“Central location and quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

My wife, daughter, her dog, and I spent a long Fourth of July weekend at the Limelight, from Wednesday to Sunday. It was my first visit to Aspen (very impressed overall). The hotel is across the street from a large park, and a block away from the central downtown Aspen area (including a "pedestrian mall" area). Rather than pay an expensive valet fee for parking at the hotel, we got a city parking pass for $5 and parked on the nearby streets ("A zone" parking).

Our room was nice and very spacious. The bathroom had double sink vanities. The free Wi-Fi worked without problems (use a VPN for privacy, though). The closet was surprisingly roomy with lots of hanger space. There is a small kitchenette area (plates, glasses, sink, refrigerator, etc.). There were plenty of shelves and drawer space. My only complaint is that the room was a little dark. There are no overhead lights. We were in room 235, right over the front entrance to the hotel.

Breakfast was good (and included in the price of the room). The hotel had an expanded continental breakfast. On some days, they served scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. There is a large lounge area. A small band played in the corner of the lounge on the weekend nights.

The gym is small and located in one of the front corners of the hotel. The outdoor pool is in an interior courtyard. There are 2 hot tubs. The heat in the hot tubs counterbalanced the chill in the pool water (brrrr!!!)

The front desk gives your pooch some treats at check-in. You can avoid the hustle and bustle of downtown and take your dog on a walk in the nearby neighborhoods and parks (two within a short distance of the hotel).

The location of the Limelight was excellent. We walked a couple of blocks to the Fourth of July parade (we brought chairs and still found sidewalk space about 30 minutes before the start of the parade). A couple of blocks more takes you to the gondola ride up to the top of Aspen Mountain (for the Saturday afternoon classical concert on the mountain). We were within easy walking distance of many restaurants and shops. I enjoyed jogging in the neighborhoods and seeing all the parents and kids riding their bicycles together. We walked several blocks to the trail along the river and enjoyed a delightful hike in the afternoon. And, of course, we hiked in Maroon Bells. We arrived well before 9 am, and could drive our car to the trailhead (no entrance fee with a military ID). Dogs are welcome on the hike!

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Limelight Hotel. The breakfast was fabulous, and the concierge extremely helpful. The rooms are spotless and nicely equipped.

We did experience some confusion about the parking situation. As it was July 3rd, we had a difficult time finding a parking place. Valet parking would be a very nice addition to an otherwise amazing hotel.

The Limelight Hotel has it all. Just spent 2 nights and enjoyed it immensely. The rooms are large, luxurious, fireplaces, crisp white linens, the best soft towels ever, refrigerator, and a Keurig machine with a nice assortment of coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The rooms are very quiet and we were right next to the elevators. The included breakfast buffet is amazing with lots of food stations. The staff at the reception desk are always smiling and very happy to help with whatever you need. Dogs are allowed and they have doggie beds etc. for our 4-legged best friends. The location is perfect with restaurants and shops right around the corner. They have bikes right outside that you can use - not sure if there is a fee. Stay here - you will love it just like we do.

the terrace rooms on the 3rd floor are an insult - they are not private and they are next to a communal terrace area!
We ended up moving twice!! ( in a 4 night stay!) before we finally got a terrace room on 4th floor. These rooms on 4th floor are great so no complaints there.

Overall the hotel is a nice hotel with good breakfast in morning ( continental and hot stuff as well)
Parking on street is ok when you are staying weekdays - weekends would be alot more busy i expect.

Room Tip: terraces on 4th floor only - stay away from 3rd floor ones

Dear Jawsy 13,
We are so sorry you did not receive the appropriate room upon check-in at The Limelight Hotel!

We are pleased you eventually were placed in the Terrace King you wanted to be in. Our apologies for taking two room moves to get you to the right room for your needs.

I am glad to hear you enjoyed other aspects of your stay, and I do hope you will return to Aspen (and to our 4th floor!) in the future.

All the best,
Richard Stettner, general manager

I like the Limelight. It is very clean, very comfortable and convenient to everything in Aspen. When you first arrive, it is unclear whether there is valet parking or where you should park the car. The options are 1.) Park on street (if you can find parking,) or 2.) Park in the garage. If you park in the garage, you must first go inside and get a transponder to open the garage door. I do wish they had valet parking or at least better directions prior to arrival.

The employees are very friendly, and the bar/restaurant, etc is very clean and they have great live music on various evenings.

The rooms are very clean and welcoming. We stayed in a regular king bed room and I found it perfectly adequate. The housekeeping was efficient and I never felt uncomfortable during this stay. Definitely check it out on your next trip to Aspen.

Room Tip: Make sure that you request a room that is NOT on the first floor by the elevator. Otherwise you are...

The Limelight is centrally located in Aspen and is great in the summer and I assume in the winter for skiing. Customer service is first rate; rooms are large and the breakfast is nice for a hotel freeby. The pool and hot tubs are spacious. The only downside - - 1 star is that you pay a resort fee of 5% and there really is no spa or resort amenities.

There is a nice spot for the bar menu and drinks.

I would definitely recommend this hotel.
