“Most relaxing 2 nights of a 3 week road trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2009

A lovely little hotel in a stunning setting on a lovely beach. We stayed here out of season (late September) and didn't need to book in advance. The first night we cheaped out and didn't go for the sea view, but still got a lovely room and spent a significant part of the evening in a huge hammock on the communal sun terrace a stones throw from the beach. We were only planning on staying 1 night here before heading on to Santa Barbara, but in the morning we decided to make it 2 nights and upgraded ourselves to a room with a jacuzzi. Definitely worth spending that little bit extra! The added bonus that this place also has a library of DVD's and books - oh and they lent us some sun loungers to take down to the beach! Really accommodating place, can't recommend it (and Avila Beach) enough.

I stayed at the Inn at Avila Beach for the first time at the end of August, beginning of September, and I will be back. The Inn isn't a Marriott, a Holiday Inn, or a Four Seasons. It isn't cut from a hotel chain cookie cutter, and it isn't for everyone. But it is a marvalous experience for those who appreciate something non-corporate and down to earth - with spectacular views and access to the beach. It really is like a Mexican beach house, with colorful art, walls, and furniture (especially on the gorgeous rooftop sunporch facing the ocean that lets you really, really relax in broad hammocks, wicker chairs, and daybeds made up with bedding and pillows for an afternoon siesta. Also on the sunporch are barbeques so you can make your own dinner while watching the sun go down. The place doesn't have phones in the room or internet connections, but it does have the best location in town (and right next to Yo Mama's Coffee, too!), a staff that actually thanks you for coming, and a slowed-down version life that I could easily get used to. I needed a break from everything, and this was the best, more restorative getaway I've had in many years.

Avila Beach is a tiny, charming little beach-front town. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, Avila is wonderful. The Inn at Avila Beach is right across the road from the beach with large sliding glass doors that lets you listen to the ocean waves as you drift off to sleep. The large balcony off our room quickly became the center of our stay because of the gorgeous view and the smell and sound of the ocean. Social types will love the top deck of the Inn where visitors have a 360 degree view.

Other travelers have commented that the Inn is a little dated and if you are expecting a 5 Star resort, you may be disappointed in the accommodations. However, if your intent is more a beach front cottage, where you can spill out of bed, pull on casual clothes and be out combing the beach or walking along the pier within a couple of minutes, the Inn at Avila beach will not disappoint. There is no internet access in the rooms and even our mobile phones did not work in Avila, but we quickly gave into the call of the beach and vacation and truly relaxed. The staff at the Inn were friendly and helpful and we loved our down-time in Avila. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

for our first experience to Avila Beach this hotel was a great find especially the roof top deck. We can't wait to come back with our extended families.

The best thing about this place is the location. There were no chairs, other than the kitchen table chairs. Everything in the room was uneven including the fridge. The walls look like a rainbow threw up on them. There was no phone or elevator and the stair rails were flimsy. There were no lights on the stairs at night. The one thing they could do to correct these faults would be to tear it down and start over.

My husband and I visited last summer and came back this summer as we love the ocean front rooms. The main attractions for us are the location, view, the breeze and the sea lions. The room are decorated in shabby sheek , and yes maybe a little shabby. We do notice small repairs that could be made to the rooms and building (and maybe the owners plan to?) but we don't let it ruin our stay. This is not for someone who wants a first class 5 star hotel (there are plenty of those overpriced places to stay along the coast). We find the rooms very comfortable and spacious for two. We love the "little things" like the robes, bottled water, coffe/tea, popcorn and movies. If you want quaint, romantic, close to the ocean, and don't have to get into the car for the weekend- this is the spot! Although families seem to feel comfortable here, throwing their beach towels over the balcony to dry and cooking out on the roof, we have never been disturbed by noise. It seems everyone chooses their quiet little corner of the hotel and embraces the magic of the ocean. The owners have always accomodated our requests with a smile and make us feel welcome to their home. We will continue to come back and have made reservations for out of town family to stay as well!
