June 27, 2008: We just had a one-week stay at San Luis Bay Inn. We exchanged through RCI and had a great experience. We stayed in a one-bed unit (sleeps 4): kitchen fully stocked, comfortable king mattress, large bathroom, ocean view, uncomfortable queen sleeper in living room. There were washers/dryers on each floor with no wait time. The gym was a good size, but we did not use the tennis/
basketball courts or go golfing. The pool was out of service for 2 days, the games room could use updating/expansion, and it cost 75¢ to play pool. However, we would definitely return to this resort.
Avila Beach is a nice, clean beach with a wide boardwalk. There is a grass area with playground and bar-b-ques. On Friday evenings, there is a Farmer’s Market with food vendors and live music. It is not a crowded beach like Orange and Los Angeles County beaches. Avila Grocery Store is along the boardwalk. San Luis Bay Inn is within 10 minutes driving time to stores in San Luis Obispo. Our family rented some ATVs from BJ’s ATVs and rode the sand dunes at Pismo Beach (Oceano) and went to Mustang Waterslides at Lopez Lake. If you walk down the steps of the northern pier, you will see Sea Lions sunning themselves during the day and starfish along the pillars.
