“Great day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

We are casual bicyclists and didn't want to ride from Glenwood to Aspen, which is an elevation gain of 2,000 feet, so we drove to Aspen with our bikes and started the trail there. The first section of the ride is all downhill and a lot of fun. The trail is well groomed, mostly paved, and not difficult. We rode all 40 miles to our motel in Glenwood. Including a coffee stop in Carbondale, we spent five hours on the trail. I started complaining after 30 miles about how tired I was, but I am out of shape, so I think it would be a breeze for someone in shape. We hopped the bus back to Aspen to pick up the truck ($7 a person).

“Ride a bike on this trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Great trail to walk or bike on. I think biking is the way to go. The creek is beautiful - There are plaques telling about the trail along the way.

“Great way to spend a few hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

I would consider this an easy moderate trail. It is primarily paved or gravel. We rode bikes down to Woody's Tavern and then returned. Total distance was about 16 miles. Overall the scenery was fantastic along the river in the valley. This was my fourth or fifth time over the past 10 years on that trail.

“The Easy Way To See The Roaring Fork Valley”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

From Glennwood Springs though downtown Basalt, Woody Creek, and eventually Aspen, the Rio Grande Trail covers the whole valley. THere are truly beautiful bits, like the part that goes through Aspen, CO. But there are also confusing bits, like the stops and turns in Basalt. But overall it's a wonderful, flat, and very well maintained trail. Be prepared, as the whole length is not paved.

“Scenic, beautiful, easy bike ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Every year, I look forward to biking the Rio Grande Trail to Basalt. For all but a few miles, the path is paved, and there are no difficult climbs on the way. I especially enjoy the path from Woody Creek to Basalt, which has a quiet beauty. After lunch at the Riverside Cafe in Basalt, we can either cycle back to Aspen or take the bus. There is a special bike bus on Saturdays and Sundays.
