We love the Glenmore Plaza. Despite what some of the negative reviews have to say, it really is a wonderful place to stay. What you have to understand is that it is very old--I believe it dates from the 1890's--and is family-run.

It is not corporate. If you're looking for the antiseptic charmlessness of a Holiday Inn, then the Glenmore Plaza is not for you and neither is any other hotel on the island. The rooms are European-small, there's no elevator, the floors are crooked, and bedding tends to get damp (you're on an island, after all).

That being said, we've found the Glenmore to be clean and quaint with a very helpful staff. Our stays have been quiet and fun, and reasonably priced when compared other hotels on the island. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Try the suites. Their Sundeck Suite--Room 317--sports a jacuzzi tub and a sun deck with a partial vi...

In almost 30 years of traveling, this is, without exaggeration the WORST hotel I have ever had the misfortune to select. Every negative review on this site is 100% accurate. The building can only be described as a slum. My wife and I checked in for a night’s stay in August, for which we paid almost $170.00.. My wife is disabled and, to her dismay, we found out that the building has no elevators (in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act), forcing us to trudge up several flights of rickety stairs. Unbelievably, they put us BOTH into a room that measured 8 x 12. There was just enough space for a small bed and a TV. It was stuffy, uncomfortable and claustrophobic. The carpeting was dirty and both the blanket and bedspread were stained. The room looked NOTHING like the bright, spacious rooms on the hotel’s website. The room overlooked an alleyway, just above a kitchen, and only had a very small window, providing no circulation and making the room hot and stuffy at all times. After just a few hours, we could no longer stand being in the room and, unable to secure alternate accommodations, left the island the same day we got there, having spent only four hours there. I subsequently sent a certified letter to the hotel, which was received and signed for, expressing my dissatisfaction and requesting a refund for the four hours we were there. Hotel management completely ignored my letter and never provided any response. Be warned: if you stay here, you’re either foolish or masochistic.

Room Tip: Look elsewhere

Staff are welcoming and friendly. Hotel is very historic and has that old charm. We would stay here again.

This place is awesome, if you stay at this hotel you have to stay in the Clark gable suite. Honestly, worth the money and the people are cool as can b and the owner is normally here. Trust me, I will get this room every time I come to catalina island.

In summary, I decided to be polite with my words, because it is an old and historic Hotel and it deserves the needed resources to better maintain & keep up the poor condition of this place. Mr Jim Amoroso (CEO) if he cares, should pay close attention to the customer negative reviews, which I agree with most of them. i.e: improved sound proof windows, new or clean bed sheets, new bed mattresses, pillows, siling fan..very dirty.

Room Tip: Is you like the Hotel rate, I would shop around for the same price some where else.

Our room felt dirty, lots of stains on carpet . Stained bed sheets. You can hear everything going on outside. The toilet wouldn't flush. The staff didn't make you feel welcomed. Horrible experience from the moment we got on the shuttle to take us from boat terminal to the hotel.

Room Tip: make sure you dont come to this hotel.

We stayed here and found this place to be too loud. It's down the street from the beach and nearby clubs and you could hear the chatter outside our second story window. The staff was friendly and continental breakfast was decent, however the jacuzzi tub jets didn't work and the window frames were not caulked leaving the glass exposed when trying to open the window. The pros about this place is the shuttle to and from the catalina express and the luggage storage. I was thankful that our room was ready for an early check in. Keep in mind that there is no elevator and you will not receive any help carrying your luggage up the stairs. If you stay here, I would suggest reserving a room that's not close to the street.
