“Great location, great staff - building is a bit tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

My wife and I went to Aspen and stayed at the Sky Hotel for my birthday, a gift from her, the weather was beautiful, the skiing was great!
We arrived via auto around 7pm, from Denver, and went to check in. We were told that valet parking was $26/day, and that if we parked on the street we would most definitely receive a parking ticket! The room we received was ok, the linens were cleaned and everything was in good shape. We were informed by a very friendly local that all street parking for the weekend was free, a bit of disappointment in the front desk not being informed.
The Sky Hotel was a very nice place to stay: convenient, and clean, just a bit worn for the price.

Room Tip: Breakfast is not inclusive, count on spending close to $20 on the buffet

I just returned from an excellent stay at the Sky Hotel. The staff is incredible. David & the front desk staff were so accommodating! There is a car available to take you to and from the bus station (to the other mountains for ski) as well as to anywhere in town. It seemed to always be available which was great for us! The hotel itself is just what you need in Aspen. It's a perfect location, right next to the Little Nell. The rooms are clean, and were large enough for what I needed. Super comfy bed! The hotel bar scene is super lively apres ski, and the pool and hot tub can be wild. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for families, unless you don't want to swim. The ski rental place is inside the hotel- how much more convenient could that be?! In addition, since it's an Aspen Sports, I was able to leave my skis overnight for free at the Aspen Sports in Snowmass when I decided to ski at Snowmass for 2 days in a row. That was nice! All in all, I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel. This was my second stay and I'll be back next year! Thank you Kimpton and Sky!

Room Tip: Note that some of the rooms have an exterior entrance, and some are interior. Make sure you book ac...

I just recently spent a glorious week at the SKY Hotel in Aspen, Colorado.
Perfectly situated at the base of Little Nell mountain in the beautiful little town of Aspen,
You are literally seconds away from hoping on a gondola to reach the heights of Aspen...actually
I felt as if I were in heaven! The Sky Hotel and their staff were very gracious and bent over backwards to please their guests. The 39 o club is "the" après ski hotspot for guests, all visitors of Aspen as well as the locals! Favorite amenity: freebies in the lounge all day long ranging from hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate and cookies to wine served from 5-7 with aperitifs. A must go to when in the Aspen area!

Room Tip: Ask for a suite on the top floor with a fireplace in the living area overlooking Little Nell Mountai...

We went to Aspen for a girl's trip, aka a bachelorette. There three in our party and we shared one room. We were on the highest floor, 3rd, room 313. The service and extra perks the hotel has are wonderful. It is the best Après ski scene in Aspen and conveniently located.
The staff was very nice, though not willing to necessarily think out of the box for solutions. We had a minor issue whereby we were not told to reserve our departure shuttle and when we went to book, the front desk told us that's not possible as it was full. It was unfortunate since we were told transportation to and from the airport was included in our rate, we had to book a taxi separately. Other than that, the hotel is lovely. It does not get 5 star because as we heard and agree, hotels in Aspen are pricey for their size (room size). And last thing, the bed for me was not comfortable, but the other two girls liked it.

Room Tip: We had room 313, which faced a parking lot and had a partial view of the mountain. The room was very...

Thanks for the review and comments. We are stoked you enjoyed your stay. So sorry for the mis-understanding on the hotel vehicle service to and from the airport. We will definitely work on improving our communication to all of our guests on that. We'll also take a look at the bed you stayed in and make sure there isn't anything structurally wrong. Can't wait for you to return and enjoy the Apres scene again soon.

We are a family of four with two young daughters (4 and 6) and managed to grab the last room at the Sky for a week skiing in Aspen. We arrived on Saturday night and were promptly picked up from the airport by their complimentary house car.

It was Presidents Weekend and after a long flight from the UK the kids were ready for bed - we walked into the skiers equivalent of Spring Break. The place was packed (reception, bar, pool, pavement) with a DJ adding to the trendy apres-ski volume. Our twin room was on the ground floor along from the pool and I did not know whether to blind fold the kids or myself walking past the hot tub. Welcome to the Sky Hotel. If it was not for the kids we would have jumped right in but not the family location I had intended.

However, the apres-ski dies quickly of an evening and by 8-9pm is pretty quiet again (except Saturdays). The location is great - a few steps short of ski-in ski-out (there is a cut through to Apsen mountain) and a short walk to the bus to other areas. However unlike the other 5 stars in Aspen no transfer car to the other mountains.

Breakfast was reasonable for this type of hotel and a good buffet but dinner was not really an option due to volume of people standing but plenty around a short walk in Aspen so not an issue and the house cars would take you anywhere in town. Join their loyalty program before you go and wi-fi is complimentary (we had four devices signed in).

The twin room was big enough for the four of us (as no other option was available) and the ski concierge collected our gear each day and set it out in the morning. I would not describe the hotel as five star (in comparison to say Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons type hotels) but it all worked just as well with the same facilities (safe, wide-screen TV, branded toiletries etc).

Kids loved the pool and hot tub and were provided tiger print robes (as were we) but visits had to be carefully timed to avoid the party crowd as language not appropriate for kids and bikinis not appropriate for dads (bring sunglasses)!

The biggest pro for the Sky was the staff - especially the concierge team who dealt with my complicated and changing requests for my wife's birthday evening amongst other last minute bookings. She came back to flowers and we went to a local restaurant where the Sky hotel had delivered a great birthday cake. They could not get one delivered so the concierge went out herself, bought the cake and delivered it to the restaurant. I asked for popcorn for a movie night and they sent the driver down the street to get some which turned up at our door 20 minutes later nice and hot. I have known many a five star hotel to say " we do not have popcorn, please see our in-room dining" - not the Sky team.

So after an initial assumption that I had got this family venue very wrong - we had a great week and while not cosmetically a 5 star hotel, we did receive 5 star service.

Go before you have kids!

Room Tip: Do not get a ground floor room unless you are there to join the party.

Thank you so much for the detailed review. We're so glad you were able to get a room to stay with us. We apologize for the minor mis-understanding in the nature of our hotel. President's weekend does have a tendency to get a little bit crazy especially when the snow conditions are great and the sun is out. We are all so happy that you enjoyed interacting with our staff. As you acurately mentioned, the cosmetics and physical assets of the building may not be classic 5-star, our staff is the best team in Aspen to take care of our guests. We would love to have you come stay with us again with or without the kids. Give us a call and we can definitely help with whatever arrangements you need.

My wife and I stayed for the first time in Aspen. As a retired hotelier we would say location ,location, location...could not have been better next to Little Nell. All in all a fun, friendly and quality experience. Staff casual ,helpfull .Rooms/common areas comfortable and upbeat in decor and ambiance.Outdoor pool and whirlpool areas could not be in a better outside setting at the foot of Aspen Highlands..What would beat a complimentary cadillac chaufered ride to and from your restaurant of choice.! Thanks for allowing us to bring our pet....she loved it.

We are so glad you were able to come stay with us and enjoyed your stay. It was a pleasure having you and we can't wait to make it out to see your lodge. I'm sure you are aware of it, but I think you meant to say we are at the base of Aspen Mountain and not at Aspen Highlands... Hope to see you again soon.

Staff have a chip on their shoulder. Rooms tiny. I lick of paint covers the old motel style but not the original bathroom vanity. Great location at the bottom of Ajax. Über trendy bar. But cheer up the staff, provide a shuttle to ski lifts like all the other nice hotels. We were lucky enough to have the limelight hotel, where my sister stayed, shuttle us around.

Thanks for staying with us and giving us some feedback so we can keep getting better. After sharing your comments with our team, we all feel bad that you caught us on bad day and we didn't come across as being cheerful. It is a good reminder for us during a long winter to make sure to put our happy faces back on every day. We hope you'll give us another chance to show you how much fun we can have when you return on your next visit to Aspen.
