“If you don't mine the best..It's OK”

The hotel is old, furniture at lobby and in the bedrooms should be replace with new ones.
Toilets are old and too small , it is hard to fit on the seat, It got back up several occasions.
Stairs are crooked and door in stairwells are dirty and old.
They forgot to vacuum our bed and leave extra toilet papers , also did not do our bed right.
When we arrive at our room it didn't have any towels. Windows are not double pane and are old, screen window frame was bend. No coffee in the room only in the lobby. Room doesn't have an iron or hair drier, you have to request them at the lobby and once you need to use the hair drier there's no place to put it so it is almost inside the sink. (not a good idea)
Free Internet but only in the lobby.
I complained about all this items and the response was... great, nice people, but...if you do not care about spending 10% or 20% more DO NOT STAY HERE. If you are the kind of person that like to stay in a hotel that looks old and have a nice mattress with nice personnel, be my guest, this is the place for you.
Next time we will stay at The Pavilion or Vista Del Mar.

My son and I went to Catalina Island and we stayed at the Glenmore plaza. There was a shuttle waiting for us when we arrived off of the Ferry and was there to take us to the Ferry when we checked out. The staff greeted us when we came in and took our baggage up to our room without even asking us if we needed help. The hotel was clean and affordable. It was in an excellent location close to everything. The staff was very generous and accomodating to our needs. The staff was always available if we needed anything. We were able to book our tours through the hotel without any hassle. There was a continental breakfast available every morning. It was nice to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to the beach. I definently recommend staying at the Glenmore Plaza Hotel on your trip to Catalina Island. Stay at the suite at the very top of the hotel. It has a beautiful view and a jacuzzi tub. There is a really nice place to sit outside on the patio as well. Really enjoyed our trip and would definently stay at the Glenmore Plaza Hotel again.

The Glenmore Plaza Hotel is the second oldest continuously operating hotel in California. The oldest? The Hotel del Coronado. How 'bout that? We would not have known that without Jim's pleasant conversation Saturday afternoon of our weekend stay. The lobby is indeed a nice place to gather and enjoy visiting with other guests or the hotel staff. And we all had plenty of opportunity to do that over the weekend of March 19 & 20 because the Catalina Express ferries were not operating on Sunday the 20th due to a windy storm. So...Glenmore Plaza rose to the occasion, offering discounted rates for stranded travelers and keeping us updated on the storm situation. With that, most of us seemed to enjoy our extra time on the island. The weather allowed sightseeing on Sunday until late afternoon when the rain fell, and by Monday morning we were out and hiking up Mt Ada before our 11 am ferry back to the mainland.

Historical, nicely appointed lobby with great woodwork and comfortable seating. Our room (# 302) was pleasant and comfortable. Nothing fancy about the room or bath but nothing to object to. Great value for the money. Overall we enjoyed the Catalina experience and this was due in large part to the hotel, the other guests, the staff, and the location, right in the middle of the shop and stroll action and just steps from the water.

Sure, it's historic - one of the older Victorians in Avalon. Sure, it's right smack in the center of town...convenient to everything. But it's the people that make this place. Every single person we dealt with went above and beyond. And everyone we spoke to who had stayed there the same weekend said the same thing.

Starting with the reservation, Jack was helpful, accommodating, and just a pleasure to deal with. We arrived quite early on Saturday morning, about 9:15am, and expected to only be able to leave our bags until the 3pm check-in. Not only was our key already waiting on the front desk, but Jim at the desk was friendly, quick, and volunteered a lot of helpful information for us.

Every time we wandered back to the hotel, we met someone else on staff who was friendly and asked if we needed anything. We ended up taking a late afternoon nap and sleeping too late - we thought - to get dinner anywhere. Jack made a phone call to a nearby establishment and asked if the chef would cook us a late supper...marvelous!

Rooms are a bit on the tiny side - but that's the nature of old, historic properties. The furniture was VERY comfortable, the reception amazing - and we could have (and did!) slept forever on the beds which were so comfortable. Not to mention the lobby couches...where I could have happily curled up all day with a book.

The location is perfect. I stay in Avalon every year - many different hotels over a period of years. This was my first time at the Glenmore Plaza...and this is where we'll stay from now on. We feel like we've found a "family" there.

We spent only one night in this lovely old hotel and I was wishing we could stay longer.
Jack at the desk was the perfect host. He made us feel important and filled us in on the history of the hotel, as well as going out of his way several times times for special requests we had. The bed was comfy and the room was warm and cozy. It had personality, a far cry from boring chain hotel rooms Sure, you have to climb some stairs, the rooms are small and the floors lean this way and that, but hey, it's over 100 years old and you have to be reasonable in your expectations. Adjust your attitude and
enjoy the historic ambiance and beauty of this grand old lady.
We will definitely be returning to the Glenmore Plaza on future visits to Catalina.

The hotel is old - in fact the oldest on the island, but well maintained and clean. Our room was spacious enough with a flat screen tv, jacuzzi tub, coffee pot etc. The bed was comfy and we slept very well. Colleen and both Jims were friendly and helpful. We'll definitely go back.

Cons: No elevators, so we had to literally carry our bags by each step. The so called complimentary breakfast was the WORST! I rarely ever throw away food, but the coffee was nasty and the muffins were so bland and tasteless that I threw them both away immediately. It seemed they put whatever out for us to eat just so they could say they give "complimentary breakfast". I was appauld by the quality of the food...its usually the food you give to birds not humans!
The rooms were also very average, but on the verge of below average. All the amenities they try to lure you in with on the sites are more or less all bad. There were even flys around in the room.

I think my trip would have been better if I had spent $100 more on another hotel.
