and a 2 burner stove. The room was so comfy and much nicer than I really needed. I enjoyed the large breakfast buffet each morning. I was able to use one of the 2 free computers to email update our friends and family in California. The entire area felt very safe for a woman that was staying alone. I quickly discovered the local bus system and how to get to the hospital on a 1/2 hour walk. The mall that was right next door was the largest I had ever seen. This lovely place helped make a difficult situation very comfortable for me.

Stayed here for 4 nights. We were in the area to see family members. The hotel was in a good location for our visiting and also for shopping, dining, and highway access. We had a 1-bedroom suite- it was not a lot of space, but we appreciated having the door between the two rooms. The room was quiet. The breakfast area downstairs was a pleasant place to sit with a cup of coffee, particularly in the earlier hours, before it got too crowded, and, for a free hotel breakfast, the food wasn't bad. We were in the hotel mainly to sleep, shower, and eat breakast, and it worked just fine for those purposes. The high speed internet was not always reliable, but this wasn't too big of a deal for us. Housekeeping did a great job. I'd definitely stay here again.

Our party of 5 was at this Residence Inn for 2 nights. 2 bedroom/2bath suite with good privacy. Full kitchen including dishwasher. Ice machine in our refrigerator was broken. Everything was clean. Furniture was a little tired, but OK. Bathrooms were fine with acceptable water pressure/temperature. The mattress on the pullout sofa was very uncomfortable. Good location in Aventura...close to many restuarants/shops. We ate at Mo's Deli and Pilar (both every good). Standard free breakfast was fine. Room cleaning was a little slow...we were not done by 2:30pm...but it was finished by 3:30. Outdoor pool was small, but OK. Exercise room was nice. Free parking was plentiful. Not a resort...but perfectly fine for business/etc. At $330/night, I thought it was overpriced...but I could not find anything that was in the same ballpark in terms of suite size and amenties.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2009

Stayed here for a week back in December. While this is not as nice as some of the newer Residence Inns, it wasn't a bad place at all. There were signs around the hotel that seemed to indicate that some sort or renovation or update may be coming.

PROS:
- Location is great. Nicely situated between Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Adjacent to the Aventura Mall, lots of dining options and shopping too, if that's your thing. Traffic on Biscayne and Ives Dairy getting to I-95 in the AM can be a bit slow but that's Miami for you. Beaches also close by.
- Very clean property. The lobby area and breakfast area were especially well kept. This is standard for Marriott.
- Housekeeping service was prompt and thorough. Room was always clean when I would return in the evening. Housekeepers did a good job of replenishing toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap) daily.
- Food offerings. Free breakfast in the morning, as well as light snacks/drinks/desserts in the evenings. This is standard Residence Inn, but still a nice touch.
- Friendly and helpful staff.

CONS:
- Rooms seemed a little on the small side compared to some other Residence Inns. Also, while neat and clean, the rooms seemed a bit outdated. Maybe this is because I've recently stayed at some of the newer Residence Inn properties. Hopefully this place will renovate their rooms soon (and signs seemed to indicate this may be the case).
- In room TVs very outdated. Time to get into the 2000s and get flat panel TVs.

I would stay here again if in South Florida and I needed to be centrally located for both Dade and Broward counties. Nice staff and plenty of dining options close by, as well as a Publix grocery store.

We stayed at the Residence Inn Saturday Night Dec 6 for a family wedding. Our room was clean. It was also small, extremely smelly, oppresive, and had very old furniture. The pool area is small and already shady when we got there so it was not a nice place to sit. Some of the desk staff did not understand my English and did not address our complaint about our room. The hotel was filled with noisy students which made short work of the free breakfast. We regularly stay at Marriott properties, this was the worst of the hotels. I read the other reviews and wonder if we stayed at the same hotel. We found the hotel extremely expensive for the services provided. There are signs around about the upcoming renovations. Don't go until those renovations are completed.

We did a precruise stay here using Marriott points. It is located about halfway between Ft Lauderdale and Miami, about 12 miles from the Ft Lauderdale airport. We had a one bedroom suite and it had a mini kitchen complete with a dishwasher. They have a pool and a hottub and a complete breakfast. It is located by the Aventura mall and many grocery and liquor stores. Highly recommended and if you like seafood try the Rustic Inn in Ft Lauderdale. The staff was friendly and we were able to do an early checkin after a redeye flight.

  • Liked — Location and that it was newly remodeled and the breakfast
  • Disliked — I noticed they charge $75 non-refundable fee for a pet. Kind of a rip off.
