“Nicest staff in Aspen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

It's not the fanciest or nicest hotel in Aspen but I will never stay anywhere else again. The staff is so awesome!! and the hotel had everything we needed including breakfast, free parking, pool, hot tub and a location that can't be beat. I feel like we made new friends in the hotel staff. It feels like old school Aspen.

Last Minute booking by phonecall, friendly and helpful receptionst.
Reception and stay felt like coming home. Nice and friendly people.
Rooms are OK, nice hot shower. Clean.
Nice hot swimmingpool in the middle of the hotel (I did not use it personally).
Would like to spend more time during wintertime.
Switzerland is not very far away if you stay at Mountain Chalet Aspen.

Room Tip: Higher or top floors on the inside. Small terrace per room.

What I love the most about this hotel over the other options in downtown Aspen:
1) reasonable price
2) pet friendly
3) heated swimming pool
4) full hot breakfast with fresh-squeezed orange juice included, who does that?
5) complimentary coffee, cappuccino, hot tea, hot chocolate, or ice water, available around-the-clock in the lobby
6) complimentary cookies, cupcakes, or brownies are put out every afternoon for guests.
7) rooms have refrigerators and safes, a microwave is available in the lobby 24/7
8) family owned and operated, dedicated and friendly employees

I don't know if the breakfast schedule stays the same every week, but hopefully you are staying there on banana pancake morning. They served the best banana pancakes I have ever eaten. I'm not sure if they added cinnamon or nutmeg, but the result was fabulous. The pancakes were part of the complimentary breakfast Saturday morning, that also included bacon and eggs (as well as a long buffet table of continental breakfast items). This breakfast is a big deal. If you aren't familiar with Aspen, you may not know that going out for breakfast is extremely time-consuming and expensive. There are only a few restaurants that serve a full breakfast, and as a result, they are always crowded and slow. Not to mention the hassle of having to get fully dressed, wait on your entire party to get ready, and either drive or walk in the freezing snow during the winter to get there. It's just so nice to be able to get up, throw on something casual, and walk 15 seconds to breakfast.
This visit I had a relatively large room with a nice little balcony. The accommodations are simple, yet comfortable. Keep in mind that this is a 3 star lodge, not a fancy hotel, so don't expect a goose down comforter or 800-thread count sheets. If that's what you want, it's available in Aspen, along with a hefty price tag to go with it. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean and updated. The ONLY minor complaint that I have is that the shampoo and shower gel are the same product. In spite of the fact that one clear bottle is labeled soap and the other conditioning shampoo, they were identical. As a result, the shampoo doesn't lather up, much less condition. Again, this was a minor issue, I greatly appreciated that these items were provided, along with bar soap and lotion.
One other thing to consider is that this lodge is directly across from the bus station. If you are a light sleeper, either pack earplugs or ask for a room away from the front. I hope you enjoy your stay. Oh, please don't tell too many people about this lodge. It's getting very hard to get a reservation ;-)

These are the pluses that this “retro” hotel in the heart of Aspen offers to its guest.
For a town that prides itself on being pretentious the hotel is both accommodating, and relatively inexpensive. The lobby looks like it was last furnished 20 years ago but everything
Was clean and comfortable and in its place. Everyone was friendly and The parking is under the hotel
Making it easy to unload. My room was somewhat small and last furnished
A decade ago but everything was clean and well maintained. The bathroom is small
But with upscale fixtures.. Most importantly the bed was very comfortable and I had a view of
The town sqare and the two side street with Windows being on all three sides of this end room. The TV and WiFi
Worked well and got good reception.
In the morning the breakfast was impressive with fresh squeezed orange juice and
Table seating with wait staff to bring your eggs and pancakes. The guests were very hospitable and
Open to conversation. In addition there is an swimming pool in the center courtyard. In summary nothing luxurious but very enjoyable and comfortable.

Room Tip: I had a third story room that was somewhat isolated from the street noise.

The hotel is located in the heart of Aspen. Ideal location. The service is great and staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is limited by the limitations of its physical plant. It is absurd to have a parking garage that doesn't have enough spaces for all of your guests. The room itself is also limited - There is a lack of convenient electric outlets to charge iPhones, iPads, laptops, etc. Nevertheless, the next time i return to Aspen, this is the place i would stay.

We came to Aspen for the Aspen Summer Music Festival, and this hotel was perfect for our purpose. It is downtown, across the street from a park, which is next door to the central bus station from which the free shuttle busses to many of the music venues depart. The hotel offers an excellent breakfast. The room had lots of hangers and storage space, and the underground garage was easily accessible, well-lighted, and secure. The lobby staff was very helpful, explaining how the busses work and the general direction of the music venues from the hotel. If we return to Aspen, we will be happy to stay here again.

Room Tip: Indicate whether you want a balcony or not.

The Swedish décor made this family run hotel special and unique. The open air layout was a breath of fresh air - literally.

The food and amenities were excellent! The breakfast included the best fresh squeezed orange juice, fruits and healthy items along with freshly made omelets and the works. All served in a home style/family environment.

The staff went out of their way to help us in some unique situations. The room was clean and updated. The pricing very affordable.

The hotel itself is smack dab in the middle of everything you might need to walk to:
restaurants, shopping, ski lifts, buses - it has it all.
