“Bland and boring”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

I'll admit: I grew up in the Northeast and have traveled to Italy several times, so I know what good Italian food is supposed to taste like. This place definitely misses the mark. Our group started with salads and mussels, which were all bland and boring. I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli, which was also bland and boring. None of my friends liked their meals either. Even the waitress was bland and boring. With so many good restaurants in Aspen, there's no reason to eat here.

“Excellent food, great atmosphere!!”

Eat in the bar, same food as in the dining room, but less $$. Great pasta, great salmon, done perfectly

“Really disappointed. Expected much better food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

The menu looked interesting online, so we decided to check out L'Hostaria. It's a pretty restaurant. Not stunning, but nice

The appetizers we ordered were the Insalata Portobello, which was just OK, but had so little dressing on it that my wife took some olive oil and pepper to make her own. The Zuppa di Porri, Patate e Tartufo or Tuscan leeks, potato and truffle soup was small and really wasn't very good.

For the entrees we ordered the Chitarrucci all’Amatriciana which was spaghetti, fresh tomato sauce of onion and pancetta, shaved Tuscan pecorino cheese. It was pretty good.

The goat cheese encrusted lamb chops with truffled mashed potatoes and asparagus was plated beautifully. Real eye candy, but the goat cheese really detracted from the dish.

Which brings us to the Branzino or porcini mushroom crusted sea-bass, cherry tomato confit, black olives, leeks, roasted potatoes. My wife, who orders sea bass a lot was convinced that there was no way that the fish served was sea bass. It certainly didn't look or taste like sea bass. Now it was a tasty fish, cooked perfectly, but sea bass - I think not.

So a pretty mediocre, expensive, disappointing meal.

“My favorite Aspen spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Had dinner with a friend there last Friday night. PERFECT in everyway. Great atmosphere and Scotty at the bar is the best in the West. We had a great starter dish of cheese/meat, the gnocci and then lamb. The cocktails were divine and the coffee perfect. Such a great place in so many ways. As a couple of out of town visitors said... "The Gem of Aspen". I couldn't agree more. What a gorgeous spot.

“Good food, fast service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

We had dinner on Saturday night, and the food was very good. I had the gnocchi with wild boar ragu, it was very flavorful, and not heavy. The wines by the glass are reasonably priced, and the house Chianti was lovely.
My only complaint is the noise level. It was almost impossible to talk with the people across the table.
The large trunk of Italian candy by the front door is amazing.
