“Great food and value, bad attitude of manager”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2010

As year round residents of AMI, we eat at the Rod & Reel a couple of times a month. We find the food to be excellent, good value for the money and have found the wait staff to be friendly and knowledgable. During our last visit, we met the on-site manager for the first time as he was working as host. We found him to be rude and unfriendly. We complained to a couple of workers inside the restaurant, since we wanted to notify a manager. We were told that "you just met Dave, our manager." It is too bad when one person can so negatively impact your dinner.

“Should have trusted trip advisor reviews!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2010

On our first day in Anna Maria Island, this restaurant was recommended by a local describing it as place locals do not want tourists to find....."a two hour wait" it is so popular. After attempting to eat in this restaurant, I came to two conclusions: don't trust the advice of the locals......must be some kind of conspiracy to combat the tourist onslaught and if I had to wait two hours to eat in this establishment, I would have jumped off the very pier this place was perched!
As was suggested, we ordered the grouper sandwich. Meow................it was so fishy after one bite it was theirs for the keeping. I realize that sometimes critters from the ocean can vary in taste but the accompaniments were equally as bad. The french fries were akin to srtips of tater tots, the roll screamed mass production, and even the limp lettuce on the roll had seen better days. Interestingly, a local patron seated next to us shared the same opinion with regard to the sandwich........ must have been a double agent. I will say that our server was very good and even brought a sample of another menu item to try.
In conclusion, trust the reviews on the trip advisor!! Several of the other restaurants recommended were very good.

“good view and good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2010

We went to rod and reel right around 11 for lunch as they were changing there oven over to lunch from breakfast which we had to wait a half an hour which really wasn't really good if you're hungry but when we did get our grouper sandwich it was very good, cheaper than rotton Ralph's, and just as good. A nice and relaxing view while you are eating.

“exactly what you'd expect--and want--in a seafood joint on the end of a pier”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2010

Rod and Reel is great. we discovered it on our first trip to Anna maria and have not been back in while. today we had the fried grouper sandwiches and fried shrimp and they were fantastic, and a great value. I would recommend to anyone. service is nice and the view/atmosphere is great too.

“Shhhhh don't tell anyone about this one”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2010

It’s the best fish house in the region. Fish so fresh we believe they are caught there. Its inexpensive, low key, and has true old style Florida hospitality. Please don’t let anyone know about it. It’s too good to share (but do share the key lime pie).
