“The little engine that could”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

We took the full day excursion on the railroad, and had a wonderful trip. The train covers alot of territory, and the scenery in the mountains was superb. pricing was very reasonable, and the staf on the train attentive and knowledgeable. All in all, a good day. If you are in the area, definately hop aboard.

“Great combonation of Steam powered train and western music”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2011

If you enjoy good western music and like steam trains, this is the place to go. I rode my Goldwing motorcycle 1650 miles from Clover SC to Alamosa to ride the train and listen to Michael Martin Murphey on Sept 10. Buying a club car ticket was a great bonus, as the musians all rode in the car. The musians joined together for jam sessions both going to the concert site at Fir and on the return trip. This railroad really makes you feel welcome, the president ED personally thanked the crowd for comming and then lead the musians in the first few songs. Was it worth riding a motorcycle 3350+ miles RT for the train ride and concert, YES! YES! 100% worth it!

“Alamosa to La Veta on the steam train”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2011

We had a great trip. The scenery is wonderful. We got to see wildlife too. Oddly, the hard benches in the open air car cost more than the padded seats in the closed cars. Take your choice. My 70 year old parents took the padded seats. We 45 year olds took the open car. We were happy to be in the open car. I would search carefully for a deal. We just missed an ad in the local paper which was a 2 for 1 deal. We didn't see it and booked at full fare and felt like dupes and suckers for it. This is a long ride and you will be amazed at how tired you will get just riding on a steam train!
