“Fabulous Mountain Getaway!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2008

I just spend an incredibly wonderful and relaxing weekend at The Allenspark Lodge! The Lodge was a cozy warm refuge from the winter cold and the lodge hosts Bill and Juanita, were incredibly kind, friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Fires were blazing in wood burning stoves. Curling up in the large chairs in front of one of the stoves with one of their many books and a nice glass of wine from their bar, was heavenly! Bill and Juanita know the Allenspark area inside out and had great recommendations for activities and restaurants and they served amazing, extensive, and delicious hot breakfasts. They even helped me setup a full body massage with a local massage therapist! The Lodge has some rooms with bathrooms in the room and some rooms where you use a hall bathroom. I walked around the Lodge and found every corner of the Lodge to be incredibly clean. The Allenspark Lodge would be a great destination for travelers from around the world who want a base to explore the mountains or just Colorado natives who want a relaxing weekend getaway - its convenience from Denver makes this very possible.

  • Liked — The character and cleanliness of the lodge & the friendliness of the hosts.
  • Disliked — I could not stay longer!

the communal bathroom was tiny and moldy. Our room was small and felt dirty. We forfeited the 2nd night's fee, and left for better quarters!

We spent three nights here and loved it. The building is all log-style and well kept -- plenty of character and charm. The owners were very friendly. Breakfasts were delicious and creative, with as much as we could eat. There were always free hot drinks and cookies available.
There are plenty of shared bathrooms, but only one has a shower -- we never had a conflict but it's possible. For those who care, there is no TV reception; however there's a big DVD movie library.
We had car trouble our last day, and the owners went out of their way to help us.
Great place, highly recommended.

  • Liked — Friendly owners, charming building, great food
  • Disliked — The shower should be updated.

My wife and I spent a night here recently as first-time B&B'ers and we loved it. The owners are very nice and courteous, the property is very rustic with lots of charm, and the breakfest served to the guests was outstanding (and fun). I recommend Mom's room on the 2nd floor, it has a larger private bath and is right off the porch. We look forward to our next visit!

The lodge is about 20 minutes drive from Estes Park, just far enough from the tourist area, but very close to hiking and climbing trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. Rooms vary in size, ours was small, but had a private bath. Others were larger, some with shared baths. Hosts Juanita and Bill really made us feel like guests in their home. Warm, homemade breakfast was served promptly at 8:00 a.m., family-style. The other guests were friendly and happy to share experiences in the area. No TV, no cell phone service, just incredibly beautiful scenery in a comfortable setting.

I picked the Allenspark Lodge based mostly on the picture on their website, but the inn was so much better than I expected.

The innkeepers are very nice and encourage conversation between the guests, especially at the wonderful family style breakfast. The rooms are very simple, no phones, no TV, no internet, no cell phone service, but that all helps to create a relaxing atmosphere. (There is one telephone with a modem jack for those who just must connect to the Internet.) There is a big living room with wood stove and a big room with games, lots of paperbacks, games and a TV and VCR with lots of tapes. There is no TV broadcase service. The innkeeper said I could take any paperpack with me if I had not finished reading it. If I wanted to I could also leave any book I had purchased during my travels and had finished reading.

The kitchen area is open all day with brewed coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate. Also, any left over breafkast breads and such are left out for people to snack on during the rest of the day.

Breakfast was very good. It's served family-style at 8:00 am, unlike other B&B's that just put out food and allow guests to make their own meals. Family-style works well at the Allenspark Lodge, with a lot of conversation around the table. It might not work as well if the innkeepers were not so outgoing themselves.

The only restaurant in Allenspark is rather expensive and not highly rated by TripAdvisor. the innkeeper recomended the restaurant at Mary's Lake Lodge, about 12 miles away near Estes Park, and that was wonderful.

  • Liked — The overall atmosphere
  • Disliked — lack of cell phone service (A minor issue)

August 27-28th 2006
We were intrigued by the website picture of the outside of this lodge. Could it really look this old? Yes it did but the interior was unique, comfortable and the owners wonderful.
The reason we stay in a B&B is because we like the friendly atmosphere there. These owners made you feel like you were old friends.
Every morning we looked forward to what Juanita would make today and were always pleased.
One day we wanted to go horseback ridding but no wrangler at the stable was available so Juanita took us out. She's quite an accomplished horse person as is her husband. I'm not, to say the least, but we had a great time.
We had a third floor room with a old fashioned tub. When we wanted to take a shower we just went to the second floor and there was an old fashioned shower with lots of towels and all rooms had bathrobes.
On an evening walk we came across two Elk. The next day going toward Estes Park we came acrossed a herd of 25.
There really isn't much of anyplace to eat in Allenspark but Lake Mary is just down the road as is Estes Park with lots of shops and restaurants.
If you like an adventure I think you'd be pleased.
