You know the saying ... if life gives you lemons, make lemonade!! The City of Altamonte Springs has made a LOVELY public attraction of what it basically a HUGE retention pond. The Altamonte Mall is on one side; a number of condos, offices, and apartments are on the other side, and a very convenient four lane connector road ties Palm Springs Drive to Montgomery Road dividing the two. The road is a great way to avoid a lot of traffic on SR 436. Leaving all that aside, Cranes Roost Park is hugely attractive. A boardwalk around the pond, which is REALLY big. I see LOTS of people using it for walking and jogging and feeding whatever it is they're feeding with bread. There's an amphitheater, and it's where lots of public celebrations are held, including the big 4th of July celebration. There is only one drawback ... dogs are not welcome. There's food readily available in the mall or in the Renaissance Center. If you're a walker, they are within walking distance. There are no elevators, that I'm aware of, and there ARE stairs. Since I live close by, I drive by this place all the time. There always seem to be lots of folks enjoying it. I can't be sure about wheelchair access; however, considering when it was built, I expect there is. When I was a kid, it was a substandard cow pasture that flooded during the rainy season. It STILL floods; however, the City of Altamonte Springs built it to withstand that ... and Crane's Roost Park and the lovely City are still going strong. Seminole County is a terrific place to live!
