“I cannot fault this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2011

The Limelight is perhaps one of my favourite ski hotels in the US – I cannot fault anything about it. It is located just by the park where all the ski buses meet, so about 7 mins walk in ski boots from the Silver Queen gondola and 5 mins walk from the restaurants/ shops etc.

The rooms are really spacious and have a small kitchenette (coffeemaker, fridge, microwave) which is ideal for jet lag munchies/ morning cup of coffee and a good sized bathroom.

The lobby/ bar area apparently used to be fairly redundant but now they have daily live music for après which is popular with locals and guests and also now serve pizza in the evening, which is really tasty and perfect for the first night when you arrive and if you can’t be bothered to venture out in the evening. Breakfast is also superb with a wide choice of continental fare – freshly baked muffins/ pastries etc.

The front desk staff are all really helpful and will do everything they can to help.

A great new addition at the Limelight is the new “Insider Tracks” which is a complimentary ski/ride guide service especially and only for Limelight guests. It is in partnership with Aspen/ Snowmass ski school and is offered on Mondays and Fridays. They will visit a different mountain each time. Space is limited so guests can either sign up in advance of their stay or upon check in.

Locals are also raving about the Limelight which is always a good sign. I cannot recommend this property highly enough!

Enjoyed a recent stay at the Limelight, with a few notes for everyone:
- Used a special (stay 2 nights get 1 free) which made the price more reasonable
- The hotel can give you a ride to Snowmass but not to Aspen Highlands. They may be able to take you if a shuttle is available, but don't count on it - it usually is picking people up from the airport. We had to take the public bus (not a big deal - bus stop just a block away).
- Limelight is part of the Aspen Co. that owns the mountain, so you get some benefits, such as free ski transfers between hills (didn't matter to us since we rented skis from Four Mountain Sports, also owned by Aspen Co. You only save a few bucks a day if purchasing ski passes in advance, but if you rent it does pay to book equipment in advance (over $10/day!)
- Fine walking distance to the hill, even in your ski boots. Just across the park from the main bus stop in town (to take to/from Aspen Highlands)
- Service absolutely is not at the level of high-end hotels in Aspen like the Hyatt or St.Regis. Not even close. Everyone is friendly (with the exception of Peter, in his 50s or 60s with glasses, at the front desk, who I fully recommend avoiding if you want good and kind service - was reasonably curt with us and didn't seem to want to help or answer any questions...they should really replace him - not a good representative for the hotel), but there certainly isn't an effort to try to make your stay exceptional.
- If you ski and then fly out the same day, know there is not a shower available to clean up after the day of skiing (having no option, we "showered" in the hot tub and changed our clothes in the laundry room near it). We tried asking a couple times for a room that hadn't been cleaned yet or was still open (it was a weekday) to see if we could use the shower, but the front desk employees (we tried twice) both said no. Asking nicely a bit more, they wouldn't even make the effort to check if there was a room open, so this seems to be hotel policy. Kind of a bummer - usually when on ski trips the hotel will allow use of a room for things like this, or at least have a shower available in their gym or near their spa. Not here. For as much as you pay here a night, there should be something always available.
- Continental breakfast was very good, so no worry about trying to track down food before hitting the slopes.
- No other food available aside from nuts and pizza they are starting to bake for a slot of time in the evening. Lots of great restaurants nearby, however.
- If you are a light sleeper, get a room away from the elevators. There is kind of an "atrium" around the elevator bank with a lot of rooms surrounding it (not like in a normal hotel where only 1 or 2 rooms really have to be concerned), so be sure to ask if you want one away
- Nice bar/lounge area to listen to live music to end the day
- They were supposed to meet us at the airport when our plane arrived (they had our flight info), but weren't anywhere in sight, so we had to call them and wait for them to drive from the hotel to pick us up. Fortunately it is close, but they should have been at the airport already - they just had forgotten about the time (left immediately for the airport when we called).

Overall it is a reasonable place to stay given the cost, so I give it a "very good". If we find a comparably priced hotel with the same amenities next time we will probably try something different, however.

Alimostyet,

Thank you for your feedback on your stay with us. I am very sorry to hear that we were not able to take you to Highlands and that we missed you at the airport. Our shuttle to Highlands is on a first come, first serve basis.

We take pride in serving our customers, but we obviously failed in our efforts to leave that impression with you. I will personally follow up on the comments that you have made.

We did just start to serve pizzas and salads in our lounge, and in the next two months, we will have a much expanded menu. We serve food from 3PM to 10PM daily. I hope that you will come back and see the new additions that we will have.

I would enjoy the opportunity to talk with you more about some additional services that we have at the hotel and to get any further details from your recent experience so that we can continue to improve. My email address is rstettner@limelightlodge.com, or my direct line is 970-925-5802.

Thank you,

Richard Stettner

The Limelight Lodge was very pleasant during my recent stay. As others have noted, the staff is excellent. In the end, it was the people who worked there that caused me to give the hotel a five star rating. We landed in a snowstorm that had us circling the Aspen airport for one hour after an hour delay on the Denver runway. But despite now being two hours late, there were cheerful drivers there waiting with the shuttles, doing their best to get us into our rooms as quickly and efficiently as possible. The hotel itself is quite nice. Not a five star, but very nice and spacious. The facilities are clean and very well kept. The rooms were large and comfortable. The plumbing was slow to deliver hot water and the shower's water temperature was 'variable', starting hot, but getting cooler, then hot again. Strange for a newer building. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens of good quality. Heated floors in the bathroom highly appreciated. The hot tubs were very clean and the water hot. Great for star gazing and/or watching the snowflakes drift down. The breakfast in the lobby is very good with fresh baking and fruit salad each morning. The fitness facility is quite good, but could be larger. Not a lot of room for stretching. Dumbbells up to 40 lbs appreciated. The hotel shuttle out to Snowmass was so much more pleasant than the city bus! The front desk staff was friendly and helpful no matter which employee or what time of the day. Outstanding in all respects.

Actually way to expensive, but great service, great rooms and very good location makes up for most of it. And-there is no sutch thing as a cheap hotel in Aspen, so...

Our family of 4 endured 2 airports and 4 cxld flights due to a big storm. Our 4th flight had just been cxld and I happened to speak with another woman whose flight was also cxld. She and her husband recommended the Limelight and had stayed there the previous week.

We were too tired to do more research than absolutely necessary, so after seeing the many positive reviews, we decided to stay here for the night, and we are so very glad we did.

Peter at the front desk along with Pedro the shuttle driver and the manager ( forgot his name) were incredible. Warm, friendly, and so welcoming which was really nice after our long and stressful day at the airports.

The hotel itself is very modern and brand new (2 years old). Our room was smallish but immaculate and comfortable. It is located in the heart of downtown Aspen which is just gorgeous. Wish we had more time to spend here.

Thank you to all who helped turn a bad day into a great night !! And thank you to the woman and her husband who recommended this hotel to us!!

My husband and I stayed at the Limelight Lodge from 2 til 5 January this year. We were staying in Aspen celebrating our Honeymoon.
Upon arrival at Aspen airport we were met by Ben (he’s very knowledgeable about the area and was happy to provide info on the hotel, ski runs etc) and were taken direct to the Limelight Lodge in their courtesy shuttle bus (one of the benefits included with the daily resort fee of $30). The drive is no more than 10 minutes.
As soon as you walk in to the Lodge you will notice the large comfortable sofas, the log fire on the back wall and the cosy bar area with floor to ceiling windows allowing lots of natural light. To the left is the Reception area – the staff were friendly and professional We had arrived an hour before the official check-in time but one quick call from Reception to the Housekeeping staff allowed us early entry to our room.
Room 315 was on the third floor of the hotel but the décor in the halls still made it appear that you were in an intimate lodge in the mountains. Our room was large, spotlessly clean and very modern – huge kingsize bed, plasma TV on the wall, bathrobes, coffeemaker (with the best coffee I’ve ever tasted!) and a small kitchenette complete with sink, microwave, cutlery and fridge. There is plenty of wardrobe space with large mirrors so you can fully unpack and settle in. The Lodge provided complimentary bottled water and a fruit plate in our room.
The hotel is a short walk to the Silver Queen Gondola at the base of Aspen Mountain. If, like me, you are a non-skier/snowboarder I’d recommend purchasing a return ticket to travel up to the top of the mountain. The views of Aspen town are spectacular on the way up/down. There is a restaurant/bar at the top where you can relax and soak up the atmosphere. The last gondola back to base is at 4pm.
Every day at 8am and 9am the courtesy shuttle takes skiers/snowboarders out to Snowmass Mountain and returns at 3pm and 4pm. Again, this is part of their service.
The outside pool and Jacuzzis were open every day. I’d highly recommend braving the cold and getting in, very relaxing (even when it’s snowing!).
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel. The staff were all exceptionally friendly, the rooms very spacious, clean and of a very high standard, and the location is second to none – its just a short 2 minute walk in to Aspen town.
Although the hotel has 126 rooms we received a very personal service.
We cannot wait to return ..

I would recommend calling in to the small bus terminal on the other side of the park. Beside the free maps and information leaflets I picked up a 20% off ski/snowboard equipment hire coupon and my husband received a very good deal from a local store when I presented this!

Stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas - the place is located right in the middle of Aspen, making it an easy walk to the skiing and any of the restaurants. The accommodation was well presented, but it just felt a bit functional, rather than having any real character or cosyness (is that a word?....)
That said, the service was excellent, and we particularly liked the transfer service to the other mountains - we basically got a free taxi service to Aspen Highlands two days in a row which was great
You probably won't have any issues with this hotel, but I suspect there are more spectacular places for your money in Aspen - we also stayed at the Viceroy Snowmass on our trip, and that was streets ahead...
