“A pleasant interlude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

I was a solo travelled staying in the her on room, which was a good size with a wonderfully comfortable bed. It wax in a very clean condition. I loved the access to the balcony through my own door.

I would recommend this room for solo and duo travelers.

Great staff made us feel very welcome and all in all a beautiful property, however the Hemingway room (queen bed with jaccuzzi tub) needs a little plumbing work. The shower drain didn't work and almost overflowed and the toilet didn't flush properly. Bed was very comfortable and spa tub was great. The one thing that creeped me out the most was that in the morning when I went to make coffee, the in-room coffee pot hadn't been emptied or cleaned in a long while (still half full of moldy coffee). The location is great - very close to the beautiful beaches on St. George Island!

4th stay at Coomb's. Room was nice and clean. Staff courteousness was uneven. Breakfast was acceptable, but much better on prior visits. The mixed fruit was not fresh. The mattress in room 11 did not give either of us an acceptable night sleep, and any "motion" in the bed resulted in noise that surely was transmitted throughout the villa. This is a huge issue.
Two of three prior stays were in Tupelo Room, which had a very nice bed.

Room Tip: Try Papa Joe's for oysters and fish. That place seems to be the choice of locals. Another place...

On a positive note, the Coombs House is a beautifully restored old home with lots of character and old world charm! Given that it was a "Select Registry Distinguished Inn" and part of the "Diamond Collection" of BedandBreakfast.com, we looked forward to our stay here on our way home from the Florida panhandle. However, the truth is that we were extremely disappointed in the condition of our room and the unfriendly staff, and we left after only one night here. To put it mildly, housekeeping is obviously an issue at the Coombs House. Our room was in desperate need of a DEEP cleaning. Everything was covered in dust. The rugs in the bedroom and bathroom were extremely dirty. And my husband actually found fruit pieces from someone's previous breakfast under the bed while looking to plug in his phone! The towels were stained and starting to fray around the edges. The linens were not of the quality you would expect to find at an establishment billed as a "luxury inn", and the bed was horribly uncomfortable. The staff was marginally friendly up until they had our credit card, and breakfast was a re-heated quiche. This was all disappointing - with the right touches this could be a very special inn! We've stayed in lots of B & B's, and our advice with regard to Coombs House would be to keep on driving...

We had a very nice 3 nights at the Coombs Inn, September 3-6. Very good breakfast. The wine hour on Saturday night was very nice. Cookies and tea/coffee every afternoon between 3 & 5 was a nice touch. We stayed in the main house as that's where the breakfast was served as I would not want to walk from the other two houses, but it's only a short walk. Destinee works really hard and long hours. They had a full house on this holiday weekend and the guest kept her hoping that Saturday morning for breakfast. She did a good job.

Overall, this was a fine place to stay and a good value. We stayed in the Sandpiper Room. It was bigger than it seemed in the picture, and there was a door directly out to the shared veranda, which was nice. The bed was very comfortable, and it was pretty private (up on the second floor back in a corner). Downsides to the room were only that it was FREEZING (although this was nice at night with the thick covers), it was a little dark, and it needed a deep cleaning. It was clean on the surface (bathroom, linens, etc) but it was obviously overdue for something more thorough (dust on the blinds/fans, slight molding on the shower curtain/easily visible dirt on the carpet under furniture). As others have mentioned, the location is great, the bikes were fun to use, and we enjoyed the cookies in the evenings and the wine on Fri/Sat nights. The staff were pleasant, but not particularly welcoming or friendly. Breakfasts were ok. The home itself is beautiful. It wasn't the nicest B&B we've ever stayed at, but a great value for the price. We would stay again.

We have stayed in lots of B&Bs over the years. This is one the best. The room was immaculate, the breakfast very good and filling. The service exceptional. We plan to return here again.

Room Tip: Our preference is for king neds. We stayed in the Magnolia Room which was beautiful but with a Quee...
