“A special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

We found this looking through the Internet. Was slightly cheaper than other B&Bs but thought we would give it a try. On arrival we met the owner Sandy who couldn't have been more friendly. She offered us drinks and home made cake and made us feel most welcome.
We booked one of the rooms upstairs which were light and airy with an excellent much needed air conditioning system.
Sandy really maakes this place and offered us loads of recommendations of places to visit and eat in the local area. Her late husbands art work decorates the walls around the inn which added a special touch.

Just spent a wonderful night at Witherspoon Inn. Down for vacation at St George Island and was not able to get on the island because of Tropical Storm Debby storm damage. So glad to have found this little gem. Very nice and tidy. Enjoyed all the owner's deceased husband 's art. The owner, Sandy, was a delight! Our 11 year old enjoyed the stay here, we loved hearing the history of the house and the town. Very comfortable, little kitchen is stocked with homemade goodies, coffee and various refreshments..no tv but there is Internet. There are so many things to see in the little town who needs tv! Would love to come back and visit the Inn and Sandy! Best to you, Sandy!

The inn was quiet and peaceful. Price was good. Only thing that might have been nice would have been a tv. But overall pleasurable. Clean, good size rooms.

This was the first time we have ever even considered an inn style place over a hotel. I was very skeptical on staying in a bed and breakfast because I didnt want to feel like we were in the way or even being there would make us feel uncomfortable. Thankfully, this was non of the above. The inn holds 4 rooms and they all have their own bath. We stayed in room #4 on the 2nd floor and it was just simply beautiful and we had a beautiful balcony. The rooms were very private and we couldn't ask for anything better. Sandy (the owner) was a huge help. I called her several times on our stay just to ask her what was the best place to eat and shop. The Witherspoon in is about 10-15 minutes from the beautiful island beaches! I loved our visit and I can't wait to come back!

We stayed 2 nights and loved the relaxing atmosphere. The baked goods are a nice addition and there were some interesting (if dated) magazines to read, Sandy is very candid about what is happening to establishments like hers. Sad that places like this are disappearing. Short walk to downtown, museums, historical sites. Owner also gave us good recommendations on where to eat.

Room Tip: go upstairs balcony is great

Stay away. Our bed was terrible. Our room was dusty and was not cleaned. I do not know how this owner has a business license to run this place. I stayed here and tried to move after I saw our room, but there was a 2 night minimum for the weekend. I booked this because of the low price compared to our places, but is is not worth $100 to have a dirty room. Would never stay here again and could not wait to leave. Worst place I ever stayed.

We recently spent a long weekend in Apalachicola and had the pleasure of staying at the Witherspoon. Sandy is knowledgeable and thoughtful, and I can't imagine enjoying a trip more. The upstairs balcony was fantastic.

Room Tip: Stay upstairs!
