“Not so great”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

The building itself is not bad, but the employees are terrible. Fourty five minutes to deliver our food, fourty five minutes to get the check. Each time we flagged another server down, he rudely said "not my table". Extremely slow serivce in the bar as well.

Avoid the breakfast.. it's luke-warm at best. Probably should have a health inspection.

They also double-booked our convention with another group and threatened us with a steep penalty if we didn't vacate early.

Horrible lighting in the ballroom... if your group needs to take photographs, bring your own lights.

Room Tip: Get a high room and expect to wait a lot for the elevator. Only a quarter of the rooms have a view...

The best thing about this hotel was the staff. They were all very helpful and friendly. We used the free shuttle to and from the airport and decided not to rent a car. We used the lightrail for most our travel, but the hotel offers a free ride within 5 miles of the hotel. It was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was pretty good. The location of the hotel is RIGHT at the freeway entrance... which we didn't need without the car. The lightrail station was about a block or so away, not a long walk, but you have to walk across a couple busy intersections to get there. It takes you to downtown in about 35 to 40 minutes. If you aren't planning your stay around downtown activies then this is a great place to stay. If you will be heading downtown every day, just know it isn't real close. There is a grocery store, and a handful of fast food places within a few minutes walking distance, and the rail routes take you to a mall, movie theater and downtown. The lobby can get busy, there was a college graduation and a convention meeting in the hotel while we were there, but overall, a pretty quiet place otherwise. The bed is a sleep number and I didn't realize that until one night of sleeping on a very soft bed. woke up with a sore back, but then I noticed the control on the nightstand and pumped up my side of the bed and the other 3 nights were good! Cherry Creek State Park is across the street... we walked there, about a mile to the lake, and had a picnic lunch and enjoyed the peace and scenery.

The Red Lion is a business hotel so don't come here for a romantic getaway! It serves mainly as a group meeting hotel and for participants in the federal training programs held in the building next door. The building is old and has been renovated since Red Lion took over but still has a tired and worn feel to it, especially the rooms which are small..with tiny bathrooms.
But the staff are nice and friendly, the shuttle service to the airport is convenient and the shuttle will ferry you to the mall and restaurants within a 5 mile radius.
The hotel is surrounded by highway over and under passes so the location is noisy and not attractive. Get a room as high as possible facing north if possible to avoid the noise from traffic.
Practical hotel that will give you a room for the night without charm

We were attending an event at the hotel. The free buffet breakfast was rather decent and plentiful. The housekeeping could set the bar a bit higher -- some of the cups were less than pristine in the restaurant and the room was OK when we checked in, but one should move the furniture when vacuuming. Rooms were decent, but could use a little refreshing (peeling varnish on the bathroom door made a flaky pile on the floor). Yes, bar service was slow, but everyone we met seemed to be very nice and accommodating. The location is removed from downtown, and from the airport, but access to the Light Rail Station is within walking distance, as is a large grocery store and access to Cherry Creek Park. Overall, an OK place for a quick in and out trip.

Dog poop and urine on the floor outside elevator, continuously had to get rekeyed due to lost magnetism for no reason, required to request cleaning service because we were skipped or forgotten, free breakfast was included however attempts were made to charge service charges and tax on "free" breakfast. The hotel is just old and has been passed on from owner/proprietor a few times and it shows in the beat down look of the hallways and carpeting.

It' location is great if you're doing business or fun in south Denver. It's a long ways to downtown. There is a light rail station close if you would like to use it. I've stayed at this location many times for 15 years. The people have always been friendly. The rooms have always been clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: I used Priceline many times to get this hotel. Choose 3 star Aurora and you'll get this quite o...
