“California Aloha”

Inn at Avila Beach

My husband and I spent a few days at this
wonderful and comfortable inn. The staff are very friendly and took us on a tour of the unique features of the inn when we first arrived. These features include a cool roof top deck with inviting seating areas, BBQ's and televisions. My husband and I took advantage of this deck a couple of times during our stay to enjoy the beautiful night and ocean views. We had a nice oceanfront room that had all the amenities of an upscale suite without all the stuffiness and generic quality of a chain hotel. The inn truly felt like home with a genuine love and
"aloha" that can't be manufactured. We look forward to coming back soon.

“Do yourself a favor, stay at this great inn”

Inn at Avila Beach

From the more than reasonable room rate, to the clean sandy beaches, fresh seafood and friendly people, the Inn at Avila Beach and Avila Beach is a vacation spot that no one should miss. I haven't sleep on a more comfy Inn bed in a long time, almost as comfy as home. A refrigerator and microwave keep my milk fresh, warmed my food and made going out to dinner a treat instead of necessity. I couldn't beat walking across to the street to the sandy beaches, complete with lifeguards, or going up to the third floor cabana and swinging in a hammock while the ocean lulled me to sleep. All in all don't miss this place!

Family of four. Two children 10 and 6. We had a great time. We had a one-bedroom suite with kitchenette and 2 sleeper-futons in the living room. Hotel has a big sun deck with great ocean view. Instant access to beach. Easy parking. Nice facilities in lobby. The manager actually added a wireless access point to the hotel's broadband service at the suggestion of a guest while we were there, so now there's free wireless Internet in/around the lobby area for e-diehards. I loved that. Overall, we were very satisified. Very relaxing, a bit rustic, laid-back, family-oriented. Owner is a great guy. We'll be back. My only suggestion: Open the lobby earlier than 8:00 a.m.

“Website Was Deceiving”

We - my husband and I - searched high and low for a hotel in Avila Beach. We love the SLO area, and came across the website for the Inn at Avila Beach. It looked so charming - we were really excited!

When we checked in, the woman was very pleasant and directed us to our room on the third floor. We were told at the time of reservation that there weren't elevators, so taking our luggage up three flights of stairs was anticipated and therefore, not a problem.

What was a problem was the room. It was dark and dingy. We paid extra for the ocean-view "mini suite." Suite!?! It was a room - that's it. The room felt and looked dirty, the bed didn't have a dust ruffle so the bottom mattress - a dirty yellow color - was completely exposed when you pulled the bedspread back. The "sultan bed" was covered in dark, dusty, old pillows. The "ocean view" meant that you had to crawl up onto the sultan bed and peer out the window and around the corner of the hotel.

While the room vaguely resembled the one in the website pictures, it was obviously not the quality of hotel that the website tried to convey. It truly was disappointing. I recognize the fact that the management has tried to put in special touches - fireplace and jacuzzi in-room, but I would suggest replacing soft furnishings such as bedspreads, perhaps new carpeting, etc.

Although the last person to place an unfavorable review of the property was quickly (and a bit unprofessionally) retorted to by the motel's management, I truly share her opinions when it comes to the quality of the room. (However, all staff members were very pleasant to me). I learned my lesson, and will never book a hotel unless it's been rated by Mobile and/or AAA. This one has not, or at least does not list the ratings.

“What was this woman smoking?”

Inn at Avila Beach

Apr 28, 2004

I too have stayed at the Inn at Avilla Beach. In the same room as a matter of fact. I was not looking out of the same glasses as this other guest. While in transition the Inn remains the best deal of the central coast with unsurpassed views. If you like the Meditaranean look with lots of color, unique faux wall finishes and rustic substantial pine furnishings complete with romantic canopy beds this is the place for you. No extra charge for the azure blue expanse of the Pacific ocean and strand of local beach.
