“A must stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

The Inn is gorgeous and has a great location. We stayed in the Biltmore which was located in The Veranda house. This is a good choice if you want more privacy and is located just a few steps from the main house. They even provide beach chairs, umbrellas and bikes at no charge. The staff was solicitous of our needs and the entire stay was lovely.

It's possible to spend time at a Florida coast without dealing with traffic and people. The Gulf coast called the "forgotten coast" lies in the panhandle east of Panama City and southwest of Tallahassee where the coast bulges out into the Gulf of Mexico, It's center is Apalachicola' a small historical village.of a few thousand people. But it has an excellent historic (modernized) inn (Coombs House) comprised of several Victorian mansions with period furnishings. A bountiful breakfast is part of its B & B style. The small staff is personable and knowledgeable about the area. They can direct you to the several good restaurants in the center of town. A terrific place to enjoy Florida in the winter without all the people and traffic. Nearby beaches are excellent and we understood that it summers are not as hot as southern Florida.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms in the main house are larger than first floor and traffic noise on the north side...

If you get the chance be sure to take Highway 98 to Apalachicola, Florida and keep on traveling on Highway 98 until it turns into Highway 98 all the way to Mobile, Alabama!.
Coombs stunning outside and inside converted home into B & B. I loved the bedroom, I loved the shower plenty of hot water, I loved the very comfortable bed and I loved the muffins and the incredible coffee. Over all very satisfied!

We headed to Apalachicola from South Florida for our 20th wedding anniversary. Discovered this place through a Groupon and we were so pleased with our stay. Our room was in a cottage next to the mansion, nicely appointed with a sitting room, kitchen, modern bath (with jacuzzi tub!) and gorgeous king bed. The weather was cloudy, cool, and foggy for our entire stay, but having this place as our retreat made the trip! The innkeeper was even kind enough to drive us to and from the airport, which was absolutely above and beyond the call of duty. (We flew in to the tiny airport in town, and due to weather decided to stay an extra day.) The entire staff is very friendly and laid-back, and the weekend "wine hour" is a great way to meet and socialize with the other guests. Thank you Coombs House Inn for making our anniversary special. If we ever find our way back to the area, we will undoubtedly stay here again.

Room Tip: We understand the hotel is also dog-friendly...in fact, the entire town is very dog-friendly. A gre...

We chose to visit this area because of the oysters, and love to stay at bed and breakfasts when we travel. This was a wonderful b&b with a great history. We were very satisfied with our stay and really liked Audra, the hard working lady who prepared and served breakfast each day. Coffee was really good! The only issue we had was that they were extremely busy with phone calls and check ins; we had little attention at our check in. Also, coffee and cookies were in short supply in the afternoon. Other than that, it was a great stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Tupelo room. It was on the 2nd floor and very quiet.

We used a discount coupon to try out the Coombs House Inn. Based on the reviews, we felt it would be a nice enjoyable mini-vacation. We arrived later in the evening and were checked in very quickly. The rooms are furnished nicely and the structure is an old house that was converted to a B&B. In fact, several houses were and this is a complex of 3 buildings and several out buildings to support large events. They also have a house on St. George Island than can be rented by a larger group/family. Our room was excellent but not on par with some of the other B&Bs we have stayed in Georgia and Tennessee. This is rated as the best in the area so not sure what the other are like. As for the breakfast, well that needs a bit of help. We visited during the week (not on the weekend when the rooms cost more) so maybe we should expect something less. Our breakfast was a cold biscuit with moderately warm sausage and eggs on it and a cup of fruit. In all fairness, though, they did have cold cereal, cold bagels, and yogurt. The coffee and tea were good. One other problem is that the heating and air conditioning are controlled someplace else so our room was a bit chilly during the day. I probably should have rated it less but tried to be fair given the location and the interesting ambience of the town and this property. We did have some problems with the manager and some of her comments but we tend to not dwell on those items while on vacation. So, it you want a old fashioned B&B with uneven floors and lots of atmosphere, this is the place for you. If not, try something else.
