We stayed in a recently remodeled studio unit which was spacious & clean. The unit had a full kitchen, queen size bed, sofa sleeper and a full kitchen. The bathroom was large with tub shower combo. There was also a built in ironing board in the bathroom. The balcony in the studio is very small with one small side table and two chairs but we were happy just to have the ocean view! The studio does sleep 4 people but the sleeper sofa is extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. As far as closet space, there is no "closet" just a small space in an armoire to hang a couple of things and a couple of drawers. The armoire also houses the TV&DVR player.If you plan on staying more than a couple of days, then i suggest getting at least a one bedroom unit. We really have enjoyed our stays at SLBI. The staff is wonderful the grounds are well taken care of and the area is spectacular. We are looking forward to our next stay!

This was the worst vacation we ever had. We made our reservations almost a year in advance based on the information given us about this establishment. We asked for a two bedroom which stated in the literature had a spa tub. The reason we wanted two bedrooms was because we were going to take our son and daughter-in-law for their anniversary. They weren't able to make it at the last minute, but with the situation as it was, it was probably for the best! Not only did it not have the spa tub, but we were given a handicap room. Although it is nice that the hotel offers that kind of room, it was not one we wished to stay in. The counters where lowered with no cabinets underneath. The shower was accessible for a wheel chair, and the toilet was raised up. This is an ocean front property and the view from our living room couch was a roof! The curtains were attached with Velcro which didn't support the weight of the material very well and I had to climb up on a chair to reattach them. We also had to call and ask for a remote for the TV. We were supposed to stay for a week and we asked to have our room changed as soon as we checked in. We even told them that a one bedroom would be ok. We were told that they probably couldn't move us over the weekend, but the first of the week shouldn't be a problem. We checked with them everyday and finally on Thursday when they called to tell us they would not be able to move us we just gave up and went home. We even had reservations for Hearst Castle on Friday, but we were so unhappy we just cancelled them.

Do not let the bad reviews fool you! This was a great hotel!

We spend a week here in February of 2008 and had a great time. This hotel is RIGHT above the beach... like within walking distance you can walk along the coast.
There is also a lot to do right on resort like: tennis, volleyball, pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, salon, and day spa...

We were 3 21-year old girls traveling by alone and this was a location that we felt very safe at. While we were there they were in the process of renovating the kitchens and we ended up staying in one that had not been redone yet. Even though it was an older kitchen it was in great shaped... and fully stocked!

This is a great location that is near all the hot spots in the San Luis Obispo area!

My wife and I left this resort in disgust after three nights of a seven night timeshare exchange. Its only possible "gold crown" attribute is the admitedly spectacular location. We traded our own gold crown one bedroom and received a "studio" (hotel) unit, with a tiny balcony and a bed so small (a double, not even a queen), that one of us had to sleep on the dirty hide-a-bed. The hide-a-bed had uncomfortable springs and no matress pad -- the staff told us that they used to have pads but "they took up too much room." The telephone keys were sticky, the paint worn, and the door keys had to be inserted many times before working. Because the weather was cold, windy, and cloudy, the hot tub would have been inviting if it had been working, which it wasn't. Although two different desk clerks told us every day for four days that one bed room units were available, that we were first on the "list" to be changed to one, that we could probably do so the following morning, but that only a manager could arrange it -- each morning when we checked back somehow no such rooms were unavailable. The fourth time we were told this we left in disgust, even though we had paid for four more days. We will not return.
