It's obvious that Sky Hotel wants to be "hip" and trendy, but it tries WAY too hard. The whole place has a very unfriendly, intimidating feel, not because of the staff but because of the local Aspen hipsters that hang out there and give you the once-over when you walk by. I went there with my mom on my birthday for a relaxing mountain getaway and will NEVER go back. We went to the bar/lounge to grab a drink while waiting to check in, but they were playing techno music that made the place feel like a swanky martini/cocaine bar in Vegas - not an appropriate atmosphere for afternoon relaxation. The pool area turns into a frat party for rich people, blaring club music in the middle of the day. The hotel welcomes the public into the pool area, so good luck finding a place to sit amongst all the Prada bags and cowboy hats.

The room was the biggest let-down of all. It was nothing but a tiny Best Western caliber room with a bright coat of paint and animal print accessories. It looked like a cheap redecorating job from Trading Spaces. And since it was ski chalet style construction where the door and only window face an open air hallway, you have to keep the curtains shut at all times if you want any privacy. It was like staying in a dark, trendy cave.

The whole experience would have been funny if it had not been so overpriced. Fortunately, the manager understood our disappointment and comped us one of our two nights. If you are looking for a place to see and be seen, Sky Hotel is right up your alley. However, if quiet class is what you want, DO NOT stay at Sky Hotel.

Definitely hip and I'm sure great in ski season. But it feels like a glorified motel - open air entrance to a lot of rooms. Ahhh, the room. Small, tight, confined. The Kimpton touch present, but not very much! A missed wake up call is a great way to start a relationship with a hotel, an No contrition or effort by the staff to ameliorate or mitigate the error.....and we were nearly late for the rehearsal dinner. The lobby breakfast - I couldn't find any food, so let's call it coffee+. Since we stayed also at a 5 star property on the same trip, we know one can do better than Sky but overall, for the two properties, we are still looking for the 'right' lodging experience in Aspen. We've been to tons of western towns, cities, and resorts, and in terms of capturing the spirit of being in the mountains, hip/square/or in between, this property does not hack it. Would stay again, but only 4th choice, prefer not to if almost Anything 4 or 5 star were available.

I was a little confused by the mixed reviews on this property, but I tried it anyway. I thought it was fun and comfortable. Great location. Also, I was especially pleased by the friendliness of the staff. I will return!!

Yes this is a hip hotel with a fun bar, but the beds are uncomfortable and the rooms are way too small!
We wanted to relax so we went outside to the pool area and fun music was playing, we almost forgot how much we hated the room. Then several groups of local people came to the pool area to party. One guy took his shorts off and went into the pool in his underwear. The waitress said as long as you purchase a drink you can use the pool.... We felt as if we were paying good money for our tiny room so that locals can come use the best part of this hotel, the bar/pool area.
We took our dog with us as this is advertised as a pet friendly hotel. Their was no grass around and we ended up walking several blocks to a park.
If you want to experience the fun of this place stay somewhere else and just come use the bar area to relax and have a drink. The Ritz Carlton in Bachelor Gulch was less expensive and really nice!!

Every once in a while I am fortunate enough to endulge in an exquisite hotel that meets more than my expectations! I travel for a living and I have seen most of the world..nothing compares like the warm, cozy exquisite Sky Motel...

Nestled in the heart of downtown Aspen, the Sky Motel offers the variety of amenities to please a wide spectrum of expectations. Every little detail is met... The rooms are cleverly decorated in a shabby chic... where one feels like their own hip decorator designed the room personally with them in mind. From the zebra striped carpeting, wonderful comfy king size beds, to the warm color schemes of yellow, red, white..to a fully stocked mini bar, with extras like cashmir scarves, i-pod holders, even (yes...it may come in handy..) hangover medicine!

One feels as if they have been transported into another time, where they can erase their minds from the daily grind, rest after an active day of hiking, skiing, shopping. hotubbing or whatever...Aspen offers that brought you there!!

I especially love the white blue lights filtering the entrance way at night.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with suggesting local entertainment, and eateries..

I am fortunate to come to Aspen every so often on business and love to see what's happening at the Sky Motel..one warm afternoon there was a beautiful palomino horse out front, waiting patiently for his owner to finish his lunch, another time a group of friendly guests were out by the pool having beers..and they welcomed me to join them.

My job takes me all over the world and I can honestly say The Sky Motel in Aspen is my favorite. It is a treat to stay at the lovely sumptuos Sky Motel!
It is the closest "Hotel to Heaven" I have had the good fortune to stay in!!!
