Eight of us stayed in the largest cabin, slept about 9 but only had one bathroom with a shower. The cabin smelled terrible, and we had to spray fabreeze everywhere. The carpet was stained and torn. The kitchen and shower were old, outdated, and falling apart with stains and scratches on everything. Spider webs in every nook and cranny. Shower and dish rack had mildew and scum. Dust covered everything. Bedding was old, stained, torn and smelled bad. Animals could be heard scratching between the walls. We stayed two nights. Nobody ever came to remove the trash or bring new towels. We left a day early and would never go back. Overall, this place looked like a hunters cabin somebody would use once a year. Shocking someone would rent this place for $250 a night. Once they got our money upfront, they would not refund anything once we told them our concerns.

Room Tip: Cabin by the office was a lot better and better maintained.

Pine Grove cabins are in Allenspark, about 10 miles from Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. They are about 50 yards off Route 7 at the North end of the town. They consist of a number of individual cabins of various sizes set in a woodland. Although the cabins are not that far from Route 7 we did not notice any traffic noise. All the cabins are well-separated from each other which adds nicely to the sense of isolation. Each cabin contains kitchens and bathrooms.

We found the cabins by chance and ended up staying for 4 nights in the smallest cabin. All you need to bring is food and drinK: the cabin had 2 comfortable queen beds, a kitchen with gas cooker, fridge and a reasonable selection of pots, pans, plates, cups and cutlery, and a bathroom with a good hot shower and towels. The cabin had its own gas heater, but no air-con. All the fixtures, fittings and furniture were in good working order and clean, but they were old fashioned and dated! In our view this fit in nicely with the charm of the place.

There is a small patio which we sat out on in the evenings. Here we watched humming birds, rabbits, deer, woodpeckers and the inevitable chipmunks and squirrels going about their business.

Our hosts, June and Bob, were a lovely couple who have been running the place for 25 years. They take cash and cheque, but not credit cards.

While the location is further from Rocky Mountain National Park there is great scenery and walking opportunities nearby including Longs Peak, Estes Cone and Pawney Pass.

Allenspark is a very small place, but within walking distance of the cabins it does have a surprisingly good cafe for breakfasts, good quality coffees (better than Starbucks!) and an internet terminal. Allenspark also has a 5 star restaurant (which was way too expensive for us with entrees from 35 to 140 dollars). Apparently the restaurant also has a good bar, but you might need to dress up a bit or drop June and Bob's name to the owner, because we got turned away in our fleeces and trainers! If you need supplies, you need to drive out of town a few miles or go to Estes Park.

Come here if you don't mind a rustic cabin with an old fashioned touch, and you like the sense of peace and isolation that you may not get in Estes Park. Don't come if you need immediate access to bars, restaurants, shops and TV.
