Owner description: Once a prosperous silver mining town, the silver disappeared, the people moved out and the ghosts moved in. Twelve empty buildings stand as an eerie reminder of the community that was.

“Very Awesome and Nice Trail Right There”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We wanted to see the ghost town and loved the bonus of a beautiful and serene trail along the creek being right there. The hosts failed to tell us there was a restaurant 1.5 miles which we may have gone to had we known. We only found out about it by others along the trail when we were returning asking us if we had been there. We went in 1.2 miles and it was 1.5 miles away. No worries, we had a beautiful picnic right there by the water...with picnic bench included. This area has a $3 per person fee and is well worth it.

“a touch of the past”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

It drizzled the whole time we were there, but it could not have been nicer! Well preserved structures and informative displays give you a good idea of what it must have been like to live here in it's heyday. Hard to believe they once had 16 bars! Well, maybe not so hard to believe given the harsh winters there. You're not going to be bothered by crowds here, as you might be at the Maroon Bells if you go at the wrong time. Beautiful drive up the valley next to Castle Creek.

“Quiet ghost town, with a great little creek.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Didn't know what to expect, and didn't realize there would be a fee. But we paid, I can see that it would help with the upkeep of the buildings. A beautiful little area, some of the buildings had been restored and others run down. Historic little town, that was once larger than Aspen! Okay, that was long ago, but during the silver rush. Lots of photo's and artifacts to give you an idea on what it was like back in the day of mining, not easy!

“Ghost Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Although the ghosts have obviously left Ashcroft also, it has several building still standing. Located only 11 miles from Aspen, it is nestled in a beautiful area...the scenery alone is worth the drive.

“Go at your pace through a ghost town”

Ashcroft is located along a beautiful creek, with amazing 360 views. You can take your time walking through this little ghost town and imagine what life was like in that era.
