“A Quaint Charming Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

This hotel is very quaint and charming. It has something about it that makes it feel historic while staying there. I stayed in a twin room with high post bed frames. I liked the fact that it had two sinks , one outside the bathroom and one inside. Walking around the hotel was also nice. They had long hallways and beautiful architecture including a a beautiful staircase, indoor open balcony space over a few floors and even a piano in the main area outside the staircase. In the morning there were danish and coffee available by the front desk. In the lobby there is also a nice sitting area including couches and a fireplace. The place is decorated beautifully around the Christmas holiday!

Our daughter competes in the Special Olympics at a hotel near the ice arena in Simsbury so we like to stay nearby each year during the competition. We have stayed here several times before for this purpose.
We stayed overnight March 1, 2014 in room 116 near the restaurant. This particular room had a very pretty king size canopy bed and lovely colonial reproduction furniture. The room was spacious, immaculate, and tastefully decorated. This is a full service hotel, and we enjoyed room service for dinner and breakfast. Both meals were tasty and we STRONGLY recommend the crab cakes and the French onion soup. Service was top-notch. The only (very minor) issues that we had were that the mattress was a bit too soft for our liking, however, the bedding was of extremely high quality so I wouldn't even say that was a huge issue.
The grounds are very beautiful, and if you stay in a room in the back of the building it feels like you are in a mountain lodge. We even saw deer in the back of the property.
Everybody from the people that checked us in and out, to the people that delivered our room service have clearly been well-trained in high quality customer service.
I feel that the price for a Saturday evening was well within reason. We booked directly through the hotel and paid 171 dollars (all taxes included). For room service dinner and breakfast we paid an additional 109 dollars (this included an 18% gratuity and 5 dollar delivery charge for each meal.). For under 300 dollars this turned out to be a lovely, relaxing overnight stay. We travel frequently and stay in hotels and inns of all price ranges. We felt that this gem of a hotel was very well priced for the value we received. We will be back again next year for Special Olympics weekend for sure!

Room Tip: Spend a few dollars more to get a room with a King Size bed. Ask for a room in the back of the buil...

Hugs and Kisses to Jeff and the entire staff at Avon Old Farms Hotel ! My wife and I stayed there for a weekend getaway and really did not want to leave, the food at Seasons restaurant was sensational, the room was charming with a very comfortable bed, almost like sleeping on a cloud, exquisite room service, the staff was professional and friendly. My wife still has a big smile on her face. Unlike your average chain hotels, this is a very special place to stay, I highly recommend it !

Thank you GM Jeff and all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable and for being so welcoming to Ruger our St. Bernard. As always, the room was impeccable and service terrific - we especially appreciate Chris keeping the bar open for us to have a needed refreshment upon our late night arrival! We also appreciated the fireplace in the lobby and the sauna in the exercise room to improve our morale during the frigid storm. The roads and parking lot were completely and timely plowed so we never had to worry about not getting out. The reception staff was particularly gracious in assisting us to change our stay dates because of the storm. Perfect!

I want to take the time to give a special thanks to Jeffery Hoess-Brooks and the staff of the Avon Old Farms Hotel. I have stayed there with my family several times over the past few years, most recently just a few weeks ago, and each stay has been excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful with local event planning and information, the accommodations excellent as always and the restaurant offers a fine selection of food for all age groups. I look forward to our next visit.

This is a great little hotel. My wife and I stayed there one night for a relaxing getaway. We read the reviews to avoid the "anex" which are older rooms and we payed extra to stay in the main hotel. Very nice rooms ,the beds were comfortable and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Even though it is off a main road, it feels secluded. The food in the hotel dinning room was great. Breakfast was exceptional. They had all the basics, but just really good ingredients, very well done. Our waitress "Jill" was one of the best waitresses I have ever had. You get the feeling is not a big chain hotel, but that they want to make you feel at home.

Room Tip: Avoid the Anex

Despite the "Old Farms" name, this is a modern hotel building furnished with colonial reproduction style furniture. Our $200/night room was run-down, suggesting to this architect that it was over due for a renovation. The solid surface sink had several blackened cracks in the bowl; which was unappealing. The tub drain didn't work for either a bath or a shower. The carpet was badly stained. However, the beds were very comfortable with pillow - top mattresses.

Trip Advisor ought to start highlighting hotels like this who are guilty of greenwashing. They have the usual signs asking guests to save the planet by re - using towels and sheets but they are not sincere in their green concern. This room had no recycling bins. It had energy - wasting incandescent light bulbs. If they had provided more blankets, we wouldn't have had to run the heat so high all night long.

The service staff at the hotel seemed good.
