“Relaxing and Romantic Hide Away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

Sunrise Garden Resort is a relaxing and romantic hide away in the mist of a congested tourist area. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful retreat away from the masses of other tourist then this is the place for you. It is located at the north end of Anna Maria, between the beach and the bay, in a quiet neighborhood. This beautiful little 16 suite hotel is surrounded with lush tropical gardens. Each unit has it's own private outdoor patio space complete with tropical vegetation, birds, & garden art. There is a lovely swimming pool also surrounded with gardens & tiki huts. Spence, the owner, is the perfect host. He makes it a priority to greet each guest personally in order to make you feel welcome, and he assures you he will see to every request. The resort is a short walk to the City Pier, several great restaurants, boutique shops, a little market, ice cream shop, the beautiful gulf beach and the bay. There is a trolley stop right behind the resort. The island trolley provides free transportation all over the island. If you sit outside in the evening, at 6:00pm, you will hear a 15 minute concert by the bells of one of the island churches. My husband and I stayed at this resort several times years ago when it was called Siam Gardens and it was owned by Kent and Po. We fell in love with the place. We were so upset when the resort was sold to a developer who allowed it to fall into dis-repair. Then we discovered that the place had been purchased again. We were delighted to find that Spence and his wife are working diligently to bring the resort back to it's original splendor. The landscaper has done a fantastic job with the gardens. I will note that the units are still being updated. Interior items are slowly being replaced. Some of the furniture and bedding show wear; however, the amenities such as flat screen TV's in living room and bedroom, appliances, kitchen items, free long distance phone, and free Wi-Fi are all great. Ladies you will enjoy plush towels, top quality organic soaps, shampoo and conditioners, quality tissues and toilet paper in the bathrooms. Beautiful tile in our bath with a double shower. Large up-graded pedestal sink and fixtures. A very pleasant surprise indeed! We would highly recommend this resort under Spence's management. He does bend over backwards to make your vacation a special one.

The resort is nice and I liked it. They are right by shopping and restaurants. Spence is great in getting you in the right direction for anything you want. The pool was good a little small for my liking but it worked. I wish they would have been a little closer to the beach (the gulf) it took quite a bit to get our stuff there (the first time) we finally had to drive it was over ½ mile. The bed was a good size just a bit to stiff for my liking maybe I am to picky loved the pillows. The room was nicely decorated and comfy. If we do it again we will definitely get a place closer to the beach. Keep up the good work.

Ditto on all the other positive reviews - convenient (although not on the beach) to beach, restaurants, shops and pier. Very clean, updated and overall tropical feel. The only small inconvenience was wi-fi - which was not strong so basically had to sit at office to get a very low signal. But we weren't there for the internet but for the charm of Anna Maria ~ which we felt. Those not familiar with Anna Maria - there are thankfully no chain hotels, no high rise neon glitz...so places like Sunrise are the only and best selection. Thank you forefathers to have kept Anna Maria - old Florida with modern comforts.

Room Tip: one story building rooms seemed more private/cozy (opposed to the 2 story building rooms)

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and are very thankful for the review you wrote. I agree with you: Anna Maria has a certain charm that you simply do not see nowadays at other beaches.
I want to note that we were having an issue with one of the access points for the Wi-Fi on the northwest section of the property. We recently called in the internet provider to investigate what the problem was and they ended up replacing the faulty access point with a new one. Our apologies for any inconvenience during your stay.

My husband and I stayed here right after Tropical Storm Debby, and the resort was wonderful. The owner, Spence, was so nice and helpful. We only stayed for two days so he told us all of the places to eat, to visit, and to tour. We rented a bicycle down the road and rode them everywhere instead of walking, though you really don’t have to walk very far to get anywhere. Our room was very clean and the AC worked well, which was excellent in the heat of end of June. The pool was great, too. It was clean and beautiful. There are several beaches around the resort, some within walking distance, others within driving distance. Bean Point is the best, Spence told us about it and it is beautiful.
Overall, this resort is very relaxing and I highly suggest staying here if you want to relax and get away for a few days.

My sister and I celebrated her 50th birthday. We had such a relaxing visit. Spence was so welcoming and friendly. We could walk to several restaurants. We are looking forward to visiting again. It has definitely given my sister and me a great memory and a "happy place" to look forward to visiting again in the future..

Sunrise Garden Resort is a special place to relax and enjoy the west coast of Florida. We were well taken care of by the staff and the rooms were clean and comfortable. It was refreshing to leave the car at the resort and walk to the beach, restaurants and shops. We will be back!
