“No hours posted, slow, decent food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

Tacos are just ok and pretty expensive. The pork tacos were kind of fatty and it took FOREVER to get our food.

As others have mentioned, they seem to be closed at odd hours. During lunch time, they might be open or closed. No hours listed outside...kind of when they feel like being opened, they are there?

I didn't think the place looked dirty, in fact it looks cute and inviting with the tables outside and lights and open doors to the place. It's too bad they can't seem to get things together because Avila is in need of some good Mexican food!

“Great shrimp tacos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Spent the day running around just wanted to pick up a quick meal and bring it to the hotel.
We had some shrimp tacos that were full of seasoned shrimp with some great salsa, Went back another afternoon for lunch and tried a Asada Torta and they did that right. Great place to stop by and grab some Mexican food they have the obviouse tacos and burritos but they also have sopes,
chimis, tortas and taquitos.

“Waited almost 45 minutes for it to reopen at 1:30PM for "restocking"”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

I get very few precious days at Avila Beach and when my son said he wanted tacos at the Taco Shack I was all over it.

The disappointment started when we walked in and were told that they were closed to restock for about 20 minutes. Well, there's a new one, but okay, my son wants tacos so we'll wait.

We watch the two working turn away countless customers while they restocked and repeat that sentence over and over. One customer just wanted a drink and they wouldn't budge.

20 minutes turned to 30 minutes and eventually 45 minutes before they would take any orders again.

We finally ordered and within 10 minutes we were eating. Unfortunately, the food wasn't worth the wait especially while swatting flies away.

It's just hard to imagine turning away that many paying customers. Next summer I'll go elsewhere.
