“Great "Salty Florida" experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

We loved riding our bikes to the Rod n Reel Pier with the whole family for breakfast. We ate inside upstairs and felt like we were on a boat looking out to sea. The breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced.

“Not up to par as in previous visits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Went to the Rod and Reel on this visit, as usual. Tried to miss the Easter week crowd by going at 2:30pm. Were told by the Hostess that the wait would be at least an hour, so we regrouped and decided to wait, as it was so scenic on the pier. The wait was only 25 minutes, so that was good news. We ordered: the grouper cheeks, which were very good; the wonderful onion rings; the so-so chicken tenders; and the blackened Mahi, which was not very seasoned, nor thoroughly cooked. Have been here many times, but this was the first time I was disappointed in the food, as well as the escalation in the prices. Will try again next time, though!

“Daughter got a fishing hook in her forehead on the pier”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

My family and I visited the Rod & Reel on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013 at approximately 5pm. There were 10 adults and 2 children in our party, and we were seated quickly upstairs. The waitress was attentive, and the kids meals came out quickly. The adults were excited to eat the Grouper and Tripletail. After the kids ate, and before the adult meals came, my wife took our 4yr old daughter to the restroom.

The restroom is located downstairs, around the back of the restaurant - you have to walk along the pier where there were dozens of people fishing. My daughter and wife were standing in line for the restroom, and a fisherman cast his hook into our beautiful 4-yr old's forehead - approximately 2 inches from her eye. It was a freak accident, very scary, and complete pandemonium. We rushed her to the ER (Blake Medical Center) where Doctor Upham, Kymberly and a fantastic nurse practiioner were able to remove the hook - no stitches, a small scar - all in all we were very luckky.

4 adults took our daughter to the ER; we left before the meals came. And the remaining members of our party were forced to pay for our meals. In fact we paid full price for all 12 meals. Even though 4 of us never ate them, and other 6 were too distracted to fully enjoy the meals.

We never received an apology from the restaurant or management. Needless to say we will not be going back to the Rod & Reel. The pier is a dangerous - fisherman are drinking and fishing w/o regard for their surroundings.

“A slice of old Florida”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Rod and Reel Pier offers great views of Tampa Bay emptying into the Gulf of Mexico at Anna Maria's northern tip of the island. Amazing views of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and historic Egmont Key. Staff is friendly, food is good and reasonable. You can watch people fishing, birds and we usually see a dolphin or two up close. Highly recommend breakfast and their Amberjack sandwich was excellent!

“You go for the view, not the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We went here for breakfast on our first morning in Anna Maria Island. The service was good and we were delighted to see a dolphin within minutes of taking our seats, but the food was very average.
